every american will tell you that the proper way to celebrate thanksgiving is by stocking on on beer and chips and staying glued to the 3 football games, plus all the pre and post game commentary. anything else is just a watered down version of the holiday.

Ubiquitin. Thats what he had in mind. Anyone can anonymously make claims about everyone and everything without the need to take responsibility for the things they write, or the fear of backlash.

Angry? Amused more like it. Amused (and saddened) at the depths of boredom of some people that they have to dig down really deep to come up with such questions.

Rabbbeinu Tam doesnt accept Rashi, quite often. Doesnt detract from the greatness of either.

25 years ago my Rav was talking about the dangers of the internet. He wasnt talking about the shmutz, thats available at every news stand, the internet just facilitates its access. However, the ability for anyone with access to a keyboard to anonymously shoot off their mouth and bash anyone and everyone, something they would never get up in public and do, or ever sign their real name to. That was and is the single biggest danger of the internet in his opinion.

since this is such an important topic, lets expand it beyond gadol hador. who is the tzadik hador? the manhig hador? posek hador? how bored does someone have to be to even conjure up such a question? I think this is a discussion destined to be closed as someone names a particular Rav and someone disparages him. a whole segment was already disparaged, are we waiting for individual rabbonim too?

The OP asked for the “gadol” hador. I remember in the 80s the boys in camp krasna used to sing “Pupa Rebbe Tzadik Hador – Satmar Rebbe aahh plainer, plainer, plainer tzadik”.

B’H, klal yisroel has always had gedolim. Yiftach bidoro, kishmuel bidoro. the idea that there was a discussion to find THE gadol is foreign to yiddishkeit.

If one claims a religious exemption let them state which religion. If the claim is yiddishkeit let them produce the psak. This is the position of one administrator I know.

Why is the concept “gadol hador” even relevant? do we find the tannoim trying to determine who was the gadol hador? amoroim? did the baalei tosfos ask who was greater the rashbam or his younger brother rabbeinu tam? did it even enter their mind to ask? that this is a topic of conversation is ludicrous .

“The anti-vaxxers are not a bunch of fools, they have well-respected poskim supporting them.”

This may be true. Who are they? Why dont we hear from them during this time? I’m related to a school administrator with unvaccinated kids in the school, and those families claiming religious exemption have not, depsite being asked, produced a letter from a single rav who provided that religious exemption. This is a yeshiva that has a long list of rabbonim telling them to keep unvaccinated children out, for now, and they are willing to work with these families, providing they tell them which rav gave them this religious exemption. it isnt a game, where one magically pulls a “religious exemption” out of a hat. It is legitimate to ask, what religion? presumably you choose our school because you subscribe to our religious beliefs. our religious leaders have told us children should be vaccinated. the school understands that not all rabbonim agree on everything, and like everything else, if your rav says differently, tell us who he is? (in this case, the school knows the shul rav where they daven, and he is a strong advocate of parents vaccinating their children, so the question is, what religious leader, from what religion provided an exemption).

why is this a discussion? is there a mitzvah to appoint a gadol hador? is there a mitzvah or even an inyan to funnel all questions to the gadol hador? is there an inyan that the greatest person in the generation is even the address for all ones questions? the concept of sarei meuah etc…indicates that for the rank and file it is a non issue.

“I do want to just say I highly doubt 50 percent of chareidim in Jerusalem do not vaccinate.”

This statement is attributed to the Ministry of Health. do you suspect they have an agenda on this matter, or that they are simply ignorant of the numbers?

It seems there are FIVE confirmed cases of measles among Israelis who are learning in the Mir in Yerushalyim. They brought in people to provide vaccinations to the bachurim and avreichim who are not vaccinated.

@bk613. “I highly doubt that this is because 50% of charedim are part of the anti-vax movement.”

Do you attribute it to laziness? Stupidity? No access to the vaccine? Why do you think so many are not vaccinated?

Haimy, the statement “They represent a very small percentage of the population” may be true in Tri State area. In other areas, that is not the case.

According to a story on the YWN homepage published 11/5/18 after 12pm, approximately FIFTY PERCENT of charedim in Yerushalayim are not vaccinated. Plenty of people from the Tri State visit Yerushalayim weekly and can easily carry the virus back home. those vaccinated are pretty safe (although the vacine is 95-97% efefctive, so people face a small chance of illness despite vaccination). There is a rather large peopulation of people in our community who are unable to be vaccinated, due to age or illness, and even some who are, due to illness their immunity is weakened. It is not hysteria.

Hospitals in Yerushalyim are now banning unvaccinated people from maternity, pediatric and oncology and ICU.

Most weeks, it goes straight from the porch into paper recycling. this week, we had a need for box filler, so it made it a few feet into the house went into a box, and off to a UPS mailing center.

If we ever buy a hamster or a cat, im sure we would be happy to make use of the paper too. until then , it is just another waste of paper, that shows up on our porch.
