apushatayidParticipant
what did you say? i was on the phone.
apushatayidParticipant“So what’s the problem?”
You are spending too much time around women?
apushatayidParticipantI was not aware that in life (whatever you do) the goal is to work harder than the next person. I always tought it was to put the maximum effort into whatever it is that you do to produce to the best that you possibly can. In shamayim they wont ask you, why werent you the Rambam, they will ask you, why werent you as great as you could have been had you fully utilized all your given talents.
September 6, 2011 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm in reply to: To what do you attribute the rise in the number of shootings in NYC? #806453apushatayidParticipantI wrote it quickly and on my bberry. What I meant to write was “the more lomdush will argue that owning an illegal gun is in of itself a crime”, so by owning the gun, he already commited a crime. forget it, one it has to be explained, it loses its taam.
apushatayidParticipantI’m not sure how it follows that if one should be stringent on one thing during the AY”T, that one should be stringent on another thing, the entire elul. Be that as it may, I’m all for people always trying to grow closer to hashem, and if chalav yisrael for 40 days or all days is how one tries to do so, kul hakavod.
September 6, 2011 11:28 am at 11:28 am in reply to: To what do you attribute the rise in the number of shootings in NYC? #806450apushatayidParticipantThe law should be, anyone who commits a crime with an illegal gun (I know the more lomdush will claim the act of owning the gun is in of itself illegal) should be forced to play russian roulette. If they win, they go to trial as they would now. If they lose, saves us taxpayers a few dollars
apushatayidParticipantIt is hard to get up for an 8am shachris, get to seder by 10am and over the next 12 hours learn 3 full sedarim with breaks for meals and some leg stretching. Bein hazmanim is a much welcome break from a rigourous routine, I would imagine. It is also hard to get up for 6am shacris and shlep to an office, put in an honest days work, shlep back home, help with the homework, especially limudei kodesh and catch a shiur for yourself at 10pm. Depending on the job, there is no “bein hazmanim”. It is also very hard work, to get up at 5am to learn until 6:45, daven, go straight to work, get home at 6pm. Help with the homework and bedtime, learn with your sons, go out to a seder at 10pm and daven maariv at 11 and get home and crawl into bed until 5. No bein hazmanim to look foward to either. It is hardest, I think, to be responsible for the children, meals, laundry and general upkeep of the home often while working outside the home with no bein hazmanim to look foward to either. In fact, bein hazmanim she works overtime with an extra child in the house 🙂
September 6, 2011 5:10 am at 5:10 am in reply to: To what do you attribute the rise in the number of shootings in NYC? #806440apushatayidParticipantThe mets are out of it, footbal season didn’t start yet and with the NBA players locked out they don’t have the summer league to keep them busy.
apushatayidParticipantThe davening kind.
apushatayidParticipantWe used to do this in our house (paper or plastic unless we had guests), until recently. Now we use china all the time.
We used to use china, only when we had company because we wanted the children to understand that the guests (and inviting them) are important. They already got the message that shabbos is chashuv and important with all the preparations beforehand (the cleaning and cooking of special foods).
The kids are older now and have absorbed both messages. Now that they are old enough and big enough that they dont break every piece of china they put their hands on, we use china for all shabbos and yom tov meals.
September 5, 2011 4:29 pm at 4:29 pm in reply to: Who believes the Talking Fish Story from 2003? #805822apushatayidParticipantWhat’s next, a fish sending out text messages about a dream he had about moshiach?
apushatayidParticipantThe reality is that BPT is more correct than people give him credit for.
The examples he gave have to do with ones level of responsibility and maturity, not earning potential.
The average 21 year old girl is and almost always will be more responsible and mature than even a 24 year old guy simply because of what she has done been through and accomplished. Yes, the average bachur might be proficient in the first 14 daf of the standard yeshivishe masechtos, learns with hasmada for most of three sedarim a day and might have a reputation as a lamdan, this does not make him responsible, or mature.
apushatayidParticipantGeshmakke Mentch – according to shteiger, you simply dont exist. You are a lie. a creation of the big, bad shidduch machine that sets up the scum of the earth with the best girls.
September 5, 2011 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808696apushatayidParticipant“Since I have had this psak, have decided to stop going on chat rooms and private messaging women, trying to seduce them to marriage.”
“MichaelC: Did your Rav explain why you can’t?”
After reading his most recent comment, you need a reason WHY he shouldnt have a shadchan set him up? Unless seduce is a poor, unfortunate choice of words, would you want him approaching YOUR daughter? He sounds like the type of guy every father warns their daughter about.
apushatayidParticipantWho poriginated the term “chalav stam”?
R” Moshe was never mattir “chalav stam”, he paskened that the government protocols and regulations satisfied the requirement that we be sure no other milk besides cows milk is in the bottle. R” Moshe paskened on “chalav she’ll companies” in the USA that are subject to these regulations.
September 4, 2011 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm in reply to: Who believes the Talking Fish Story from 2003? #805795apushatayidParticipantWhy not. A talking gecko sold me car insurance.
apushatayidParticipantSam2. Last I heard, kosher phones did not do texting.
apushatayidParticipantOK. So this guy who happens to be a shabbos guest of yours is also scum. How did yo make the leap to this? “It poshut makes me sick, just thinking about it. theres sooo many AMAZING girls and theres no good boys around. All the garbage is being labled good ’cause there is nothing else..” No good boys? All garbage is labeled good? With such sweeping generalizations, I wonder if the problem is with you and not everyone else.
apushatayidParticipanti would assume moshiach would have a kosher phone. if he did, how would he text his arrival?
September 2, 2011 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm in reply to: College Professor Mocking Yiddishkeit/ Torah #805176apushatayidParticipantMik5. surely you have a couple of moslems or catholics in the class, how have they responded? The professor is likely not mocking yiddishkeit in particular, just religion in general.
apushatayidParticipantwhatever the psak. refua shlaima.
apushatayidParticipantWe do it every summer. For 8 weeks.
I have also pushed my wife, many times, to go with friends to a spa for a few days and do whatever it is that women do at these spas. So far she has refused.
September 2, 2011 3:52 pm at 3:52 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808682apushatayidParticipantThis thread is based on a misinterpretation/misrepresentation of the gemara.
September 2, 2011 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808679apushatayidParticipantRav gave malkus for a number of things that both Rashi and tosfos state is because of pritzus (there seems to be a machlokes exactly which instances listed would get makas mardus).
One of the things listed is “hamikadesh blo shiduchi”. Where is dating mentioned? Mikadesh does not mean dating. in fact, dating (or sitting in or bishowing or doing whatever it is you do in your neighborhood) would satisfy the requirement of not marrying someone blo shiduchi.
apushatayidParticipantJust curious. Who originated the text chain? The mekubal?
September 2, 2011 12:58 pm at 12:58 pm in reply to: Mandetory seat belts at the diner table? #804781apushatayidParticipantWe have a policy of voluntary compliance. They can choose to go hungry if they like.
September 2, 2011 12:16 pm at 12:16 pm in reply to: girls!!!! DON"T SELL YOURSELVES CHEAP!!! #805767apushatayidParticipantI’m wondering how the OP made the jump from a guy who may or may not have intentionally messed with her friend to this…. “theres sooo many AMAZING girls and theres no good boys around. All the garbage is being labled good ’cause there is nothing else”
apushatayidParticipant“i just found out that one of my best friends is involved with my brother. they have been texting and talking for quite a while and i dont know what to do.”
How certain are you that the information that you just found out is accurate?
“they dont think i know but i know”
Why do you think they dont know? Maybe they do know, but it doesnt bother them?
“my friend has had some guy problems before and i tried to help her but obviously… “
Guy problems?

apushatayidParticipant“i bought a dish that made a statement”
What did it say?
September 1, 2011 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm in reply to: Life Insurance; A chiyuv, or a lack of Bitachon? #804652apushatayidParticipant“‘Its a Machlokes'”
between who and who?
September 1, 2011 8:06 pm at 8:06 pm in reply to: Life Insurance; A chiyuv, or a lack of Bitachon? #804647apushatayidParticipant“Then why are some pple (rabonim) opposed to it???”
Who are these pple (rabonim)? How, where, when and to whom did they state this opinion?
apushatayidParticipantTo avoid stains
Only eat plain yogurt or vanilla pudding.
Drink Water.
Drink from a bottle with a “sports cap”.
By those “gogurts” that you squirt right into your mouth.
Wear an apron or a smock.
September 1, 2011 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808661apushatayidParticipantClearly you dont understand what he is saying. Speak to your own Rav when you go to shul tonight.
apushatayidParticipant“girls!!!! DON”T SELL YOURSELVES CHEAP!!”
Dont sell yourself for any price.
September 1, 2011 7:50 pm at 7:50 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808657apushatayidParticipantWhy dont you ask Rabbi Tauber your shadchan question?
September 1, 2011 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808651apushatayidParticipantWhy would the girl want to meet the shadchan, wouldnt she want to meet the boy? Unless the girl is interested in marrying the shadchan?
September 1, 2011 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm in reply to: can i date a girl without Shadchan????????/ #808642apushatayidParticipant“can i date a girl without Shadchan????????”
Why would you want to take the shadchan along on the date? Are you dating the shadchan?
apushatayidParticipant“I can’t think of any perfectly off the top of my head, but they are not cases where we say “Oh he’s frum he’s probably doing something Muttar.”
Perhaps not perdectly analogous. Beitza yud zayin amud beis. the din is that if someo0ne is a meizid and does not make an eruv tavshilin, his food is muttar to eat on shabbos. someone who through “harama” (not ribui shiurim) coooked for shabbos without an eruv tavshilin, chazal assured his food. the reason. By a maized, chazal are not worried someone might learn from him that we dont require an eruv tavshilin, an onlooker will chalk it up to “he doesnt listen to chazal as it is”, while a “regular” fellow who does harama, an onlooker might make a mistake and think it is ok to do. (see rashi). So, at least in this din, chazal were concerned a person might say “he’s frum and cooked without an eruv tavshilin, must be muttar”.
apushatayidParticipantI thought harry was the plural form for the word mountains in hebrew.
apushatayidParticipantCome on, fess up, it wasnt the suit, it was your charming smile and personality.

apushatayidParticipant“The OU recinded its hechsher from Starbucks coffee a few months ago.”
They did? Go here and do a company search for starbucks and over 60 products come up certified by the OU.
apushatayidParticipantI dont buy the stuff, however…..
I did find this on Star-K website
http://www.star-k.org/loc/kosher_letter_12297_livingessentials.pdf
Look for the hechsher on the bottle, I guess.
apushatayidParticipantTrue. He has the rhythm of a robot.
apushatayidParticipantVichtig. Can someone translate into english?
apushatayidParticipantwould he by any chance be testing the speed and efficiency of his new algorithm?
apushatayidParticipantSioux City
apushatayidParticipantAvoid all the shailos. Just buy a bottle of 5 hour energy.
