a christian who gives me a merry christmas (and that happens a LOT online!) gets a happy holidays. if they give me guff about not returning the merry christmas i ask them what they are celebrating. if they say the birth of jesus, i launch into a whole explanation of how christmas is pagan (see post above).
while on that subject…heres a random piece of info in case you ever need to bash christian holidays…easter (the day of his supposed resurrection) is also a saxon holiday celebrating the sazon “goddess” of fertility…hence the bunny 😀

as a resolution to this argument: health, yes it is mutar. no question that most poskim agree. however to argue in oomis’s favor mutar does not always mean that you should do it. plain and simple. keeping up this personal argument is pointless
congress doesnt give a wooden nickel about us and neither does the senate. their functions are to serve the people and yet, although EVERY opinion poll is showing that the people dont want the bill…they are still passing it! they care about pandering to obama because the only way he will be reelected is if they can show soem of his “accomplishments” on the campaign trail in 2012

i have an uncle who is a coordiantor for COR he verified that OU has indeed bought WK and is currently working to bring it up to standards
essentially this bill is a waste of the country’s time. the last time we had a deregulation like this was with the mortgages and we all know how THAT turned out. obama has done nothing for a year, and he wanted SOMETHING he could call his own. basically he proposed a bill which was gutted completely. every aspect of the original bill is gone. all thats left is a couple of amendments and the actual entry…thats it! plus if anyone needs proof its bogus…look at how it was pushed through and how much senate protocol was broken in the process!

i will NOT respect the other side…because assur…mutar…whatever it is still wrong, and your argument of hashkafa only started based on the sports. we got that out of the picture. everything i said makes perfect and no one in their right mind would argue on it.

smoking is wrong. period. assur…mutar…its wrong.
the punishment for smoking should be more than just a smile and a “dont do it again”
there is no distinction between a “chashuva” bochur who smokes and a “bum” who smokes they are equally wrong in that regard.
parents have to educate their kids on the evils of smoking and other vices, and constantly emphasize the point.
here are the four basic points that came out of this argument, and further discussion of the matter is pointless and unnecessary.

AJ…i am placing blame on many people…parents…teachers…hanhalla…while at the end of the day there is no way of stopping a bochur bent on smoking, they could do more. i have been around many smokers, and have no inclination to smoke, in fact every time im around a smoker i make sure that person knows how disgusting i think the habit is, and how bad for his health smoking is. parents have to constantly emphasize the evils of smiking and other vices so that their kids never pick up any of those habits. teachers, the same. constant emphasis. hanhalla…SEVERE punishment for smoking, i.e. suspension…lengthy detentions…demotion to a lower shiur…i know this may sound sever but smoking is SUCH a sever problem that it calls for drastic measures. obviously like i said before you cant stop a person who is determined to smoke…but i do think more can be done.
you’re nitpicking…the point is not the actual sports but other forms of physical activity, or some other outlet aside from smoking which im SURE every rosh yeshiva would agree is worse than smoking

first of all…for the 50% that dont its terribel second of all, even smoking short term is damaging…third of all a few here and a few there is what causes addiction…thats how my chavrusa boruch hashem i got him to stop

they dont like being controlled…i see…but they keep 613 commandments…which arent controlling at all, i see the logic. as for the grown up part, that is just childish. thats like going skydiving just because youre 18 to show you can…thats called being immature. plus there is no reason to justify it. its wrong. and about the benefits, you still havent named one benefit to smoking except the idea of it being an outlet which is ridiculous because there are many more beneficial outlets out there.
