☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
bump
October 8, 2014 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm in reply to: stopping with a chavrusa because he smokes. #1035157☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe anti smoking people have just as much of an agenda as the smokers, say just as much gibberish, and twist halacha just as much, in furtherance of their agenda.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf you decide Shechita/Milah is cruel, you still gotta do it.
You’ve also got to adjust your attitude.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHaKatan: Why? If one is of the opinion that living is E”Y is a Chiyuv, why wouldn’t one be obligated to give up their Ruchniyus for it? If taking a Lulav hurts my Ruchniyus, does that give me a P’tur from taking Lulav?
I assume Hakatan is not going with the shittah that it’s chiyuvis. Still, why the harping on the possible negative? Chibas EY is a positive, and should be cultivated.
Using Sam’s example of lulav, say I have a kosher lulav, but can get a nicer one, but I would need to drive for two hours to get it. I would miss my chavrusah or anger my wife who needs help making Yom Tov. Should I get it? Likely not, but still, hiddur mitzvah is an important value, one in which I try to be mechanech my children, even if sometimes there are other priorities.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMazel Tov Little Froggie! ???? ????? ????? ?????? ??????? ?????!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLF: Well, sort of a time machine… http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/-1-years#post-536088
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participanthe doesn’t propose to create an unhealthy balance between “chibas E”Y” and the mitzvos. He doesn’t write that one should sacrifice his ruchnius for the sake of “chibas E”Y” or living there.
Did anyone on this thread propose such a thing?
October 7, 2014 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm in reply to: Totally Random Thread Title Just to Confuse PAA #1061305☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhich did not say “if some psychic anomaly has put forth its diseased tendrils in your inner world, then you must use more powerful drugs, those that are designed for the very ill”
That’s a poetic way of expressing the hemshech.
And who says I don’t learn mussar?
And who says anyone said you don’t? (And who says…)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, Gam Ki Eileich…
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, ????? ??? ????? ???? for ????.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe ???? is counting the ?.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHere is the Sefer Charedim PAA referred to:
http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=37325&st=&pgnum=197&hilite=
Hakatan, give it up. You’re wrong on this one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere’s a teshuvas Rivash on it, IIRC.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBut maybe your wife is dead and now the brother has no kids left?
Right. That was my kashya.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you have any relatives or friends you can go to for Yom Kippur?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlso, ??? is an ????? in the ???, but ??”? is not.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIn those three minutes, popa, did you figure out why ??”? had to say that ????? was from a second marriage, instead of the ??? marrying his niece?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBeautiful story.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGood work, HaLeiVi.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHouses are cheaper further away from BMG. Also, most houses today are built with rentable basement apartments (built to code) which makes buying more affordable.
Most newly married couples rent, and when it comes time to buy, buy in a new development a fair distance from BMG.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy humility.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, it’s how the younger generation expresses its admiration and brachah to the older generation.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNice idea for a thread.
October 6, 2014 12:27 am at 12:27 am in reply to: If you think the R word is offensive you are retarded #1199766☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantit is obvious that they do not mean it negatively
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI like rude people.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou don’t like Ilan Ilan?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA Zilzul should mean something inherently antithetical to the notion of being Shoves. A ShabbosApp might Taka do that; I can’t see how an elevator does.
First, I’m glad we are maskim that this is worse than an elevator. This is indeed a stirah to being shoves. I like how you put that.
I think the reason an elevator might be considered zilzul is is because you are actively (for lack of a better word) using it, i.e. it is transporting you, whereas lights are just on, albeit benefitting you. I think 29 might be alluding to this point. Agav, my rav may be mattir to visit my grandmother on the 40th floor. With no alternative to walk, and a tzorech gadol, it might be okay. In the situation I was involved in, although there was a tzorech gadol, there was a reasonable alternative to walk.
Ivory, popa is referring to the fact that tzedukim held you can’t even have a fire lit from before Shabbos. However, we’ve always been allowed to have fire/light in our homes on Shabbos, the only thing that changed is that the source is now electrical.
Actively using an electrical device is entirely different.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI disagree.
1) I’ve never seen PBA post long excerpts from seforim
2) PAA doesn’t use the r word in every other sentence
3) PBA uses a lot more abbreviations than PAA (example: DY vs. PAA spelling out DaasYochid)
4) PAA isn’t rude
5) PBA is sharp witted, while PAA has more of an intellectual sense of humor
Whoever posited that they have similar styles has no idea what they’re talking about.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLior, there’s no ???? ???? ????? on ?????? ??????.
PAA, I remember thinking the same thing, but finding that someone (I don’t recall who) is medayek Rashi that it doesn’t apply to a pleasure trip.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, I hope you’re right, but there are definitely people taking it seriously.
FWIW, my rav assers Shabbos elevators, no matter the technology, because of zilzul Shabbos, and this is obviously much worse.
Did you read the Chazon Ish I linked? He disagrees with your assertion that something is fine if there were no issurim. This would obviously be much different than lights or a/c.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, I assume that you don’t condone chillul Shabbos for even an hour.
The developers of this app will have to give huge din v’cheshbon if they go through with this. Besides for not making anything muttar, they are fooling people into thinking they are making it muttar by inventing issurim which this app supposedly takes care of.
And no, Sam, emphatically NO, it would not be okay even if they somehow took care of the technical issurim.
http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=14336&st=&pgnum=158&hilite=
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAppdev, you’re going to have to give royalties to popa.
Seriously, though, good idea.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAre they really?
Well, yours is a more feminine version.
And I’ve been waiting for a get for 11 years now.
Stop letting him have the last piece of cake, and maybe he’ll give it to you. It shouldn’t be a big deal; he’s got enough wives without you.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s not just that, you’re styles are just so similar.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat reminds of the yekke and the non-yekke who were at shalishudis and there were two pieces of cake left, and the non-yekke takes the bigger one. Says the yekke, “you know, if I had taken first, I would have left you the larger piece.”
“So what’s the problem?”, responds the non-yekke, “you got the one you wanted!”
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, guess don’t ask your Rav on Shabbos in the same room as the phone.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant:????? ?”?
???? ????? ???????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSqueak, I didn’t see your latest post when I posted. Avichai might be flawed, but is Pew similarly flawed? I know they were off in terms of classification (frum with Xmas trees??!!) but in numbers as well?
Are you really skeptical that we are experiencing a high rate of population growth? I think even popa accepts that, FWIW (maybe you think he took you up on your free drink offer).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat data is missing?
Population growth? Aside from being pretty obvious anecdotally, the Pew report has data on it.
Age gap? You’re right. No studies, but I’ll go with what my eyes tell me, that the starting age for shidduchim has a 3-4 year spread, and most marriages follow suit.
Disparity of older singles? I’m maskim to not accept anecdotal evidence alone on that, it’s reasonable to suggest that there would be a perception bias there. I’m not maskim to dismiss the fact that the first two (growth and gap) lead to a disparity, it is pretty simple math, and experts have confirmed that.
Ela mai? Girls go otd more than boys? 10-12% more boys are born than girls? 8-10% of girls are marrying chsssidishe boys? It’s my weakest link, I’m maskim, but these are all highly counterintuitive (or in the case if birth ratio, against census studies).
October 2, 2014 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm in reply to: Country Yossi versus Abie Rottenberg versus? #1113478☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAbie’s “The Wedding Song” is also funny, and he actually put out a comedy album, called, IIRC, “Time to Laugh”.
They are both (YT and AR) immensely talented.
DaMoshe, I believe “In a Vinkel’e” is not Abie’s own composition, but rather, R’ Menachem Davidowitz’.
Edit: I just found this:
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSold. I think squeak is making the mistake of thinking I hold of age gap because of the PR.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s the first normal reason I’ve heard to change my mind about this.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGood comeback. Completely taking my position on the shidduch crisis out of context, but a good line nevertheless (and fairly mild considering how I blasted you earlier).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLior, fair point, it only proves population growth if it’s not at the expense of other communities (which, I understand, is no longer the case. IOW, after losing for a while, Flatbush, for example, has stabilized).
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m pretty sure we don’t have a 12% population growth every three years.
It’s at least pretty close.
I thought you were suggesting you could prove population growth by measuring enrollment in Lakewood schools. I was pointing out that people also move to and from Lakewood. The city.
I was. Unless you think only people with 5 year old kids move to Lakewood, the fact that every year a whole bunch of new primary classes open, more than older grades, should tip you off as to what’s going on.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo you mean it’s better than the old one? OK, but why would someone use it instead of a regular browser (unless, as one poster mentioned, the don’t want a browser at all.)
