☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
I can get that in NY.
Okay, so fleishigs it’ll be. 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s like the heter with showing hair at the front – a specific ruling was given by R’ Moshe for a very specific sheila and it has somehow been twisted to become a worldwide ‘accepted’ ruling.
IIRC, he doesn’t write that context into the teshuvah. However, he does acknowledge that he’s arguing with the Chasam Sofer, and worse, people somehow use it to expose a lot more hair than he ever allowed.
Tefach means area, but it seems that many women think it’s linear. And they’re makpid on the Chazon Ish’s shiur.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantlavan
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou have to say that in the recipe!
Now I’m not sure, when you invite me to your place, if I want Chicago style deep dish pizza, or a BBQ.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY’s favorite summer recipe: put chocolate ice cream and milk in a blender (the less milk, the better). Blend.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s a grill, not a BBQ.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAny.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s okay, by then the guys I’d be nervous about are already at kiddush club.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI forgive her.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey’re looking to see that you don’t break any rules, and that you seem to have control over the car.
If that’s alright, and the inspector is in a good mood, you might pass.

July 2, 2014 3:21 pm at 3:21 pm in reply to: New Chovevei "Rabbi" is as Orthodox as His Wife #1021966☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think this was a Hart attack.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantso i see more yes that nos
I really wouldn’t recommend hunting for someone with vision problems.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow yellow? They sell a special bug light.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTry a yellow bulb.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBears are kosher, Goq? 🙂
Here’s the link to the NB quoted by PAA. He says it’s achzarius, and also assur because of sakana.

So, finley, that is a no.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDoes that mean the new chovevei rabbi is off the hook? Although I doubt that’s what Charlie meant.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI assume you mean ?? ???? ???? yes.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow do you define “NYC”? I’m sure there are areas outside of Flatbush/Boro Park/Williamsburg/Teaneck
Remind me again, I always forget; what’s the fifth borough?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantis everyone who is currently buying a house in NYC making over $200,000 yearly or have very wealthy parents?
Not precisely, because some have lower expenses, but yes, it takes a lot of money to buy a house in NYC.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFrom there:
???-?? ????? ?? ?????
???? ????? ?? ?????
???? ?? ??????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOf course, this all depends on one’s definition of Orthodox.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHis learning was respected, but his being at JTS was held against him personally.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, that depends on your definition of “talmid chochom”.
June 30, 2014 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm in reply to: New Chovevei "Rabbi" is as Orthodox as His Wife #1021955☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAha.
June 30, 2014 2:03 pm at 2:03 pm in reply to: New Chovevei "Rabbi" is as Orthodox as His Wife #1021953☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, rigorous smicha ??? ??? ?????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, you’re probably right. It would take some creativity to be mattir.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, chukas akum? 🙂
Seriously, what issur?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat about the people who daven from smartphones?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSiDi, if I were a troll, I’d want to get down and dirty and keep on trolling. In fact, you can take out the word “if”. 🙂
Wolf, the OP didn’t say what you are claiming he did. He did not say that *any* unnecessary expenditure is wrong. He specifically referred to going to the country.
You extended it to other, lesser expenses, and then attacked your own straw man.
It’s possible the OP would extend it to lesser expenses, but they’re not the same, as I illustrated in my example.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhen one is dictating dress codes to others, however, one is required to prove one’s position from a halachic source.
The Orchos Tzaddikim didn’t hold back from saying how women shouldn’t dress. I am still amazed that you think people should or should not be “dictated to” based on whether you choose to call it halachic or hashkafic.
And the answer to your “pircha” is that the kal vachomer is based on the reality that men do notice women.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBig meiheicha teisi.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWolf and SiDi, someone may have opened an account to post comments on the news, and years later posted on the CR.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, it’s not being done (in those cases) for nekama, it’s being done to achieve a fair result.
Note that popa said that in 50% of the cases it is appropriate.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, then, 147, popa’s comments would be only 50% correct. 🙂
Despite your experiences, I find it highly improbable that all cases are the woman’s fault. In fact, in some cases it’s probably legitimate to withhold custody. As I said, each case needs to be evaluated on its own.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWolf, why isn’t it logical to differentiate between minor extras and major extras? Again, I’ll take the liberty of making an assumption, but I would guess that you do the same with your discretionary spending. You may add mayonnaise to your tuna, but I doubt you dine in Le Marais daily.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, I have no idea how common or uncommon it is. But I keep the word never out of the discussion.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantUnless she’s YCT.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWolf, you are likely exaggerating the OP’s opinion.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, it’s sometimes difficult to define “clearly over”.
More importantly, there have been cases where some very big poskim have allowed the get to be used as leverage. Obviously, this can be abused, but as I said, you can’t make an absolute rule out of it. It needs to be decided case by case, and too bad on us if we can’t be nosy about something which is none of our business to begin with.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSplenda, yes. It bothers me when people try to make an absolute rule out of it. Every case needs to be evaluated in its own, and most people don’t have enough information to form a valid opinion. If that means that we internet commentators can’t take sides, so be it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWork is for modernishe shkotzim.
Finally, someone with the guts to say the truth.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m a salaried employee. I don’t get paid by the hour.
So, the objection still stands.
The Wolf
I would think you could find a way to moonlight and make $5 in those 8 hours (minus the time it takes on the train).
So my objection still stands. 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSplenda, fine, so add to the definition that she wants to be free to marry.
Sam, I wasn’t trying to make a political statement. I know too little about ORA to have an opinion about it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDafbiyun, my daughter and son in law come to us for a few weekends; I hope he doesn’t feel the way you do.
Wait, do you think…
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWolf, bad example, because you presumably earn more than $5 during those eight hours.
I do agree with you in priciple though, aside from the way I defended the practice.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGavra, I put “mere” in parentheses because I think it is important. I don’t know if there’s more importance to either; they are both ratzon Hashem.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, it’s used in any context in which a woman is halachically proscribed from getting married.
I doubt there are a whole lot of sources for use of the term regarding men.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant[hashkafic] source
I am amazed that someone can take a statement which says “??? ???? ????” and try to minimize the severity by relegating it to the realm of “mere” hashkafah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, it’s probably stuffed with money.
