I stopped cold turkey & it’s been about 10.5 yrs. since & haven’t gone back to it. It’s probably one of the best things I did for myself. Besides, I don’t have it in my apt. anymore-I gave it back to my Parents.

I know someone who can do it w/ you on the phone as well. I did it w/ her. She logged me into her accts. & she showed me the various different things to know in QuickBooks. But for that, you need to have internet on your computer. Sometimes, she’s in town & gives a class-but, she’s from out of town so she’s not here that often at least from what I understand. If you want to get the info. ask the moderator how you can touch base with me & I’ll give you the information.

There are a number of songs which are my very favorite songs. But one of my very favorite songs are from the days of yesteryear is from Avraham Fried’s very first album, No Jew will be left behind – “Return” – first of all, I love the tune of the introduction to it, secondly, it’s a very heartzig & warm song in my honest humble opinion. After this one, there’s a whole list of songs which I love as well-but the list might be too long to put in here.

Curiosity, is that something that you’d pick up in any fruit store? If not, then where can you pick up something like that? I can use a treatment like that too since I’m also dealing w/ toe nail fungus which I’d love to get rid of asap.

My favorite perfume that I love most is called First. It’s by Van Cleef & Arpels. It’s really nice. I only use it on special occasions since it’s not cheap at all. Otherwise, I use Channel 5, Clarins Eau Tranquility-great for everyday use, Estee Lauder’s Beautiful, White Linen, Anais Anais by Cacharel, Givenchy’s Very Irresistible.

They’re having for that Shabbaton Charlie Harary. He is an amazing, exceptional, inspiring & very humorous speaker!! If you can go, then Go for it-you won’t be sorry you went at all!!

Oomis1105, I don’t know anything about this illness. However, I just hope that who ever you are using as your doctor, I hope he’s really good in this field. Because if you get someone who is not very long in the business &/or not too experienced, I wish you luck!! You need to have someone who is extremely good at diagnosing various symptoms.

I can give you the name of the Gastroenterologist whom I use. He’s uptown Manhattan. But these days, he’s only there part of the week since he’s semi-retired. But, he happens to be top of the line. His name is Dr. Present & he’s located at 12 East 86th st. bet. Madison & 5th Ave’s. His number is 1-212-861-2000. Call during the day till 3:30 P.M.-that’s when they stop answering calls. I just don’t know as to whether he takes new patients or not. So you’d need to find that out. Also, he doesn’t take any insurance. So you’d need to pay out of pocket & send the claim over to your insurance carrier if they accept out of network insurances.

Hatzlacha Rabba whatever you decide to do & Refuah Sh’laimah!!

Lemonysnicket & snjn I share in your pain & difficulty in dealing w/ IBS since I can relate to the issues that you both talk about here. But, can you please tell me what you’re supposed to do when you feel a real low of energy & also weakness & fatigue after having a long & difficult session in the bathrm due to a combination of major constipation & looseness in your bm? I have such a hard time in the mornings which also causes me to be delayed in getting in to my job. Thank goodness that I was off from work today, cause I don’t know how I would’ve handled that!! I felt so miserable a whole day!!

am yisrael chai, well, this certainly gave me something to smile about. It’s quite humorous if you ask me. I don’t know, although I find it really cute, but I think you really have to be brave & have guts to do something like that!! I’m always afraid that certain actions might backfire & then there’s the issue of dealing w/ it-which is never ever fun. It can get at times a bit sticky.

kapusta, I forgive you so long as you don’t make a habit of it. Anyways, what is your feeling/opinion as to my issue that I posted here @ the O.P. & then later in my response?

am yisrael chai, thanks for your cute advice. But, have you seen anyone do something of this sort to anyone? Like, wouldn’t the recipient feel uncomfortable w/ that type of thing? I’d feel so uneasy doing something like that. Some people might get a kick out of it, while some might be bothered by it. What’s your opinion?

Thank you everyone for your help/advice & encouragement in my dealing w/ this hurdle. I do appreciate it very much. Sorry for the delay in getting any response from me, but I am in work & it’s not so simple for me to keep on top of what’s going on in the C.R. since I’m quite busy at work & especially now @ the 1st part of the month.

By nature, I’m the type that I do like to & try to do things for others or help them out if I’m able to cause by doing such acts of kindness earns me so to speak more “points” in earning more z’chusim which is something that we all need to obtain. Earning more z’chusim is something which can help us all at any point in the long run in any shape or form. And when you’re going through a time in your life, where you need Hashems constant help & guiding hand in order to enable you to push through w/ all your various trials & tribulations that we have to deal w/ on a constant basis, we need to work on trying to better our lives in which ever positive way that we can.

So one thing that I sometimes try to do for some people (those that I know or think would appreciate it) since I realized that I had a talent for it was that when I’d get an invitation to a simcha be it a Bar Mitzvah or a Wedding, so what I do is that I take the person’s name (Chasan or Kallah, depending on whose side I’m invited from for a wedding) & write it going downwards & what I do is I look for an appropriate Pasuk from Tehillim & sometimes elsewhere if something pops into my mind for each letter of that person’s name whether they have one name or more. So I’m working w/ a Tehillim Chida & a Transliterated Hebrew/English Tehillim to find the translation of the Psukim. This usually can take me anywhere bet. an 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. & sometimes even more than that. But before I send it out, I usually run it through w/ one of my friends just to see if it sounds good & that it makes sense. So it’s definitely a lot of work-but it’s a good challenge for me-cause although it’s a little hard, I still enjoy it. So when the people to whom I send it to don’t acknowledge anything to me after all the hard work I put into it, that’s when it gets to me. It’s not that I’m doing just so that I can get a thank you from that person. But, I just feel that if someone does something really nice for you, so then why can’t the person be a metsch & acknowledge the action that was done for them?

There is such a thing that some people just don’t fargin another person for being able to master something of the like or when something goes better for another person than for them. So it’s below their dignity to even pick up a phone & give some sort of acknowledgement to me to say anything of the like.

Am I wrong in my feelings? And if yes, can you tell me how to better or change my way of going about it? Thanx.

Can anyone tell me please what if anything you know about Rabbi Wallerstein’s Seminary called Ateres Naava that he has together w/ college? I’m a single divorced mother & I have a daughter in 12th grade & I’m trying to see which Seminary here in Brooklyn would be an option for her for next yr, IY”H? She already told me based on what we heard about the new one from R’. Assaf, that she does not want to go there nor does she want B.Y. Seminary either. I feel like I don’t have too many options besides Machon. So I’m just wondering if that might even be an option for her or not? Any suggestions/insights, please?

in reply to: What are you doing about Elul?? Pls share… #805465

Here is a copy of an E-mail on this topic which I received recently from someone I know that I’d like to share w/ you:

Focusing on Doing Good During Elul

What things should you do during Elul to make this month a productive and accomplishing month, so that you can look back at the end of the month and say, “Wow! I really changed!”?

The thing to focus on now is asay tov – doing good things before you focus on the sur may’ra – refraining from doing bad. This means that you should concentrate on doing all the good things you are doing each day and just add a little something to make it even better.

(From: Leket Reshimos on Elul – R’ Nosson Meir Vachtfogel)

    Here are some suggestions:

When it comes to davening, you can try to daven with a little bit more Kavannah than usual. Look into your siddur. Say the words a drop slower than usual. Say them loud enough so that you can hear each word that you say. Sing a song that will inspire you before you start the next part.

If you are walking down the street or in the grocery store, look out for opportunities to help other people. Hold the door open for others on your way in and out. Offer to help someone find a specific item. Smile at the woman ringing up your purchases. Help someone carry their bags to the car. Put your shopping cart back where it belongs. Do these things with a smile.

Help your mother out cheerfully. Ask her what she needs before she asks you. Or better yet, do it without being asked. Be extra kind to your siblings. Speak softly even when they are getting you annoyed.

Walk into work every day for the next week (or more, if that’s possible) with a smile. Say good morning with a happy tone of voice and facial expression to your coworkers. Try to be extra pleasant when talking on the phone to clients and take the extra moment to think about them and what you can do to help them in the best way possible.

Before you eat a meal, be it breakfast, lunch or supper, look at the food you are about to eat and thank Hashem in your heart for giving you so much bounty-so many choices of foods, so many colors and tastes. Then, after you thought about it for a minute, go ahead and make the proper bracha.

Putting those extra seconds of thought into it just before you eat your meal can help you have real kavannah when you make a bracha.

On your way out of the bathroom, think for a minute about how lucky you are to be able to go by yourself, without the help of anyone, without needing machines hooked up to your body. The fact that your body works so well on it’s own is a real, true miracle! So take those extra 20 seconds to say the words of asher yatzar slowly and carefully!!

Before you leave your house in the morning, look in the mirror and ask yourself do I look good? What does good mean? YOU and only you can define that word.

Are you neat and put together? Are you walking outside and making a kiddush Hashem with the way you dress, the way you walk and the way you talk?

Throughout your day, look out for ways to do little things – little things that will make a big difference in the lives of other people and in your own life. Now that we are in Elul, it is time for you to focus on being proactive, on doing as many positive mitzvos as possible so that you can tip the scales in your favor. Hashem is here! He is close to us! He wants to give us all the brachos and good things!

It’s up to you to make it happen. By concentrating on how you can improve the things you are doing one little notch, one level higher, you can make this year a good one.

Hatzlacha Rabba to one & all!!!!!!

Wow! That is beautiful & amazing! If only everyone would be thinking just like you, things would be so much more different. If only, if only…..I wish people would be this way.

In the unfortunate story of Leiby Kletzky A”H, there was a lot of Achdus & a Kiddush Hashem which was brought about by all of Klal Yisroel here in our community & people out of town who came to help & give their support. And then after the Levaya when things were starting to quiet down, it seemed like even though our community was still in a state of shock & fear, the whole Achdus theme seemed to me like it was going down hill unfortunately. So as the famous question goes “why do we have to wait for a terrible tzara to befall upon someone in Klal Yisrael in order to become more B’achdus”? Don’t wait for the tzara to happen!! Why can’t the Achdus & Mentschlichkeit amongst people (be it people from our own circles or even Goyim-like those we deal w/ in business or someone behind the cash register…) be more of a natural thing by us yidden? Can you all imagine how HKB”H would be smiling down upon us if we would all be more B’achdus & more Mentschlich to all those around us in a more natural way like it’s a part of us & it’s not something that needs thinking about cause to us it would be very normal & natural for us to behave in this type of mannerism w/ other people? When will we ever learn to do things right for once & for all?

I’m sorry if I’m coming down on you people a little too strong, but it hurts to see how some people amongst us behave & how some people just never learn their lesson from before!!

Well Kol Hakovod to you “Always runs with scissors fast” & may you always be a great source of inspiration to all those around you!!!!!

Although I find it interesting to read other people’s trials & tribulations of how they went through & survived the war, it’s still a topic that gives me nightmares. But in any event, I will still share w/ you people whatever I do know from my Father’s history.

My Father’s family lived in Debrecen, Hungary before the war. They were then taken to the concentration camp of Bergen Belsen where they kept families together. My Father was all of 5 or 6 yrs old at the time of the war. I’m not sure if it was right away or soon after, my Father’s Father was taken to a different camp of I think forced labor where he was never to be seen again by his wife or children. He died R”L only 2 weeks prior to the war ending. My Father & his Mother & siblings were also in the Mathausen & Thereisenstadt concentration camps as well. After they were liberated, they were in the DP camps in Frankfurt where they stayed I think until they came to America to Ellis Island w/ his Mother & all his other siblings.

While in Frankfurt, he always used to perform for the people there including the American Soldiers since he knew how to sing very well & he was a little kid & at that time there were hardly any little children who had survived the war. They were from the few who had survived the war-so they always used to make my Father crazy that he should sing for them again. The American soldiers used to bring for them chocolates & candies.

Later in his life, he killed his voice from smoking way too much. Although he hasn’t smoked in at least 15-20 yrs. or maybe more by now, his voice never came back to him-it was just too late!!

So my recommendation as a lesson to all you young boys/men who have been given a wonderful talent from Hakadosh Boruch Hu to sing, appreciate the gift you’ve been given & do yourselves & your family a very big favor & don’t even think of putting a cigarette into your mouth ever-not even 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clark Kent, I hope that this information has been helpful to you & anyone else as well too.

To s2021-A tooth is being implanted. You see, originally, I first needed a root canal on this particular tooth & it had to be redone cause I was having pain over there & a new x-ray showed some kind of possible infection. But, the root canal specialist couldn’t finish the job since he said it was too complicated of a job. He felt that I needed to remove the tooth & then put in an implant. So, I went to see my oral surgeon who took a look at my tooth & the x-ray he had from right before the root canal & he also thought that it should be removed & then put in a tooth implant 3 months later. So I just had the tooth extracted yesterday & next wk. will have the stitches removed.

And, if you’re the type of person who doesn’t feel comfortable going to a singles event, so then what else can one do for themselves-how do you get your name out there?

I’ve already asked my friends to ask their husbands if they knew of anyone-but that didn’t seem to get me anywhere. I’ve made many phone call to shaddchanim & by now some of them fizzled out. They don’t do it anymore. Anyone w/ any advice or some good insight into this matter? I happened to have been at the Ohr Naava Shabbaton this winter which was really nice I must say. They had the Mezamrim choir there along w/ Dovid Stein, Avrumi Flam, Lipa Schmeltzer, Ohad Moskowitz. Well, when it was time for Havdalah, they had the Mezamrim choir do the singing of the Havdalah & I’m not sure who, but someone was playing the guitar & Dovid Stein was holding the Hadalah lecht & they shut the lights. They were singing the nigunim from Carlebach & I must tell you-it was a sight to behold, seriously!! It was so beautiful I’ve never seen a Havdalah done in that manner w/ music & w/ a choir singing. It was just amazing!!!!

smile66, I can understand how you feel, but I don’t think you have to feel so bad about this. Money is tight is many homes especially in these bad economic times. I don’t think it’s a drop in the bucket as you mention. I’m sure these people do get donations from other people as well. I don’t know if they get from 500 other people. But I would imagine that they do get some of it. In addition, I don’t think that it’s incorrect to think that it’s wrong to give to various different places. Not everyone is in a position to be able to give so generously to one person/organization. The more a person is able to distribute his tzedakah to different places, the greater the mitzvah. Hatzlacha w/ your dilemma.

I have my phone/internet line w/ Matzavnet. The technicians were not able for some odd reason to help me out. They told me to call the company from my printer/fax machine. Well, I’ve been on the phone w/ them this past wk. for quite some time. Part of my problem is, is that when I call them, I need to call from my cell phone cause both my reg phone & my fax line go on the same line. If they need me to do certain functions on the machine & then do a test fax, so I cannot call them on my reg. phone. So I call them from my cell phone & no matter whether it was just charged or if it’s still in the charger, but, I still many times lose my calls. So I need to keep calling them back & then I wind up speaking each time to a different tech. representative & even though they have the notes from the previous rep., I still need to go over w/ them my problem w/ my fax machine. So the first couple of reps. were telling me that I needed a new one. Then the other ones were telling me that the phone jack that goes from the back of the fax mach. has to lead to a wall jack. However, although mine was in a phone jack, but it wasn’t in a wall jack. So the guy told me to get a longer phone jack. Well I finally got a much longer one & since I already have a diff. wire connected to the jack in the wall, so I put that double jack piece into the wall jack & put both of the jacks into it, but I still have a problem w/ it. In order for me to speak w/ the co., I need to wait now until Monday to speak w/ them-they’re not open on Sunday.

I don’t know if I can answer your question entirely, but I think that both situations are important. It’s very nice to be able to give a large sum of money to an organization who helps to the poor & needy. But, not always is it financially possible to give one big lump sum to 1 place. The mitzvah isn’t to only give to 1 place a lg. lump sum. You can give to as many places even if there smaller amounts of money. (It’s like when you get in the mail these pamphlets from some organization based in Eretz Yisrael & they tell you that if you call in by a certain day & time w/ $180, $250 etc. you can have your name/s mentioned by the Kosel & other Mekomos Hakedoshim w/ a minyan of people saying Tehillim for 40 days/nts & see your Yeshuah IY”H. Like how many people do you all know that can afford to always give such types of sums. Oh, w/ some of these organizations, if you want to put in more than 1 name, so you need to give at least double the amount of Money. In these difficult times w/ the economy, how many people out there can really afford to give these amounts that are being requested?) I find that when I have to give to more than one place either from organizations that I have pledged to already & other things that come in the mail, since I’m not in a position to be able to give very large sums of monies, so I try to divide it up between each organization. To some, I might give $18, & some others I might give $36. If I feel I want to give more, so I give as much as I feel I can give at that time.

After 10:00 P.M., too busy w/ taking care of other stuff first.

Also, sorry to get off the tangent everyone, but can anyone tell me if they might know – if I needed help from Verizon to come to my apt. to help me out w/ checking my phone connections inside my apt. cause I’m having a problem w/ my fax machine (I have an all in one printer) I cannot send or receive any faxes & there seems to be a problem w/ the communication &/or maybe the wiring-would they come to me even if I’m not a customer of theirs? If they wouldn’t, then whom can I call to help me out w/ resolving my issue?

My very good friend’s oldest sister was crossing the street to get to her car where her husband & kids were waiting for her & she fell really badly on the black ice. Well, her family who was in the car didn’t realize right away that she had fallen & was on the floor until a passerby knocked on her husband’s door pointing out to him that someone was on the floor. When he came out of the car, he saw his wife on the floor & when he realized that she could in no way get up from the floor due to the excrutiating pain that she was in, he had no choice but to call Hatzolah. She was taken to the emergency rm. & after taking the necessary tests, they told her the horrible news that she broken/cracked her heel & yesterday she had surgery on her heel. My friend told me today that her sister is in lots of pain.

To Professional, I went into Empire’s Doctor Look up to see if I can find Dr. Ingber’s name in the list of Chiropractor’s. Well this is what came up & let me know if this is the one you’re referring to okay.

    Dr. Linda Ingber, PT

    67 Carman Ave

    Cedarhurst, NY 11516

    (516) 569-6800

If this is the one that you’re referring to, well I live in Brooklyn & not in Cedarhurst. Does she have an office in Brooklyn & if yes where exactly is she located & what is her phone #?

Thank you in advance for your help.

eclipse, I guess I don’t know you well enough yet to know that you were just kidding. Besides, I’m only here in the coffee rm. for just a few days-right?! So I’m not so well versed in everything that goes on here in the coffee rm. If not for this particular thread, I would’ve never known that he’s a repair guy.

For the record, my screen name is: Hummingbird & not Hummy, nor bird. I like it in it’s full name.

I sure can Professional. But there’s only one problem-which is that I need your E-mail Address in order to send you an E-mail cause I don’t know it. Also, what exactly do you want me to e-mail you cause I’m not quite sure what it is that you want from me?

eclipse, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know that there’s a problem w/ patronizing someone who is part of the coffee rm. So my appologies to you in all sincerity. I hope you forgive me.
