HaLeiVi, you like better the Ben Ish Chai explains? By me they have the same meaning. I did not put a subject in the front, obviously I mean the subject is the Ben Ish Chai. If someone else explains, I would have said, the Ben Ish Chai is explained. Why don’t you criticize the exchange of who and whom, the subject and the object?

Tosfas in Kedushin, (39,2) starting words, machshava, explains that by a Jew a good intention is like action but not a bad intention and opposite is true by a goy. Explains the Maharal with the Meharsha that a Jew is basically good and will follow up in action on his intention to do good but not bad and the opposite by a goy.

To whom do you return the kesuba to? There are both muchzakim here. The heirs the money and the wife the kesuba. Could be that since the kesuba is out of her hand here, she is not muchzak on it any more, so we say they paid it and she cannot collect the kesuba.

A tzadik ben tzadik has two zechusim whereas a tzadik ben rasha only one and half. We find what you say from the Alter of Kelm by Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov when they are mentioned in reverse order vezocharti es brisi Yaakov etc., indicating according to the Ksav Sofer, that each one was great not because of his father but by his own accomplishment.

Ani reflects the hardest meseches, Eruvin, Nidah and Yevomus. Maybe, they are all related to unity where the center is the closest. We find, it says beficha, ubilvovecha laasoso. Says the Rabbenu Bachaya that the sides turn to the center so that the mouth, expression is from the heart and the action is fron the heart. Husband and wife have the closest relationship. Marrying a brother’s wife is somewhat further and bringing people together through an eiruv is even further. They should all turn to center. To understand the hardest meseches we need unity which correct sinas chinam, futile hatred and bring Meshiach in our time, Amen.

It is the expression by Yosef when Yaakov Avinu bows down to him in Parashas Vaychi, taaleh beidna ‘sagid’ leih, a fox when he is ruler is bowed down to, so was Yosef. This an Ethiopian Jewish holiday celebrating when Hashem first revealed Himself to Moshe Rabbenu at the burning bush choosing him as a leader.

The Targum Yonasan says that Eisov denied the after-life. However, the question is why did Yaakov Avinu say after Eisov asked for lentils to sell his birthright? The Maasei Hashem says an interesting pshat. Yaakov Avinu knew what was told to his mother, Rivkah that rav yaavod tzair, the elder will serve the younger. So, Yaakov Avinu said, if you want me to serve you, I must be the elder, so you must sell me your birthright.

When it comes to Ribis, it says lo yechetzu yemehem. Explains the Ben Ish Chai that Yitzchak Avinu said that half of time people are sleeping so they should not be punished as they are not sinning. However, one who takes ribis, even when he is sleeping his money makes money, so the days cannot be divided in half, but vaani evtach boch, I trust you, so I don’t take ribbis and my days will be divided.

When it comes to Meshiach what happens to the gemora of tipach atzmosov, his bones be blown up for those who count the days towards his coming. There is mashel where one takes his son and a friend to Leibzig, the market (the most populous place in Germany). His son asks right away when will we get there? The father gets very upset, yelling, why are you asking me when we just started to travel. After a while the friend asks the same question, so he answers him in another hour. Says the son, why did you scream at me when I asked? The answer is obvious, it was not time to ask but now in the akavte demeshicha, the time when Meshiach can come, is the time to count and ask.

The Maharam Shick paskens not to place a secular year on a matzeva as it indicates the lack of life after death but try putting a Hebrew date on a check. In the Wiener cemetery, the matzeva writing is checked ahead of time and no English is allowed. We should use lemisporom on an invitation.

Little Froggie, I think that the SA answers all questions. Abbaye’s view is accepted when possible but a safek does not undo a vaday, so normally we are not chashud but if we know for a fact with eidim that he steals even rabbinically as playing cards, we are chashud and no shevua is placed on him.

Did the Rebbe ever say that he is Meshiach? Hilel says that their will be no limos hamoshiach. Explains the Rav Abarbanel that techiyas hamesim will occur with the coming of Meshiach and no forty years will be in between them. That a dead person should become meshiach only works with this minority view.

The Shlah Hakadash says that reward and punishment, the second of the three beliefs which is a summarization from the Baal Haikarim of the Rambam’s thirteen, is a measuring stick of the nachas ruach we provide to Hashem through our performance of the 613 mitzvos. We should do mitzvos for this purpose and reward and punishment will come automatically.

The Ksav Sofer on Parashas Yisro gives a mashel from his father the Chasam Sofer. A father had a goldmine and had multiple children. He wanted that the youngest child should inherit it, so he taught him the act of goldmining and divided the goldmine equally. Since the others did not know what to do with it, it automatically fell to the youngest child. The Torah Shebeksav is the goldmine and the Torah Shebaal Peh the act of goldmining. We received the Torah Shebaal Peh so we were able to understand the Torah Shebelsav. The Rabbenu Bachaya has another mashel where a king commands in writing his child to follow certain behavior and the reward given if followed by him. Being afraid that it will fall into the wrong hands who will demand the reward for their behavior, he passes part of his commandment orally.

We have the neshama and the guf. The neshama has a tendency to strive towards above and the guf for below. Which overpowers which? The question is how can we both get a reward and punishment? If one has tendency to turn to the right, above why a reward? On the other hand, if the tendency is vice versa, why a punishment? They say that the tendency is to do the right thing and in order to reward us Hashem created the yetzer hara and that is for our benefit to get rewarded once we don’t follow him. Shechara ani venava. Now we have a tendency to do bad but we get punished because we also have the yetzer tov and the neshama.

The Darashas Haran, Darush 7, explains that Rebbi Eliezer’s view was not accepted even it is emes according to the heavenly understanding, as once the Torah was given down to earth at kabolas hatorah, we must understand it through human understanding. Maybe, for the same reason currently we don’t pasken like the Beis Shamai but leosid lavo we will gain a higher understanding and the majority will follow the Beis Shamai so we will pasken like them.

Torah Sebaal Peh was not allowed to be written down originally so the minimum was passed over to each recipient which sufficed then for their great understanding but as the Jews were in diaspora their minds became weaker and questions arose which they started to argue about. The Rabbenu Bachaya explains at the end of Parashas Ki Sisa that Rebbi, Rebbi Yehuda Hanasi only wrote down the minimum necessary for understanding. As the generations went on, more and more explanations and commentaries became necessary.

AAQ, the Chasan Sofer explains the pasuk by Yosef as Potifar’s wife spoke to him daily he did not listen to her. This is how the yetzer hara operates. He nudges a person constantly to sin as he has no good merchandise to sell. However, the yetzer tov does not talk so much as the merchandise talks. A lesson in marketing where good merchandise only needs description but not much convincing.
