Don’t go without a support network, there is lots available. Anonymous helplines like Yitty Leibel helpline 718 435 7669, and recognized Rabbanim and Rebbetzins who have helped many others find stability. Gut voch .

Vogue -A public school kid once asked me why Judaism has so many commandments, other religions are so much easier to keep? I answered by pointing out that the human brain is the most complex known thing in the universe, it has more connectors than the entire communications system on earth today, one human brain! We believe that the same G-d that created the brain gave the Torah, the instruction manual for the brain. What makes more sense a few easy to follow instructions or a complex, deep involved system? When it comes to music it is clear to everyone that there is good and bad music, and some has an amazing way to go deep into our brains. My advice is to be true to yourself and set borders, do not accept everything, but do not worry about detractors and ask for help from Above. Have a great Shabbos!

FYI When going from NJ to NY over the Outer Bridge Crossing you change from a 65 mph limit (on NJ440) to only 50 mph limit in Staten Island be careful !! The ticket for going 72 mph in a 50 zone in NY costs $150 plus $300 rem penalty, it hurts!!

longarekel: I disagree about the effect of rallies and speeches. Look at the rally that Ezra made that convinced tens or hundreds of Jewish men to separate from their non-Jewish spouses, something probably not achievable any other way.

More dense housing and less parking in BP.

    More kosher eateries in Flatbush.

For psak halacha ask your Rav; for discussion purposes I believe there is a minhag not to learn the books of Kesuvim at night (maybe a fear of awakening the quality of strict judgement), but saying tehillim is davening and certainly different.

The book helped me also and I spoke (by phone) and got advice from R. Gamliel as well.

There was a story about a powerful non-religious lawyer in Europe who objected to the practice of a certain yeshiva that sent young bachurim collecting and complained to the Rebbe of the yeshiva and he answered him this is important so that they learn it is not wrong to lower oneself and ask for help especially if the alternative is a crack up. The lawyer remembered it years later when his situation changed and he was at the end of his rope, almost suicidal and he came back, to yiddishkeit as well as sanity. Besuras tovos v’kol tuv.

They are more machmir in one way at least that is helpful and that can benefit the overall attitude of the restaurant workers to be more careful, that is in the list of products that are permitted. I know one hechsher that does not use any company even with a national certification if it also produces nonkosher in the same plant. This results in many major brands being asor to them and automatically the employees get trained that not every product is good and the mashgiach has to check everything that comes in.

TCG Perhaps you need to realize the public nature of this law which compels the recognition of these relationships as marriages, this means changes that will effect Jews in many public fields, business, education, law, insurance, etc. I agree with jewishness as to the likely effects on the general morality, a significant further deterioration – the goyim i predict will not be happy – as you say they will -if they see an increase in narcissistic selfishness bringing more crime, drug abuse, dishonesty. Your statement above just let them be is against the lesson the Torah teaches of why the Jew is in this world, IMHO. I hope you broaden your narrow view of our role.

I have a kabula from my rabbeim that the 20% is a minimum and if you want to increase your chances of making it there’s probably no better way than to change your attitude to your less fortunate brothers from whom some of the most passionate and committed Torah observant COME and try to help add to the 20% instead of writing them off. It is the Ribono shel olam who sees the quality He wants and will choose and not our untrustworthy eyes.

TCG and bes. You are not thinking of the literally hundreds of thousands of not yet Torah observant Jews in the USA who are likely to be further distanced and harmed by this legislation and the educational and cultural changes that will ensue.

Noach did not impact his generation but needed to build an ark to save his own family, Avraham called in the name of Hashem and the Jewish people were born.

What does the Torah say about the Chasidah(Stork) that is not kosher, it does kindness only with it’s own!! The poster above chose his name well it seems.

Wolf True I don’t know but I believe that Ha Tzur Taamim Paalo and now that we see what occurred, it is extremely reasonable to assume that if there are some individuals whom Hashem values very highly and would refrain from destructive “footsteps” during their lifetime but not afterward than they could be famous Jewish Leaders among others lesser known, do you disagree?

computer777 Do you really think the Chofetz Chaim would give only 1 or 5 minutes of tehillim or learning to save the life of his close chaver and Rosh Yeshiva ?! The story was the bachurim all were asking for days, weeks, etc. of their lives to give up for their beloved Rebbi, and they approached the Chafetz Chaim and he thought a long time before answering 1 minute, and he was serious not cynical when he answered. Perhaps we should also be considering it?

Do you believe the Twin Towers could have fallen during the lifetimes of the four Gedolim that were niftar the year before or is it true that Hashem chose to remove them first for His reasons? Maybe the olam should back down from being mzalzel this avreich and think a little about what really might be at stake now?

The gemara in Taanis discusses the shemoneh esrei which is expanded to 24 brachos in cases of communal threats (such as famine) and details the text of all the additional brachos, so perhaps there is no need at all to adapt Chazal to medical knowledge just marvel at the reality, Torah came from the Maker!

The slide is ameliorated by the fact we can still rely on the makil shita at times, for instance in kashrus b’hefsed mrubah it is often seen that a rishon that we don’t usually rely on will be. Also in hilchos Shabbos, but this can be taken too far as well; I once heard a Rav matir borar of non-food items based on an Ohr Someach that is seemed (at least to me) to be speaking theoretical and not l’halacha.

OK I know someone who met his wife on a singles shabbaton where there were a range of Jews religiously speaking MO to Yeshivish, BT and FFB, etc. So much so that there was some activities that were not for everybody for instance they had Motzai Shabbos square dancing. He opted out and went to the hotel lobby and just stared at the fireplace there when suddenly a female voice asked him, “Are they really supposed to be doing that downstairs?” She meant the mixed dancing, anyway they started talking and it turned into his shidduch/beshert. – I thought(when I heard the story) wow all the ones who would say why not try it, it’s not disco you have to put in hishtadlus for your shidduch no it turned out the right hishtadlus was keeping shtark and true to your derech.

Hatzlacha to all singles may you find shidduchim hagonim b’karov.

The Torah does mention reward and punishment.

Many times the reward and punishment is for the nation as a whole like in the second paragraph of the Shema or it also is meant as in the next world as in the reward for shiluach haken or cibud av.

I see the mistake as a misunderstanding of the tremendous peace and calm that deep emunah and bitachon can bring to people who would not be expected to be peaceful or calm! Is it really a reward if only good things happen to a person and he is happy as a result? I don’t think this can compare to happiness of a maamin even in the midst of many struggles. Sheva yipol tzadik v’kum.

The thing is to do what it takes to daven like your standing in front of The One and Only Hashem. I believe halacha advises eyes closed or down and siddur as a second alternative if the words won’t come otherwise.

    Apush: What are you suggesting?

A big improvement would result from the public respectfully asking more questions both to Mashgichim, Rabbanei Machshir and business owners. Some examples of questions consumers should be asking are; What are the Mashgiachs duties here? What are his hours? Do you have the phone number of the Rav HaMachshir? How often is he or his representative here? What are your hakpadas?

These questions show the public cares about the kashrus and has an effect on the atmosphere of the place, it helps the mashgiach, and is imo an easy way for anyone to have a zchus of zikui harabbim, but be prepared to follow up if the answers are problematic, by calling the Rav Hamachshir or asking your Rav to call.

Sorry, but we would need a Mordechai to tell us this was an Achashverosh party and chillul H’ lacking that although I did not see it just how do you know it is not a kiddush H’? Have you forgotten or perhaps you are not aware of how badly and deeply our Father in heaven misses the millions of children who are trapped in non jewish mind sets and who this kind of thing just might touch in a good way through the medium they have access to? In Eretz Yisrael Hidabroot has a tv channel that broadcasts 24/6 and results in a spreading of Torah and teshuva, they would like to expand here as well.

There is a range of opinions on the issue of how often a yotzi v’nichnas needs to enter to establish mirsas and if customers at establishments where they are relying on the more makil side inquire they may be able to find out. For instance I found that the difference between o-u and o-u P on a particular canned product was a mashgiach visiting once a month for o-u and a constant presence for 6-8 weeks before Pesach, now which one do you think is less likely to have a mishap?
