It is beyond delicious-from the cake to the layered fillings to the frosting-mmmmmm – actually the whole block smells delicious when they bake their cakes-i have tried to imitate it, it’s just *not*-the other cakes are yum too, but the caramel log is my favorite, and it always goes first- also they sell a 1/2 log which is not too chintzy looking if you only want to spend about 35.

I sometimes wonder if we have forgotten to focus on a person’s positive points. Everybody has times when either their low mood or frustrating day or helpless situations seem to invite challenge in a relationship – the spouse senses a disconnect and in their misunderstanding the disconnect and taking it personally they in turn become frustrated. It is so critical not to let this track take over, with private little ‘if he/she would care about me they would understand….’, etc, and realize that these are normal glitches in any relationship, and warm, smiling feelings and words heal them. I don’t mean to simplify things, but everybody is going to have something that bothers the spouse- we all need a healthy dose of tolerance, blind eye, humor, and mainly a desire to create a bayis ne’eman b’yisroel. When you are on a critical mission you don’t sweat the small stuff as much. Good Luck to all – it is very sad to see so many divorces.

You might want to provide more information- age, etc. –

Contacts are generally more comfortable, more attractive, and you see better than glasses, if you adjust to them well. Glasses never touch your eye and don’t have any threat of infection, and long term usage issues. For me personally, i get a headache from glasses and love my contacts. Good Luck !

It is so nice to see somebody worrying about this – Today’s style seems to be to borrow money without repaying it, and just go merrily along! or get a corrupt toen/bais din to make a settlement where the debt is clear, but they have skilled arguments to refute it. I can’t imagine why they don’t just repay their debts, but people always seem to be able to justify their own actions somehow. I think that if you stole money from people that you can no longer repay, it is an (rabbinically advised) idea to give that money to tzedaka. I do worry about items that come from tzedaka campaigns – am I obligated to pay for the book – even if I didn’t want it, and my budget doesn’t include books. May we all be zoche to possess only OUR things, may we have plenty so that we don’t need to steal (or borrow) !

I think it was very funny-definitely made me smile-

nobody is getting fired – they gave him a slight high five and a smile afterward so it was not a Chillul Hashem at all – many people try to make them laugh- for years and years-it is part of the fun and I am sure the guy did not intend for it to be posted on youtube and circulated to the whole world – but he made a lot of people smile, and he was quite ingratiating, doing it in a very cute unabrasive way-I think he was very clever, and it was so on the spot.

Isn’t the story of Evil Serpent who made Chava eat the apple, Cain killing Abel, Kivshan Ha’Esh, Akeidas Yitzchok, Sodom, Tower of Babel, etc, etc scary? It seems like kids have the ability to develop normally and handle graphic stories on their own levels without lifelong trauma – Don’t lose any sleep over it – go learn, do mitzvos, chesed, and sincere devotion to Hashem..and maybe we will write the greatest story of them all with the coming of Mashiach.

Don’t obsess. You can do teshuva – it is Hashem’s gift to us – feeling like it can’t be so easy and I will never be able to rectify this sin is just self defeating and will get you down. Think of those feelings as rebellion against Hashem’s wonderful gift. Just try to do the mitzvoth with a happy heart, rejoice that you have found the true way back. Pray that Hashem helps you to do true teshuva and that Hashem sends you the opportunity to do Chesed, for Chesed is an antidote to severe punishments. Wishing you all the best.

I think the questions raised here are valid, but this is a poor choice of a place to raise them. You really have no idea of the poster’s breadth of knowledge and background.

You wouldn’t trust a doctor over the internet to diagnose your rash, tumor or whatever – you would want to make sure of their credentials, check their experience, etc.

When it’s this important a subject, I think you need to have confidence that you know who your ‘opinion givers’ are.

pita filled w/tuna salad and Israeli salad

lasagna – long and layered, or lasagna rollups-basically boil lasagna (add salt and a smidgen of oil),drain, layer w/tomato sauce mixture and diff cheeses and bake.

i use the magic mill – it is okay but not amazing – you just have to watch it and balance wet and dry ingredients, which for the price you pay, you kind of figure, it should do everything by itself. I have bought many machines, as that is my wedding present to the nieces and nephews – they all seem to want the Bosch. Last Bosch i got was on overstock for 349.99 which was a great price but i am still looking for stainless bowl which goes for another $100 – hoping for some sale. Good Luck !

breakfast – either hardboiled/scrambled eggs – no fat cottage cheese with salad

    supper – chicken cutlets w/salads chicken/meat etc.

snack on crispy stuff like granny apples/carrot sticks/cantaloupe/pineapple/

There are people who think anybody else’s homemade food is disgusting-I don’t think that the yiddishe derech took those feelings into consideration.

Many people who are very careful in Halacha, insist on giving food that can be eaten by the Seuda, and that only then are you really yotzeh in mishloach manos. I got some challah/kugels that i put on my seuda table – I would never call it disgusting- they were delicious.

It could be that the ‘cement’ cookies were delicious when they were baked, and got unexpectedly hard because the packages were made erev Shabbos, as the motzai shabbos setup was a little challenging – clean up from Shabbos, dress the kids, prepare the seuda and shalach manos…….Don’t be so makpid and calculate your net loss/profit on your shalach manos – it’s meant to generate feelings of comradery and achdus.

You have an interesting take on plays-i think the purpose for the plays originally was to give venue to girls shining in different areas, so if you are not such a good student, you can have other areas to excel…paint/draw/sing/technical skill/acting/creative etc. The intensity of working together/sharing in each other’s successes fosters an atmosphere of togetherness and love that students remember for a long time. If this has progressed to hiring outside professionals for every thing then you really have a point – investing 30000 for a return of about 4500 is definitely not practical, and if you are not having fun and loving it then something has gone wrong. Meantime, if they are doing it, enjoy the experience and best of luck !

thanks for the thread-i always wondered what the best way was- i use the plastic bag/squish method a lot for egg salad, but i don’t find it works so well for tuna (and yes when you are done, you just push it out of the bag). I have found the fastest way for me is take the whole can out so that it is clumped together in the can shape, put on gloves, and using a long knife and holding the whole clump cut the tuna in strips (lengthwise and narrow like an onion),then turn and cut/turn and cut/then go diagonally. It falls apart as you are cutting but that’s ok. Then i use the fork to mash it with mayonnaise if i am eating, or vinegar if i am dieting. Sounds like it takes long, but it’s a one minute thing.

Goq-i see your posts here and there and my heart goes out to you- nobody will ever understand your pain because nobody is you, with your unique makeup and characteristics.

By the same token, every challenge that a person is given is hard for them to handle, and when people see you bound by your challenges, they will offer whatever advice, help, cheerful ‘pick yourself up by your bootstraps’ homilies, etc. that they can.

They are not being mean or cold-they are just not offering you things that you can relate to at that particular time. The same words may not hurt you at a different time.

It is always advisable to try and focus on the positive aspects of your life, try to energize towards the future rather than obsess about the past – not easy to do, but it is a path to a more optimistic outlook, and a happier life.

Even if you had the most horrible challenge ever, worse than the holocaust, worse than dead children, worse than having to collect money on street corners, worse than losing your job, health, money, spouse, etc….you have the ability (somewhere, very deep deep down….) to take your obviously intelligent capabilities and strength and move forward….

Regarding this specific comment about the Holocaust-i personally can’t imagine going through anything more painful than smelling the burning fumes of your children being gassed with no understanding of why or how long the indignities, starvation, and horror would go on, but it doesn’t mean that the fact that people survived it will soothe all your hurt.

May you find the right tools, the right people, the right words, to give you the strength to forge ahead and find great happiness!

Sorry, I disagree. I think it is disrespectful for kids to sit down when there are not enough seats to accomodate kids and adults. I can’t imagine a child sitting at a kiddush table when there is an adult that has to stand. I understand that it would be better if there were enough seats prepared for all the guests, but in the event that there is a shortage, adults should come first.

I understand your beef-i chuckle at the repeat requests to lower their starting number-boy, charity collection has started using real ‘collection tactics’. It is a sign of the times-don’t sweat it, just say firmly, we are sorry we are not in a position to help your organization, you are welcome to send me an envelope. Thank you for your efforts and have a wonderful day-if they interrupt, which they will, just say it again and hang up. You feel bad because you have a yiddishe neshama and you don’t want to mix tzedaka with marketing, but that is what has happened, and you have to politely resort to the same tactics. I seriously think that this could be ‘onaah’ on the part of the organizations because it hurts to have to say you can’t give, so try very hard to avoid feeling hurt or bad.

why is not a question? How long do you hear about THANKSGIVING dinner like it was who knows what kind of a meal – we have that every shabbos, umpteen yomtov meals, simchas b”h. Not hard to understand that a good piece of cake and some rugelach with your cup of coffee is a lot more comforting and delicious than your quinoa strawberry concoction that tastes like glue. Latkes, blintzes, donuts, chulent, flanken, kishke, potatoes are the favored vegetable, and tova ulecha bracha if you find a way to wrap everything in a dough, and fry it mit a bissel shmaltz, etc. etc. etc. It would be a major culrture rewrite, but good luck -would be a great accomplishment!

Standard diet – increase your proteins, decrease your carbs and make them brown instead of white-drink water-exercise every day-just put on the music and do it before anything else.

DO NOT ALLOW SNACKS INTO THE HOUSE -if they are not there you can’t cheat and if you are on this blog, you are probably not so good at the control you need.If you need snacks for your life, get stuff you don’t like.

Stress and busy times-PREPARE- try to have a bowl of sliced cucumbers available-add as little salt as you have to to make it a palatable salty snack for you – if there’s no peeling/slicing available, get sliced pickles. Prepare some plain tuna with some vinegar (or pickles) it will give you something to grab, Chicken cutlets cut into strips and prepared with hot pepper/mustard/cayenne/cajun whatever you like is a very delicious grab food- you can put a bunch into a baggie and bring it with you-it doesn’t taste bad cold either, etc.etc.etc.

Whenever you are hungry, start with a bottle of water.

Psych yourself up-don’t take the first bite of that because one bite always leads to the next, to the finish the bar/bag and i’ll start tomorrow-do it for the mitzvah, say it, i am skipping this yummy slice of cake for you Hashem-do it for your family,do it for you, whatever gets you going-we all need our health and the looks is a nice bonus-make little rules-like don’t eat in public, don’t eat after 8:00, keep a diary-like the man said – it’s all commentary!

I went through this a long time ago-it was a very serious relationship and i was totally involved. When it was over i really felt like my life was over-i know that sounds dramatic but that is the way i felt-i wallowed and obsessed-it was terribly painful-everybody was telling me to move on, and that i will grow-and forget etc, and they were all true, but i had to be ready to listen and internalize all the lessons, it’s not like i didn’t know they were right, it just had to come from me and in the right time-so keep on trying to work your way up to being able to deal, don’t beat yourself up for a bad day here and there, eventually you will be ready for tricks like ‘change the tape- don’t let yourself think about it, if it comes to mind just have 10 scenes ready that you can substitute. read the books that are out there like Trust Me, and you will see that u will have s’yatta d’shmaya and forge ahead. It will also help your tefillos as you will know what it felt like to be bent, imprisoned, and desperate, and you will thank Hashem for helping you to overcome. You should also try to be practical and accept the reality that you have to meet someone else, and the best way to be a desirable shidduch, is by being b’simcha and showing a warm and together picture to the world. This is a good motivation to help you show control, and acting in control is strong motivation for being in control. I wish you the best and may you find your true zivug b’karov.

i listened to the clips and was pretty horrified. i am sure that the only compatibility in her new relationship, is his agreeing with her anger at the community- to say that everybody- in monroe, lakewood, williamsburg, boro park etc, was forced to marry at 17 so that they would be tied down with kids before they had the maturity to realize that they didn’t want that type of life/spouse, is such a blatant lie that it is shocking that they have the stupidity to say it. and that 1000’s of his friends would divorce their wives, except that then they would lose their kids – what are they thinking? it’s really sad – here she is such a beautiful girl, has four children, should be happy and fulfilled and throwing it all away for a minute in the spotlight- if she really loved her children, she would not be going public – rather trying her best to shield them and their futures. oy we need mashiach.
