Why do you assume it’s an anti-computer event. I was under the impression that it is somewhat “pro-computers” – when used properly, and this event is supposed to teach us how to use it properly (filters, shmira, proper chinuch, etc).

I’ve seen a number of statements from R’ Matisyahu were he said that if he could make an effective ban of the internet he would. Even though this isn’t the goal of the asifa, it isn’t embracing the technology, just tolerating it.

No. Posting the lyrics would be a copyright violation. (Although singing them isn’t)

It must be a slow day at the NY Post. This trojan is over 2 years old and isn’t much worse than alot of more current viruses. Just because a journalist gets a virus doesn’t make it significant.

And if for whatever reason its not for women, should they change that for the relatively minor group of single mothers ?

But should they exclude women just to add a few more names of supporting rabonim? If the asifa is so important they should just tell those rabonim to edited.

So, let’s say, if some recording artist at, let’s say, Jewish Music, Inc., by the name of, let’s say, JJJ, uses a Carlbach tune without permission, as his own, and now Jewish Music, Inc. says it’s assur to copy; that’s ok? (All names are made up).

JJJ (or Jewish Music, Inc.) is required to get a mechanical license from whoever owns the Carlebach portfolio. JJJ (or Jewish Music, Inc.) owns the copyright for the new recording.

Mechanical licenses are mandatory so whoever own the Carlebach portfolio cannot deny it to JJJ. Going a step further you can get a mandatory mechanical licence for any publicly released music. (Even music that was just released.)

    2. Its a small inconvenience affecting a small number of people.

It doesn’t matter. A resident of Sunset Park who wishes to travel to Midwood has a legaly recognized interest in the streets of Borough Park. Just like a resident of Borough Park who whishes to travel to Manhatten has an interest in the streets of Kensington.

The Jewish calendar is not accurate for long term calculations. The rules that the sanhedrin were using were designed to validate witnesses and determine dates in the absence of witnesses. Also the two foundations of the calendar were known far before Hillel, Thales knew the length of the month accurately enough to predict an eclipse and Meton established a calendar with a 19 year cycle.

So far I don’t have any information on it other than the date and location. I don’t read much printed material so I may have missed some information but the last advertisement I saw didn’t give me any more information than the first announcement did. (And the only contact information was a mailing address.)

so who oversees the financial and accounting on the township level?

The Office of the New Jersey State Comptroller is an independent office created to bring greater efficiency and transparency to the operation of all levels of New Jersey’s government.

The office audits government finances, reviews the performance of government programs and examines government contracts. It is responsible for conducting audits of the executive branch of state government, public institutions of higher education, independent state authorities and local governments and boards of education. The office also is responsible for the oversight of Medicaid funds and acts to detect and recover funds that are improperly expended.

I eat gebrochts, but I totally get why the hotels do not serve them. If you have a guest who is a diabetic, if you make non-sweet, tasty low-carb food for the meal, everyone can safely eat and enjoy it. But if you make sweet-sauced foods, and other stuff that is sugary, the guest cannot partake. So yes, even though it might seem like catering to the diet of a minority of people, nevertheless you, the, knaidel-eater, can still eat ALL the food that is being prepared and served in the non-gebrochts hotel, whereas the reverse would not be true for the gebrochts-only consumer.

If the hotels only served diabetic foods, I’d accept your analogy.

With regard to mei peiros, there are people who do eat matzos with foods made with mei peiros but no water. Charoses is an example of the latter.

But wine is one of the “7 liquids” so it is more like water than fruit juice.

Regarding your third point lets take a hypothetical lottery where the chances for a $50,000,000 jackpot are 1:100,000,000. Most lottery players would treat the EV as $.50 (actualy most lottery players are too stupid to know what an EV is). However, if they actually had $50,000,000 it would be worth less to them so the EV really should be computed against what the perceived value of the jackpot would be if they actually had that much money. I’ll get back to you on how to calculate “perceived value” as one cannot just go to a billionaire and ask him how much $50,000,000 is worth.

Your numbers are wrong but more importantly the order doesn’t matter so we’re dealing with combinations rather than permutations.

The first 5 balls are from a pool of 56 and the last is from a pool of 46.

Your math is wrong. The odds for Mega Millios is 1/(C(56,5)*46) or 1:175,711,536 making a positive expected value (ignoring shared jackpots) a common occurance.

Any filter can be defeated by a user with administrative access to a PC. For some people, physical access is as good as administrative access. The best filtering is through a gateway that the users do not have physical access to.

I don’t know what you mean by “raffle mailings”. It is illegal to send raffle tickets through the USPS regardless of what rate class you are using. Oorah sends numerous mailings throughout the year and apparently someone there figured out that it is cheaper to use periodical rates than non-profit rates.

Bochurim didn’t go into groceries etc.

The fact that someone can’t go to a grocery is more of an indication that they’re doing something wrong than that they’re doing something right.

I originally wrote a better response but I edited it because I didn’t think the mods would let it through.
