☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
that comment was uncharacteristically rude and sarcastic
Some would disagree with you.
They would say it’s not uncharacteristic.
music and being frum are not mutually exclusive
Of course not. Even watching inappropriate movies isn’t (for that matter, eating treif l’tayavon isn’t either), but why is anyone minimizing the issur?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTrue. Shabbos and kashrus aren’t yehareg v’al ya’avor; movies are.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYeah, I know a guy who would have been frum, except that he had a hard time with Shabbos and kashrus.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree that we’ve been desensitized, but it’s not totally gone.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDebatable. If it were so embarrassing, people wouldn’t do it L’chatchila.
Even if you are correct, who says there are not other benefits that outweigh the idea of being self sufficient?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGamzu, what “little bit of foresight” could have prevented this?

Maskim.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAre they enrolled for full day or half day?
According to an online Hamodia article published a year ago, they were trying to move from half day to full day.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Pet peeve of mine. That’s just a way of saying, “Even if you help me, I won’t be bothered to acknowledge it with a simple thank you”. 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou can put it here: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/popa_bar_abba/favorites
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo popa’s comparing yellow taxis to Uber X, and Charlie’s comparing livery cabs to Uber Black. Surprise, surprise, they’re getting different results.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat about livery cabs? I think they’re cheaper than yellow cabs.

☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlthough, checking Uber’s own rules, it’s unnecessary, so those drivers are wrong.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantthat the tip is included in the Uber pricing
Not according to some Uber drivers.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s also important to factor in when they were called. The comparitive prices might be different at high or low demand times.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThis all might depend on location. Charlie, I think you said you live in the Bronx, and popa says he lives in an igloo, and tina18 is referring to Brooklyn.

February 16, 2015 12:45 am at 12:45 am in reply to: shidduchim: what's all this about middos? #1093686☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI could be wrong, but I read it as cynical to those who deem those issues too important.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf someone was in yeshiva (post mesivta) for three years, that generally means he left at about 20-21, no?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThen why did you define him as a learner/earner? I’m confused.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYour words: left yeshiva after mesifta and went to college and then work, while learner earner may be in yeshiva 2-3 years before embarking on path to earn a living
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t think a bochur who left yeshiva at 20-21 and is now working or in school full time and has an hour seder at night is typically called a learner/earner.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere’s lots of gray area, but I think the girls looking for a “learner/earner” want someone who spends six-eight hours a day learning at the same level as a typical full time yeshiva/kollel fellow.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFlatbusher, which comments were you responding to?
Lior, I think you are confusing working boys with learner/earners.
February 15, 2015 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm in reply to: shidduchim: what's all this about middos? #1093682☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMethinks SDD’s post is being taken too seriously.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, I think you are confusing working boys with learner/earners. Most learners aren’t earners, and most earners aren’t learners.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLior, there are 219, and 752 girls looking to marry them.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFlatbusher, you started asking about the availability of shadchanim, and veered off into an anti long term kollel opinion. There are plenty of other threads for that.

February 15, 2015 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm in reply to: How Much Below the Knee Should a Skirt be? #1059931☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI lost you there.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFlatbusher, what’s your point?
Lior, there’s no study, and no clear cut definition of a serious learner.
February 15, 2015 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: How Much Below the Knee Should a Skirt be? #1059929☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you have a source?
Sure, there’s always Rachamono liba boi, but I’m not sure how that affects the actual aveirah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFlatbusher, there will always be some people who take unfair advantage of any “system”. That’s why it’s important for a girl or her family/friends to do research.
I don’t think the perception that a boy isn’t serious if his plan is to learn for two-three years is based on any inherent truth, it’s just that the reality today is that if a boy wants to learn for five-ten, he usually can, so someone who is serious about his learning usually will plan for that.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLior: No, not necessarily.
I don’t define serious based on number of years, but the number of year is still correlated with seriousness.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantregardless of your or my hashkafah on this
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLet’s see what they’re looking for two years back from seminary (those who aren’t married).
Fact is, regardless of your or my hashkafah on this, if a boy is serious about his learning, he likely is planning to learn full time for more than 2-3 years, so they’re probably right, if they really want serious learners, to look in that direction.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo you’re suggesting that there are relatively few learner/earners and girls looking for them.
I actually think there are few learner/earners, but a lot of girls looking for one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy is that easier?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy do you think this is so? If they were easy to find and set up, why wouldn’t they?
