If anyone really wants to check the weather, I recommend weather.com (NOT accuwearher), especially their hour by hour report. They’re very almost never wrong.

    For Firefox users:

    F1: Help

    F11: Full Screen

    F5: Reload page

And the grand finale, possibly the most useful keyboard shortcuts for us YWN posters:

F3: Search the entire web page for any text (name of poster, keyword, etc.) The only problem with this is that it will only find the first time this text is used.

Yeah curious, great idea! Anyone want to do this incredible mitzvah? And if someone does, do we have the promises of the YWN Moderators/Editor it’ll be made sticky?

yashrus20 and xerox, the YWN moderators do indeed do a great job preventing lashon hara/motzei shaim ra from being posted on this site. But if even one post with lashon hara CH”V gets past them, there can be more issurai diuyraysa violated than in almost any other singular act. When millions of issurai diuyraysa are at stake, one cannot stress the need for shmiras halashon too much.

Im, if you are using Morzilla Firfox, hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard while scrolling down with the scroll wheel on your mouse. This will make the text on all open Firefox windows bigger, and you can keep doing it until you like the text size.

Thank you abcd1234 for bringing up this important issue. And I second the petition for the moderators to please crackdown on all the lashon hara/motzei shaim ra that is unfortunately still found throughout YWN. Just keep in mind: for each word of lashon hara said, one can CH”V get up to 32 ISSURAI DIURAYSSA, times the amount of words posted, times the amount of people that read the post, times the amount of people the post is going on (all yeshivish/modern people, all people who live in ________ or think ______ or support _______…). Even if you plug conservative numbers into this formula, you can CH”V end up with THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF ISSURAI DIURAYSSA. By comparison, this is like being michalel every shabbos you’ve ever lived through, or eating a pork sandwich every day for years. And if one CH”V posts several long, well-read posts on large groups of fellow yidden, it can add up to literally MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF ISSURAI DIURAYSSA. Who can afford this on their cheshbin?

yes, I’ve been checking it for a couple of weeks now. it’s rather poorly organized (articles on the same subject can be on different sides of the site) and highly, highly opinionated, but it’s got a decent selection of news.

000646, you raise a very valid point. If you buy your kid a cell phone all texting and internet access will show up on the monthly bill. If not, a teenager can simply walk into WalMart and buy a pre-paid phone, call, text, and email whoever he/she wants, and go wherever they want online. I’d choose choice A any day of the week.

brooklyn19, I’m not talking about fifth graders. Also, I’ve never heard of a way to block anything from appearing on the monthly bill, and I’d assume that most teenagers wouldn’t sacrifice their phones for a few days of internet access.

    ujm, any extreme is dangerous.

brooklyn19, tell your child that your watching his/her phone, and check it every month. Chances are that, if you tell your child that you’re watching, they won’t try anything so as not to lose their phone.

ujm, if you keep your kid too restricted, and he’ll break out and do anything and everything he wants to. I’ve heard too many of those stories. Better to give him a cell phone, and keep close watch.

halavai, you said it. On every cell phone bill it will show all texts, internet, downloads, etc. With just a little reading, you can figure out exactly what your kid is up to.

And azi, what you’re saying is all too true. keep your kid too restricted, and he’ll break out and do anything and everything he wants to. I’ve heard too many of those stories. Better to give him a cell phone, and keep close watch.

while in theory i’d agree with joseph that the younger, the better, this is only when the boy/girl is totally mature, knows what to look for, has real plans for when after they get married, etc, etc, etc. seeing as most young people today don’t fit all (or any!) of the criteria, i’d agree with lesschumras. besides, people can change alot from 18 to 21, and you want to know what you’re getting.

Even if there is a heter for a girl to learn gemera in private, wouldn’t a date be considered public?

And back to the great point brought up by intelligent in post #3, I think the girl’s parents being too midayaik in how the boy learns is MUCH more of a problem. Shouldn’t you care about the MIDDOS of the boy that your daughter may spend the rest of her life with ?!

As the too-true line goes, are you looking for a husband for your daughter, or a chavrusa?!

What farrakhan says is truly scary, as Will Hill put it, but Obama is in no way connected to farrakhan. Obama’s pastor, wright has awarded farrakhan with some sort of lifetime achievement award, but I have yet to hear of Obama even meeting this man. Like illini07 said, that’s like blaming McCain for what the KKK says. I’d be more worried about wright, but even he was just nuts and, as far as I know, doesn’t have any position on real issues. My only problems with Obama are his policies (although I must admit that his Hamas endorsement scared me, because they obviously hold he’s better for them).

sammyjoe, can you not tell the difference between a N and a M? I didn’t think you were that stupid. And now Rudy’s my “hero”? And Sean Hanitty is my “playbook”? Wow, do you know how to make stuff up. Like the spellings of thosse, Additionaly, mitagated, therefor, isssues, differece, goverment, fiscaly, socialy, and conserative. Put that together with your warped sense of grammar, “ha ha ha”s, and smiling/frowning faces, and you get something that barley resembles English. And what you write is even more absurd than the language you use to write it, and that is truly impressive. No one will benefit from universal, government-run healthcare, as this will force some to waste money on too much protection, while others won’t be protected enough.

gmab, a heard a story that a great rabbi (I believe it was about the Vilna Goan, but I’m not sure) wouldn’t eat olives because the gemara says they make you forget, but once a year he’d purposely eat olives to show that he’s not not using something that Hashem put in this world. Similarly, another, more recent great rabbi (I believe it was Rav Palm, but again no guarantees) said it’s an inyun to see the swiss alps, because Hashem only put them there for us to get pleasure from. So, gmab, what will you say after 120 when Hashem asks you “gmab, why didn’t you eat the tasty, juicy steak that I gave you to enjoy?”

And Chopnik, Obama let slip in Florda that he’d raise taxes taxes for people making as little as $150 grand. jf02, I’m saying we jews need our money, and having it taken away to help “spread the wealth” won’t make things any easier, especialy for those suffering because of the current economic downturn

sammyjoe, I don’t see you debating “with facts or figures”. And how am I “practice demagoguery, spewing hate” by saying Bush wouldn’t bomb me?! And Obama said he’ll raise taxes on those making as little as $150 grand a year, after tution, masser, mortgage, etc. do you think everyone can afford to give more to Obama’s government-controlled healthcare?! And why on earth do you think that “All you yeshiva guys are brainwashed… you survive due to th rachmunis of the (scary music…) LIBERALS!”?! And are you really saying that a party that supports toevah marriages, killing children, etc. is “more toradig” because they want to “spread the wealth”?!
