I apologise Torah Mom. couldn’t be bothered reading the whole thread.

in reply to: High school girls with Internet access #1044018

yes, girls have internet access but just because they are posting on YWN doesn’t mean they have internet access. It means that they are currently online. maybe their parent is supervising? maybe they don’t have a filter that only allows access to very few websites?

Another point is that you can’t keep your daughter sheltered forever. My parents do not shelter me or my siblings. They allow me to watch movies, have a drink, have an iPhone, internet etc. On the other hand, there is to internet on my phone. I can’t go to the theatre or cinema. I only watch parent approved movies. Girls in my class are watching movies without their parents knowing what they are doing. I don’t feel the need to go behind my parents back because they allow me to do so many things. Of course not everyone is going to agree with this style of parenting, but I find that i am not tempted to look up bad things because they have placed trust in me and i don’t want to break that. They allow me to wears denim skirts. While many girls in my school don’t always ensure that their knees are covered, i do. Why? I don’t feel the desire to go against my parents as they allow me to do so many other things.

    I hope this helps!

in reply to: Any weird mouse stories? #998740

my story is about a possum.

There was this horrible smell in our school for months!!! lone could figure out where it was coming from. One day we were doing a project so we decided to take a box from the hallway that noone had touched for years. We took one and felt that it was full so e opened the box to empty it. 3 things happened.

    1. We shrieked for about 10 mins nonstop.

    2. We passed out from the HORRIBLE smell!!!

    3. we chucked the box across the hallway.

I will never touch anything in my school that hasn’t been used for a while now.

in reply to: Are sons more desirable than daughters? #984266

im not married and i dont have any kids, but in every story about a childless couple the ending is so predictable. They went to a rabbi, got a blessing and exactly one year later they had a ….. BOY!!!!

so the answer is yes. boys are more desirable than girls.

keep it coming. are you going to keser chaya or you have been?

in reply to: Information on Meohr and Seminar #982037

do you have any sort of idea where you want to go? Like where are girls in your class talking about?

    in reply to: Magic #982518

there is a passuk that when you add the word up or down in lashon hakodesh, is assur to say. It makes whatever you aare reffering to go up or down. Someone i know did it in yeshiva. they made a table move.

Also, if you dont talk on Shavous night, you get ruach hakodesh for the year. – not really magic but still cool!

in reply to: Internet Abuse #982079

fkelly- not everyone needs all those programs. I for example know of someone who was using the internet inappropriately for a year- nothing too serious coz he was 13 but he made a pen name on a dating website just for fun and was watching youtube videos even though he wasnt allowed any internet access whatsover. His parents found out and confiscated the computer for about 1 month. Then they gave it back with a new internet password. he now has internet on his computer but he says he would never do what he did again because he was so scared when he was 13 because he wasnt able to control himself and stop the desire. Baruch Hashem he was never Mechallel Shabbos. He now goes on youtube occasionally, and uses internet daily but his parents are okay with this because they are quite modern. They constantly check his history, although now it is less often because they see that he can know be trusted. He learnt the hard way but now he is on the right path again. Basically, he didnt go through one of these programs, he just had mentoring from his parents. of course he had to go through a big speech before he could get his laptop back but he says that he is happy that his parents caught him when they did or else it might have been too late!

in reply to: Information on Meohr and Seminar #982035

    1. i know nothing about meohr

    2. Seminar sounds alot like 13th grade. not too hard. If you come late after curfew or you miss class, you have to sit detention. hammocks, a library, nice dorms.

    3. Keser Chaya. I’m looking into it quite strongly so I might meet you there!

All of them are quite chilled-academic wise, with keser chaya being the easiest.

BTW: I’ve never been to seminary so this is just from what I’ve heard. Hope it’s all correct!!!

in reply to: Yichud Gift for Kallah #1037888

walton, I’m kind of a tomboy, and although I dont know this guys Kallah, it doesnt mean love watching sports even though I do. It means that you dont care about jewellery, and you dont spend hours in the mirrow, amd you dont love the colour pink. Basically it means really not girly.

in reply to: Molested Children #1074997

    Dear Broken Parents,

I thin you are very smart to be dealing with this. You need to offer him compassion and care even when it doesn’t relate to this situation. This incident will constantly be in the back of his mind so its important to always show him some love. I really respect you for dealing with this but I feel, without judging you, that you should’ve taken this into your hands sooner if you knew about this for seven years. I don’t know. maybe you did? There was a girl in our community who was molested and has now completely gone off the derech. Your son needs urgent help-NOW!

havent read them all so i hope these werent written:

    1. we cant spell success without u!

    2. the best medicine for gaining a friend is B1.

in reply to: Chassidush school in Brooklyn bans thick glasses #953286

i go to a very yeshivish school where they also ban alot of stupid things eg: wearing your jumper around your waist, white sneakers etc. they also cross out every time it says the words TV or internet or email. this is what we remember because so much stress has been put on it. i don’t even remember what the article was about i just remember seeing the word television changed to magazine.

if they wouldn’t put so much stress on these glasses, it would pass but because they are noticing it, boys will especially get them.

i have thick black glasses and i got them 2 1/2 years ago coz i liked them. absolutely nothing got to do with fashion. why do you think these boys are into fashion? maybe it’s all they could find within their budget? you have to be dan l’kaf z’chus.
