One day the Duchess of Bialy woke up and decided that more than anything in the world, she wanted to be a cauliflower. She went to the royal witch and said “turn me into a cauliflower!”. The witch, who understood this deep need to be a cauliflower, nodded solemnly and said she would do it, but that the Duchess should know once she was transformed there was no returning to human form.

“That’s fine by me!” said the Duchess..for she really truly wanted to be a cauliflower.

There was a poof! and the Duchess was changed.

One day this cauliflower is walking down the street and sees a young boy standing in the middle of the road and he is completely oblivious to a giant truck speeding right towards him. The cauliflower leaps to the boy’s rescue, scoops him up, deposits him safely next to his panicked mother, and then runs away.

The boy looks up at his mother in shock and awe and asks “Mom, who was that?!”

“Don’t you know my son?” she replied, “That was super cauliflower ex-Bialy Duchess”.

LoIbud:when has jewish frum advertizing ever used “use inappropriate messages or pictures”?

many magazines dont allow pictures of women, no matter how modestly they are dressed, and as far as i have seen, in the ones that do contain pictures of women, the women are always dressed (and “act”) tzniusly.

but then again, i might just have not seen the ads that you are referring too.

such a major undertaking such as this requires step by step guidance by a rebbi.

talk to your rebbi b4 opening the blog to see what he has to say.

show to your rebbi each shtickle that you are mechadesh b4 you post it online.

ask your rebbi if he can give a haskama or the like, which you can post as the first post on your blog.

    etc. for evreything

hazlacha raba and may you be zoche to be marbitz true pshat in R’ chaim to the world

YC: it should be noted that seemingly according to the gemara above, your post only applies if said person has an urge to say LH.

i understand, given your name, that you probably did not read that gemara, so i will try to provide an explanation.

the gemara brings down a brissa (a tannaic saying, from the same time as the mishna) that says that if one “sits and doesn’t do an averia, we give him scar as if he did a mitzva”. the gemara then clarifies that the brissa only applies where “an averia came to his hand, and he was saved from it”

rashi: this “sitting and not doing an averia, we give him scar as if he did a mitzva” that we said, is when (an averia) came to his hand, and he denied his YH, and he didnt do the averia. there is no mitzva greater than this.

Conversely, it is sin to eat nonkosher food, is it a mitzva to not eat nonkosher food? (yes, because it is a mitzva to not sin)

It is a sin to speak Loshon Hora, is it a mitzva to not speak Loshon Hora? (ibid)

i know CA already pointed this out, but i just learned this gemara over shabbos and had to share it

i also found it fascinating that rashi sys “there is no mitzva greater than this (resisting the YH)”

amazing! to resist the YH is greater than any mitzva!

the shem mi’shmuel has a yesod that pesach night is b’chinas geyrus, i.e. rededicating your connection to HAshem. with this he explains why chomez is only assur on pesach, and not the whole year, (since we know that chomez represents the yezer hara etc.). he says that since we are becoming “geyrim” on peysach we need our foundations to be purer than the we would the rest of the year.

with this yesod we can also answer this question. normally, we would draw in the rasha, and try to be mekarev him. but on the seder night we need our foundations to be pure, and we cant stand even a bit of his kefira, so we knock out his teeth and shut him down.

I would love to see the anti-smartphone leadership deal with real issues that are harming people, like; domestic abuse, child abuse, molestation’s, etc. That, they sweep under the rug and the fact that molestation’s do drive people off the derech doesn’t seem to matter to them, just the phone is the cause of all the world’s ills.

while it is true that these issues are very important, the internet issue is much more prevalent than any of these other issues. i dont think people realize how many kids are “caught” today.

as sirvoddmort said “Unfettered Internet is probably the greatest danger facing Torah Jewry today”

BarryLS1, newbee: im not accusing anybody, i assume that everyone who has a smartphone has legitimate reason to, knows its dangers, and a legitimate filter (and preferably a reporting program).

but for those who dont understand why a smartphone is dangerous, and why some people dont want others (especially kids) to have one, and why a smartphone is worse than a computer, im here to explain.

i have also heard that davening (obviously) makes you have a closer connection with HAsehm. and now that you have a closer connection to HAshem, you are a different person. therefore, what was best for you b4 you davened istnt what is now best for now that you have davened. instead, their is a diffrent thing that is best for you.

in other words, the act of teffila changes what is best for you, and therefore, by definition, what HAshem does for you.

(e.g. if tzaros were supposed to happen to you to make you closer to HAshem, or to give you a kapara, but then since you accomplished that same thing by teffila, the zaros are unnecessary)

however, this does not explain davening for others, whom are not brought closer to HAshem by your teffilos (as far as i now know)
