    Why aren’t I a member? I’m so confused…. An update after. Like 10 years…. Wow

in reply to: It is the same tune!!! #1225981

Wow Mrs. Plony. But that song came out 2 years ago so obviously the guy must of been Jewish or something..lol

in reply to: Okay so I get the purpose here but… #1225718

I’m not talking about college or learning. I’m talking about other things, like honing in your artistic abilities, going to classes to write better, or someone spending time trying to improve their social skills. I feel like in the secular world such things are celebrated, and in the charedi world it’s considered independant of your avodas hashem and a waste of time.

    Like WHAT?

    Miracle Ride

    Dancing in the Dark

The Betrayal, the outcast, (Isterak, Mehalelail)

    Deep Blue

    On switchblades and skullcaps

Don’t know any more decent books to list unfortunately. It’s so sad.

in reply to: 2 questions for the CR community #1224591

    updateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

So according to my teacher a chilul Hashem is actually very complex and complicated. She went to a few rabanim and they could not define what it constitutes in a sentance.

The basic idea is that we represent Hashem. Anything to make people think negativity about Hashem is a chilul Hashem. (If you are following halacha and bein adam lichavero properly, then this is not applicable just as if a parent tells you to do something against halacha you do not listen) This includes both Jews and non Jews. If you have a specific scenario or situation where you need guidance at to if it will bring honor or dishonor to Hashem’s name, ask your LOR.

Meaning they had to say goodbye to not getting a guy who didn’t come with “issues”

in reply to: Friends in different grades #1219562

Sounds like high school age. I think it really depends on the school. In our school it was very normal to have friends in older and younger grades, girls just being friends or acting like a big sister or mentor. If it’s regarding as COMPLETELY socially off in your school, perhaps you should rethink the relationships.

in reply to: Shidduchim for those with a past #1220283

Health, I know of girls who can’t get a regular guy.

in reply to: Shidduchim for those with a past #1220261

It’s so interesting you find it hard to date. I hear the opposing side, girls claim that they make one mistake in 10th grade and everything is over. Boys on the other hand can shape up after being who knows where and within a year or 2 will be accepted easily.

in reply to: What I learned from the Turx Controversy #1219489

Perhaps it was a normal question, but why did everyone have to blow it up? Even the AMI made a huge riduculous dramatic story retelling.

in reply to: Moderation Memo Re: Post Length #1218901

Ok now I see the clipped stuff… but weve never had this problem before? Sounds a bit extreme. Weve had people write PAGES of stuff and that was a problem, but the posts I see look long but not insanely long. Why is this suddenly a big deal now?

in reply to: How do people afford apartments in Israel? #1218525

WTP: I’m going into shidduchim soon, and my parents make just enough to get by, we are renting our apartment. The only way to pay for an apartment would be by fundraising, collecting, etc. I’m not sure that’s happening.

I hear the way you explain the system, and I don’t think that system is entirely used by everyone nowadays. I think it’s mainly israeli’s in the merkaz area. Even the american israeli’s don’t use that system, in turn I hear they pay for the first year or 2 in rent and expenses so the couple can save up for a down payment. There are many other ways they do it.

I also believe that more and more of the israelis are seeing this isn’t possible and are not determining their shidduchim on this. Besides for the fact I’m know the sefardim and chasidim do not use this way either. So in reality, the majority of frum jews are not using this system currently.

in reply to: Why are jewish chat rooms considered appropriate #1218540

1st of all, this is called a forum. This is a completely different layout, experience, and halachic sheila to a chat room. The title of the thread should be changed to reflect that.

A chat room would definitely be assur. 100 percent.

Besides for the fact that there is no to pm anyone or contact them in any way. It is moderated, safe, healthy… etc.

in reply to: Is Bubble Gum Tznius? #1217344

Its assur on shabbos. When else do you have gum?

in reply to: How do people afford apartments in Israel? #1218511

Assurnet- there was a huge article in the Hamodia’s “That’s an idea” section explaining a smart way to save up. It was so smart I couldn’t follow it! lol. I suggest you emailing them asking for it exactly. It was very long and detailed.

in reply to: Tznius Shopping at the Shook #1217370

Kiki Riki- extremely tight…not so tzniyus.

Modasty-pretty good, but fades and gets ruined after a while. I hear the newer ones are better though

Basic you- Not worth every day shells, if you need a specific color for one shirt they are super cheap. But extremely junky. I’ve seen worse though.

Most chains stores also have in the back. Those are really good quality but expensive and you need to carefully see if they are tzniyus. But then again, just cuz its a frum store doesn’t mean its tzniyus either 🙂

Stardust is a company sold in many shuk type stores. Shells are between 30-60 depeding on the store and from my expirience they are even MORE comfortable than Modasty and last longer.

in reply to: 2 questions for the CR community #1224559

Well I in fact wanted to ask her anyway for her sources because this whole situation got my interested in the real definition of a chilul hashem. So I guess it’s too late.

DY: I will try to find out…if I can. I am scared that if I ask she might realize it’s me, like I said the post was printed out from this year (not a few years ago) since the time stamps match the ones online. So for all I know she might have come back to get some more stuff. I don’t know. But I will see what I can do. Maybe I’ll wait a while…

in reply to: Jewish Music Sometimes Rubs Me the Wrong Way #1216791

flatbusher- You make a lot of sense, I know there is kedusha to that. And I immediately thought about someone who was niftar when after the 200th time I heard the song I actually figured out the words, which does add to your point that such songs re only made for this generation and we don’t even know what we are listening to.

But hey, it works for them. They make money. I don’t know if it’s proper or not…

in reply to: 2 questions for the CR community #1224547

LuL: I’m passed that. I was taught that lesson years ago here by a special poster…not sure who it was. But yeah.

in reply to: 2 questions for the CR community #1224544

LU: Oh she also had what to say about DY’s username. She loves his the most. Don’t remember what since I bashed it outta my head 🙂

LF: Nope, you were not chosen. Maybe next time 🙂 Myabe she’ll print this one out hahahahaha. I wonder how many sem girls went on here just to find that thread and found THIS thread instead. Lol. I mean she teaches in 5-7 sems, I’m positive this class went around a few more, bigger seminaries. I guess we won’t know till a girl from one comments. Or I ask her what other sems she teaches in.

I love my seminary, like I said-some things are extreme, but I don’t follow blindly nor do I blindly hear one extreme thing and tune a teacher out. I try to take things and hear everyone’s opinion and see what I want for myself. So it’s nice having such extreme teachers, you learn from their way of life and can actually learn so much from them and their outlook-even if you don’t want to mirror it action for action, yourself. Hear what I’m saying? My seminary is a well known seminary and if I told you which one it was, and who the principal was-you would realize that. He’s very well known and has been in chinuch for like 20 years.

LU-I hope you aren’t offended. I’m just saying what she said.

in reply to: 2 questions for the CR community #1224530

Joseph- I’m happy for you. May you only share and grow your fame with others.

RebYidd- not sure. It’s an old thread, but it was printed out this year since the time marks on her page match the ones on the CR.

Lightbrite- agreed, but some people are just stupid apparently. She may find out lol…but she teaches in many seminaries. If only the moderaters could delete the world local from my subtitle…it leaves little room for guesswork, as very few seminaries accept local girls. (Hint, hint)

DY: Mocking all of it. Although she went a bit extreme here, she is one of my favorite teachers and does ussually make a valid point about things, albeit an extreme one. I don’t take everything she says as face value, but I learn a lot from the discussions and things she says. She ussually makes valid, real points with much backing them up.

I think she was a bit dramatic, but she was pretty funny. Again I think myself she took it way to seriously, but she made a whole bunch of jokes about the CR. Her introduction was: “There’s this place online, I’m not sure if you heard of it,it’s called the Yeshiva World News. Anyway, not that their news is kosher, but there’s a place called a coffee room, where anonymous strangers can “chat” with each other and discuss all the crises of the Jewish community and blame everyone without doing anything, besides the fact that the majority of the people are definitely not yeshivish”

And I was just sitting there and I was like…this class is going to be interesting!

    Anyway- here’s is the thread:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/chillul-hashem#post-232040

    And here are the comments:

    His Royal Lowness

    Joseph

The biggest kind of chillul Hashem is when a Yid does something wrong in front of Yidden. In front of goyim is also wrong, but not as big a chillul Hashem as when by Yidden.

That is completely wrong. This person obviously knows nothing about these halachot. And his royal lowness? What does that even mean?

    DaasYochid

Chilul Hashem is for yidden, and probably for others as well. (This is what I’ve heard; if anyone has a source which either agrees or disagrees, please let me know.)

If something is proper according to halacha (not just acceptable, but demanded by halacha), then it is a kiddush Hashem, even if it angers people. (This is pashut – think bris milah in communist Russia, R’ Akiva teaching Torah, etc.)

Okay, so basically you don’t even have an opinion. “Let me know if you agree or disagree”. There’s halachot. It’s not an opinion! What do you mean probably for others? It’s only you know, a matter of getting stoned or not. No big deal. It’s probably okay. It’s proabably muttar. It’s like saying, this probably isn’t breaking shabbos, not big deal. I don’t need to like ask a Rav or anything cuz it’s probably ok.

    tro11

    Brother of tro22

Chillul Hashem is applicable to a trait or action exhibited only by a large number of Jews. Chillul Hashem as most Jews view it, is more accurately a manifestation of Anti-Semitism…..

Trolls obviously do not understand halachot either. Can a single person make a chilul hashem? (She asked us, and we all replied in unison: “yes!”)

    m in Israel

    Member

I haven’t learned the Rambam recently, and the concept is complex, but from my memory, this is how I understand it: ………

Your memory is fuzzy, you haven’t learned it recently, the halacha is complex, the ramifications are horrendous and you are trying to pasken?! Just say, ask a RAV!

    chayav inish livisumay

    One Tipsy Poster

whenever you hasve the chance to make a kiddush Hashem grab at it cuz it gets rid of a chillul Hashem (thats the only way to get rid of it)

That’s not true either. If you are drunk you should not be paskening either, especially with a username like that.

None of these are MY comments. They are all commentary of my teacher.

in reply to: What happened to DaMoshe? #1215366
