Facebook is not a good place for any singles! Whatever you put on the Web stays there forever!

Just because they’re good kids does not mean they can’t be dragged into Shmutz!

My daughter was in shidduchim and it wasn’t going. And she had a Facebook account. My wife and I asked her to give it up until she got married. Two months after she gave it up, she got engaged. Now that she is married it is up to herself and her husband, just like everything else in life!

zahavasdad – As a long time FR resident and a mispallel of the Rabbi you smear – SHAME ON YOU. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

First of all, the 5T Vaad sets its own standards.

The Vaad ranges from YI to Chabad to Agudah, so they ‘meet in the middle” on certain things.Rabbi Yosef Eisen – OU bug expert and administrator or Kehilla Kashrus – is the administrator. That means he makes sure that the restaurants comply to the standards SET BY THE VAAD. He does not make policy.

The Rov you are talking about has higher standards then the other Rabbonim do. This is not the forum to discuss why.

ITS HIS CHOICE, we live in America. So as he has said COUNTLESS TIMES, he tells HIS MISPALLELIM which of the establishments meet his standards. These are recommendations FOR HIS KEHILLA. if you want to follow them, fine. if you don’t fine.

Oh by the way, he does not solicit establishments. He only visits an establishment IF HE IS INVITED BY THE OWNER.

He DOES NOT CHARGE ANY MONEY FOR THIS SERVICE, I dare anyone to say otherwise.

Soliek is right. it’s only extortion IF they charged MORE then they charge other establishments. Just because YOU don’t want to pay the going rate, doesn’t mean its EXTORTION.

In a neighborhood with a REAL Vaad, its financal suicide to open without their Hasgacha. The rabbonim will (and have) said from the pulpit ” The following store is NOT under the Vaad.”

As far as the Vaad giving her a break:

Will she open her books to show them when she IS making money?

What makes her different then any other store?

KFB – you said ” i thought the vaad was supposed to help restaurants..”

NO THEY ARE NOT – THEY ARE HERE TO HELP PEOPLE EAT KOSHER!!!

The VAAD HATZEDAKKA is the one that disburses charity, not the Kashrus Vaad.

When my daughter got engaged, i approached her choson.

I asked him “please don’t be insulted, but do you want a “regular Shas, or an Artscroll?”

He responded ” Please don’t be insulted, I’ll take the Artscroll”

    🙂

No one seems to ask the truly relevant question,

WHY ARE YOU FLYING ON EREV YOMTOV?

What would you do, if they cancel the next flight, or worse – get delayed en route?

A husband asked his wife what she wanted for her birthday. She replied ” something that goes from zero to 250 in 10 seconds”.

So he bought her a bathroom scale.

The funeral is scheduled for Friday!

Nasal Pillow masks for Res Med come with three size pillows!i had the face mask, but i could not get comfortable. the nasal pillow is much less obtrusive.if the force hurts, then your head gear is too tight!

I’ve been using a CPAP machine for about 5 years. It makes a tremendous difference. the most important thing is being comfortable with the mask. if you don’t like the ‘full’ face mask, you can get a nasal pillow mask. i find it (and so does my wife) much more comfortable,. you don’t look like a monster when your sleeping. don’t become discouraged quickly. once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. without the mask i don’t sleep for more then an hour without waking up. with the mask, i can sleep six hours straight! i even have my CPAP machine on a Shabbos clock!

Facebook vs smoking is analagous to Chanukah vs. Purim.

The Greeks wanted to kill the RUCHNIUS of the JEWS.

Haman wanted to PHYSICALLY kill the JEWS.

    FACEBOOK IS A RUCHNIUS KILLER.

SMOKING IS “ONLY” a GASHMIUS KILLER.

Facebook kills entire families, smoking kills one person.

    THEY ARE BOTH TERRIBLE!!

There are MANY pitfalls with FB.

1 – even if you see your children, you don’t know who their friends ‘friends” are. they can be in contact through a “friend” and you don’t even know.

2 – Shalom Bayis – the young wife is at home with the baby and she is bored. so she OPENS A FACE BOOK ACCOUNT. – Now she spends hours online schmoozing with TOTAL Strangers.

3 – Girls and Boys in Shidduchim – You get a bad reputation!

I know of several cases where the boy or girl was turned down, because of “OH THEM – they’re on FACE BOOK all the time”

4 – YENTAS – Just because you want to tell Chanie what you made for supper that night, THE REST OF THE WORLD DOESN’T! If you want to talk to someone PICK UP A PHONE!!!! ONCE ITS ON FACE BOOK (OR THE INTERNET) EVERYBODY CAN SEE IT!!!

    BE SMART & CAREFUL!!!!

“How would you dress for an important meeting or job interview?”

or ” how would you dress if you were meeting the President of the United States?”

UNFORTUNATELY – in today’s day – NEITHER MEANS ANYTHING ANYMORE!!

When I was a child growing up in BP, my parents could not afford full tuition, BUT THEY PAID IT ALMOST ALL THE TIME, BEFORE VACATIONS, BEFORE NEW CLOTHES, BEFORE NICE CAR. They yeshiva had mothers coming to school to ‘serve lunch’. I still remember my mother coming once or twice a month to do it.

WHATS WRONG IF PARENTS HELP THE SCHOOL? get rid of some of the custodians and have them ‘sweep”. (Chas v’shalom, i wont ask you to clean toilets’) Your wife used to teach? Let her sub when a teacher is out.

there is a great need for separate colleges. i don’t know about you guys, but 35 years ago, when i went to Brooklyn college, Kosher Country was the greatest hangout! it did lead to some shidduchim, but on the whole, it wasn’t healthy. if our children would do it today, we’d blow a fit!

I know a lot of guys that went to BC just for the girls.

we used to say the girls were in school to get their MRS degree!

Talking to a frum girl or woman that is a stranger is most definitely not tzniut. I’m not saying its assur, i am not a Rov, but it is not proper.

a non-jew is a different story, because of chilul hashem.

    lavdavka,

I’m really sorry you feel that way. I daven in a “heimishe” shul, almost every person gets a Shalom Aleichem. i say Heimishe, because I’ve noticed that Litvish or yeshivish are much cooler towards others. BTW i Am an FFB. When I attended the Mirrer Yeshiva many, many years ago, the saying was ” a new guy only gets a Shalom Aliechem by Kiddush levana!”

With regard to saying “good shabbos” to women, it is an inyan of tzniut.

I greet every man in the street, but not women. If a woamn says Good Shabbos to me, and I see that she might be “new” to this, i answer her, so as to be a mench.

    Rabbosai,

and what about ADULT BEHAVIOR in Walmart? Pushing to the front of the line?

Going on an express line with more then the correct amount of items?

Buying an air conditioner or some other appliance- USING IT ALL SUMMER – and then returning it!

You are worrying about a MIYUT! These kids would find a way even if there is no walmart – even f they are in the City.

Pesach is about memories and family. Unless circumstances dictate that you must go, it is really a crime.

Going into Golus to celebrate cheirus really doesn’t make sense.

A friend of mine goes every year to a hotel. I asked him how it works with all the differnt families going at different paces. He said, ” As soon as i see the first waiter walking out of the kitchen, we skip to Go-al Yisroel!”

As a parent of both boys and girls, NO ONE NEEDS TEXTING!!!!! it is the worst thing in the world to happen. NO ONE TALKS ANYMORE!! forget about inappropriate conversations with people (boys and girls), what about the fact that they don’t talk to YOU! Drive in a car with a teenager that has texting, NOT A PEEP the whole ride. If they want to do something, they text you, they don’t call. A parent can “hear” a child’s voice when they talk to them. Texting does not let you pick up on the nuances of a conversation.

TRUST ME, I”M TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE!!
