So I randomly clicked on the Coffee Room and scrolled down a bit to see what’s being discussed. And lo and behold there was my name, as the OP of this thread. It took me three trys to log in and get my password right. But here I am!

And I am happy to see Syag is still being missed. And PBA of course.
(Psttt Little Froggie, are you still around? If I have to guess, I’d guess you are, but under a different name. Maybe I’ll have a look around and see if I can spot you)

Hi Syag 👋🏻 It’s nice seeing some familiar faces. Ahem, names.
We’re doing all right! If you can just send some chocolate my way. Thanks!

Hi there Little Froggie! Seems I can always count on you for a welcome back greeting!

Back to the topic on hand, any ideas is cynical really funny? I find that when I’m cynical I just sound really insensitive and inappropriate. Is there a fine line that I should be toeing?

I almost felt famous when The Country Yossi magazine had a column “Conversations in the Coffeeroom”

My posts made it there a few times. Was nice seeing my name in print. Even though it was just my screen name. Almost the same thing.

    Yep. That’s me.

I used to crack myself up. Now life breaks me down 😛
    Or my kids. Same thing.

As the saying goes “Kids are the reason you fall apart and also the reason you keep it all together” or something like that.

Thanks everyone! Writing this all down and will (hopefully) make it to a Judaica store by Pesach and narrow it down to one or two new ones.

Syag – From all the suggestions here, that sounds the most intriguing to me. Right up my alley 😉 I’ll look in to it

Baltimore Maven and Toi – Hebrew is a bit rusty. Been some time since I’ve done some in depth learning. I’ll stick to English.

CTRebbe – My oldest is two and half. No chiyuv yet of vehigadita levincha as far as I know… I love the idea of a R’ Ashear hagadda.

    Any further suggestions still welcome.

    Thanks all

    Bumping this up again…

Any newish shiurim that were put up recently?
Something easy to listen to, but intriguing. If it’s about Pesach that’s a plus.

I listen to my regulars: ” R’ Wallerstein, Mr. Harari etc, but looking for something extra interesting while cleaning all the Cheerios that seems to have invaded every corner of my house. No jokes.

    Anyone?

I’m about a year older than my husband.

It’s working just fine. Age is just a number; I’ve preached about this numerous times here in the CR.

I always joke that it would be nice to be the first one to die. My husband doesn’t find it that amusing.

This is how I was as a kid.

My kids use a straw with the foil top on for the first half. Without the foil for the last half.

Growing up, once a year my mother used to demonstrate how to use the fire extinguisher that was kept in the kitchen, as well as the fire ladder kept on the second floor. We had a meeting place, but I don’t recall ever having an actual fire drill.

I have a plan in my head for my family, but my kids are too young to practice. I’ve imagined the scenario many times, so I hope to be prepared if c”v something happens.

I loved having pen pals. I was a kid in the 90’s, and loved looking at the Olomeinu’s pen pal column to see if there was another girl there my age.

I doubt any publication would put out a column like that these days… safety and all…

I am a very intellectually honest person, despite all the attempts of our culture to squish that in me. And I realized soon after getting out of BY system that I am really ignorant in Judasim . My years in school and seminaries have been largely a waste. I have not been able to invest much time in study since then, since I am a mother of many young children bh. And I feel a real void.

Mindful – Can we meet up and learn something together while our kids play like little angels together. I could’ve written this. Word for word.

does anyone know how cheap car leasing is?
This may not apply to everyone, but if your husband or close relative is somewhat handy, buying a used car make sense. Most parts that need replacing are not that expensive, and you can find YouTube tutorials of practically everything. You can change the brakes and do oil changes yourself too.
    Car insurance though…

For those of you queasy about using cloth diapers, off brand diapers are a great option. Especially Walmart’s in-house brand and Kirkland/Costco diapers.
Target has good diapers as well. If you order online, you can subscribe and save. That’s on top of the frequent sales they have. They usually have in-store coupons as well for 5-20% off. I don’t spend more then 14-16 cents a diaper.

    Rent is cheap.

Food prices are fair. I usually don’t spend more that 75-100 a week for a family of 4.

Cleaning lady, takeout, vacations are not necessities for most people on a small budget.

And I’m still getting sinus infections, though not as frequently as when I posted this.

Got some ‘new’ ideas to try here, the ones that I didn’t try 3 years ago.

What gives me most relief now is a sinus rinse (not with a neti pot as yytz posted, there are easier ways of doing it) twice a day. And a lot of rest.

And yes, we were young and dumb back then, oh so confident behind our anonymity. I’ve since gone back and requested of the mods to removed some of my more revealing posts. So far, aside from my husband, no-one has approached me and asked if I’m streekgeek.

rebshidduch- you’re right, there are just so many places to shop and eat here. Was wondering what kind of place you’re looking for.

Re women’s clothing, as you said there is Junee’s. Right around the corner is probably the biggest clothing store, Brooklyn South West – it can get very busy there. Your best bet is to go on a weekday morning.
Girls on Glen is nice, as is Periwinkle.

Re food, Entree is my fave by far. Nice elegant affordable meat restaurant.
Ottimo is an upper scale dairy restaurant. It’s in the same shopping plaza as Junee.
Pizzano and Circa are both “nicer” pizza stores.
Four Corners Bagels has three locations, great food and even better iced coffee slush if you’re in to that kind of thing.

Let me know if you need any other recommendations or addresses. Been living here a while…

My first date with my husband was on Isru Chag Pesach. His family’s minhag is to keep “the first half” of sefirah. He asked his Rav, who told him that which part of sefirah you keep is not based on minhagim; you can keep whatever works for you that particular year. He shaved until Rosh Chodesh that year.

The last few dates he had a beard, it didn’t bother me. He shaved for the L’chaim, which was on Lag Ba’omer. He had a beard by the vort, which was a few days later. That bothered me a bit because of all the pictures we took for posterity.

Are there no children who are picky and will eat only vegetables?

Yes! My daughter. It’s her breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks. Tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, green beans etc. I learnt to first put the protein on her plate, once she’s done that she gets her veggies.

Kids could be strange. I find it odd because I’m a picky eater myself and figured she would take after me. Seems not.

I just don’t get why parents can’t teach children acceptance. Yes, there are going to be people that have different beliefs than you. It’s just the way things are. You still have to respect them as a person, as a tzelem elokim, regardless of what their beliefs are. Isn’t that a basic in Judaism? How come it isn’t enforced, let alone even taught?

We all learn the Bais Hamikdash was destroyed because of Sinas Chinam. Why can’t we teach and show our children the concept of Ahavas Chinam?
