I think I missed something here in the time I was gone.

Mods, is there a way to take away “member” from under my screen name? It is totally superfluous! If I’m posting here, obviously I’m a member.

@live right – I’ll send some guys over to you! How about a “druggie with wild eyes”. Sounds like something you would be interested in? (That was quoted verbatim from someone who gave me info on a boy)

But in all seriousness, make the most of your single days! They won’t last forever and will be over sooner or later. I hope sooner 😉

I can sorta sympathize, except that the suggestions I’m getting are from people that know me! And I’m like, if you know me why are you suggesting him???? It hurts. A lot. As does a lot of other things in this world. But hey! That’s what makes us stronger so I’m working on trying to make the most of it…

@live right – that does make a lot of sense, I had no idea what you meant before you explained it… I wonder if LAB was going to the same place you were.

@WIY – sort of like “kochi v’otzem yadi” and then “vayishman yeshurin vayivaat” If I remember correctly, this was always how it was, it’s not just in this generation.

@live right – I hate to say this, but you hit it on the nail 😉

@syag – great tips, thanks. Especially dueling with the yetzer hara. It makes it sound so much more intriguing and exciting 😉 Ever consider becoming a life coach? Your good at this, and without making me feel like a nothing!

So my new resolution is that I’m going to:

Write down WHAT I want to change.

Write down WHY I want to change it.

Write down what will happen if I DON’T change it.

Write down what will happen if I DO change it.

And I’m gonna do this everyday, b”n. Not here though, don’t get too excited.

Because if they would raffle off a tablet or the latest iPhone, the rabbanim would go all out against it. A couple of organizations have taken upon themselves a tech-free auction. Now with their prize selection so limited, they must think of creative ideas of things people would want. Which baal simcha wouldn’t want to win this???

I guess the rabbanim will have to pick and chose their battles…

Scratch that, it’s Yehuda! and it’s called Perek Shira.

    Take a look around you

    A symphony of sound

    Creation in its rhythm

    The melody astounds

    Each creature plays its part

    Music from their hearts

Shining stars up in the heavens

    Waves upon the seas

    Roaring lions in the jungle

    Fruit blossoms in the trees

    The wilderness, the desert sand

    An eagle in its flight

    They rhapsodize Perek Shira

    CHORUS

    Generations of song

    Sing loud sing strong

    Each one feels the same

As they call out His name

Thank You Hashem as I sing You my song

    Chasdei Hashem Leolam Ashira

    To orchestrate each word

We raise our voice in song

    Ailecha Hashem Nafshi Ekra

    Now with deep anticipation

    We await that final day

When all of us will come together

    Vesham Nashir Shir Chadash

    Singing the same song

    Shiru Lanu Mi-Shir Tziyon

    CHORUS

    Generations of song

    Sing loud sing strong

    Each one feels the same

As they call out His name

Thank You Hashem as I sing You my song

    Chasdei Hashem Leolam Ashira

Your gift of song, each melody

Each note, each tune and every harmony

    Just sing out loud

    Allow your voice to fly

    Generations of song

    Sing loud sing strong

    Each one feels the same

As they call out His name

Thank You Hashem as we sing You our song

Too many answers it’s depressing. But some of them aren’t a personal sacrifice when given up, say addictions. Shabbos was something you had to give up, and if you were strong enough to keep it, it came with big sacrifices. What is that comparable to these days?

Keep a log on what you eat. Biggest deterrent ever, you really won’t find yourself cheating. I have used myfitnesspal dot com. They have tons of food in their data base so they keep track of your calories, fats, sugars… And my best part is that at the end of the day you can see how much you will weigh in 5 weeks if “if everyday was like today” in regard to what and how much you ate.

It is totally free, and they have apps for both iPhone and Androids.

The mods decided to delete my post. Not sure what they have against me. Especially since I NEVER harass them.

Regarding your life story – I get the main gist but without many details its not much of a story. I did mention in my previous post – which 1 question I would ask before asking if it was you. It’s really that simple. Scary, no?

As for your personality – Many people portray different sides of themselves in different situations. You may appear one way online and a different way in real life. So if you claim to only have one side to yourself, I believe I know what it is.

My fantasies involve tools I don’t have, which I guess is tools I don’t need to get where I need to go in life. Why I want those things for myself – I guess because I’m not so happy where I am now contrary to what I thought I would be at this point in time. But this is really straying from my original question – I know who I am and who I’m not, but I am still wishing to be who I am not. I’ve went through a lot to become who I am today, but now that I’m here I feel like there’s not much further I can go using the same tools I used to get here. So am I done?

@keepitcoming – I think when he’s here everyone will know, don’t think there will be a doubt in anyone’s mind. And there are so many midrashim that will freak you out. Try reading the end of Sefer Yeshezkel where it talks about milchemes gog umagog.

Regarding packing clothing, I always said that I’ll have to wear my school uniform to greet Mashiach as it was the most (only?) modest clothing I had. Now that I’m out of uniform I think I have something big to work on before he comes…Ouch.

It really depends on the situation and who it was that embarrassed you. If it was and will be a one time occurrence, take it as something you can potentially grow from, however hard that may be. However, if it is a common occurrence from a specific person, please help him/her!

@Halevi – sounds like a smart idea. I should just drop this whole soul searching business right now before it blows in to a serious mid-life crisis.

@keepitcoming – big grand welcome to the CR!! According to the amount you posted in the one hour since you became a member, it seems like your really interested in what’s going on in here. Hope you stay! The reason why I want to close the circle is to isolate the fantasies on the outside. Those fantasies are so unrealistic but are things I really want, that it hurts me to shut them out.

So in one line: I can’t focus on or use the tools I was given because of these huge sandcastle dreams I have for myself that don’t make any sense.

in reply to: Instagram, the kosher Facebook? #981956
    streekgeek

For all those in the dark – Instagram is all about posting pictures, tagging people with messages regarding the picture, and using hashtags to describe how you feel.

The reason why people find it cleaner then Facebook, and more acceptable is because there is only so much you can do on Instagram. It’s not like FB and G+ because it’s so much more limiting.

As for G+ – it’s practically now part of Gmail, so all those regular BY girls who have Gmail will most probably have G+. Most don’t use them and I’m sure some don’t even know it exists. And the pictures posted publically on those accounts are usually the profile pictures of their email accounts that Google automatically saves to their G+ profile.

Debating whether to post this on the “If Jewish writers are so good, why don’t they publish secular?” thread, but there’s way too much controversy there. I actually dreamed of publishing a sci-fi book for Jewish teens as it is something I believe is missing from the Jewish world. However, anyone who heard this idea said to scratch it as it would never pick up. All everyone wants to read about is shidduchim, marriage issues and kids in broken homes. So I decided not to waste my creativity in that venue and channeled it elsewhere.

But back to the OP, I for one would definitely would be very interested in this Jewish Harry Potter book, but after googling it, I don’t think it will be accepted in our communities at all. From what I read it doesn’t seem to be mocking at all. It’s just a totally wrong perspective of Judaism.

I think the reason why people assume your not spiritual if you don’t attend sem is because it so common to go. In other words, being that it is so accepted to go to seminary, it’s just one more year of learning and growing – people jump to conclusions that obviously you’re not interested in growing. Because why else would you give up a year most girls look forward to?

As for why people make it into something you have to do, I’m unsure. But society dictates. It’s your choice whether you want to follow or not.

Shopping – Just saw your post after I already posted…

So I found many threads on Joseph and I’m quite amazed at his brazen insolence.

I think its time for a new list as yossi Z and shticky guy seem to have relinquished their posts. As did haifagirl. Shomrim is obsolete. I have no idea what bpt has to do with nailpolish, though I did notice that the nailpolish thread is 7 pages long. Quite impressive. People are now dying for subtitles. Mods don’t edit posts anymore, if it’s inappropriate its just deleted. The last 2 rules still stand I believe (- If you see that you’re ignored, let us know that you’ve had enough, and you think every single one of us is wasting our time. Then, come back and we’ll make a festive Welcome Back party.

    – And last but not least, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.)

So as I said and then proved, it’s time for a new list. Could some veterans here put something together so new members won’t be as lost as I was/am??

LOL! Yeh, I’ve read the written rules. No big surprises there. Especially that all rules are subject to change without notice.

I still believe many will benefit from the many unwritten rules other posters may have picked up after their stint in the CR. Even a dictionary with the CR Lingo will help a lot. I remember the first time I heard “joseph” I’m like who the heck is joseph and why does everyone hate him? I had no idea haifagirl was a grammar buff.
