    To answer the Queen’s question,

How would she be sinning by his Aveiros. However, if she would be standing there for that purpose, that would indeed be a sin, and not just Lifnei Iver.

And the answer to the second question is, if it is for a purpose of Taava then, yes. I believe it is not automatic.

To those who cannot understand the difference between passing someone on the street and a picture, here is what I wrote on a different thread some while ago:

There is absolutely no comparison between passing someone on the street and seeing their picture on your page. Besides the obvious fact that on the street the person is part of the general scenery and you are looking where you are stepping, on a screen your eye is focused on the object in front of you. That is the equivalent to walking up to a woman in the street and staring her straight in the face.

The same applies to any picture. If you want to compare the street to a picture, compare it to a picture of a street, or a picture of several people.

As important as it is to think there are times when you have to be able to not think. When it is time to do something don’t think, just get up and do it.

When you think about the job ahead it gets overwhelming. The fact is that you don’t do the whole thing at once, you do it as you move along. When you are thinking about what you have to do, you are thinking of the whole thing at once, which is impossible and overwhelming.

Propel yourself with words and promises. Say, out loud, I will get up in a minute and do such and such. Then you are compelled to follow suit. This won’t work if you don’t consider your words binding. In that case, work on that , first.

42, not necessarily. Most people are not in an actual rush. They just can’t stand the idea of being stuck behind others, or being interrupted by a red light.

Health, I don’t think that’s true about Mishna and Gemara. There is a Chiyuv to learn Halacha, but other than that, the reasoning and Pilpul of how the Halacha came about, is not included.

Sam2, I don’t find the learning on their own to be such a Chiddush. The Gemara Mentions teaching your daughter, which souds like unsolicited teaching. Bruria had to have learned it somehow. If I remember correctly, the Drisha’s mother was a Melumedes.

The only thing is Shitas Rebbi Eliezer, that he didn’t even want to answer a woman in learning. Perhaps she was not a Melumedes on her own, and he was worried about Hizharu Bedivreichem. What went on in Beis Medrash was kept a secret from anyone.

Are you serious? That clip was horrible, and therefore it became a very widespread problem that although it is spoken about at every opportunity, pertinent or not, it is still not spoken of enough!?

As with many other things, those that have or have witnessed this issue tend to magnify it and and find it all over. Also, the definition of abuse got bigger and bigger with time. When you read the description of abuse it makes you wonder if anyone doesn’t.

Sam2, I don’t actually have anything invested in either picture. However, I don’t consider Titus’ arch as any proof, at all. It was erected after he died. The artist probably never saw the Menora. Does it have a depiction of the full count of Gevi’im Kaftorim and Perachim?

Some say that Titus got a fake Menora. But, it was probably a look-alike, anyhow.

If Titus’ arch is considered a Jewish site, why don’t we get permission to fix up the picture of the Menora to make it match with the picture in the Rambam?

Do you really think you will know my screen name up there? I’ve heard of the family seeing the judgement, not that everyone will know your screen name and all other information. Not that you will care, either. As for Aveiros, just as Tzaddikim are able to see on a person his Aveiros, so to will any non-body entity be able to see that.

I once heard a cute Vort about that. Reb Akiva Eiger points to the Halacha that one musn’t sit on a Kever. I don’t know who said it, but the way the Vort goes is that this Taana sat on it to show that it can’t be.

Anyhow, according to the Maharal that I mentioned, he wasn’t referring to an actual Ben Sorer Umora.

You are talking about something that you don’t understand. Baruch Hashem, I wasn’t an old enough Bocher to be worried, but I did get to experience what collegegrad is discussing. Since I wasn’t worried or depressed about my situation, I looked at it like a joke. I can’t say it better than bein-hasdorim. He explained well the difference between the regular IY”H-by-yous and the one that is reserved for the “unfortunate” fellow, that I have to dance with.

coffee, the same voice might mean the same just an octave apart.

Sam2, the Gemara in Sanhedrin says that it won’t be because it doesn’t make sense to happen that someone should get punished for eating and drinking.

    Am Yisroel,

The same place that the Gemara makes that statement that it will never happen, it answers your question: Lehagdil Torah Ulehaadira. It is a Mitzva to learn Hashem’s ways, whether it will happen or not.

Additionaly, one Amora said that he saw the grave of a Ben Sorer umora and sat on it. The Maharal explains that although there won’t be an actual Ben Sorer Umora, the concept exists. When this Amora said that he saw the grave of a Ben Sorer Umora, he was referring to Yerushalayim, which was treated by Hashem as a Ben Sorer Umora. They were exiled before things can get any worse.

ALso, Chazal actually say what the Parsha of Ben Sorer Umora is doing there. It says that if you will marry a Yefas To’ar, you will end up hating her and will end up with a Ben Sorer Umora. Obviously, they aren’t referring to an halachik Ben Sorer Umora, but to a child that will rebel. Avshalom Ben David was the son of a Yefas To’ar.

truthsharer, what in the world is that supposed to mean? Are you aware of the kind of Talmidei Chachamim that existed just a few generations ago? How many people that Pasken Shaalos do you know of that are well versed in all of Shas and Poskim, as if they just learned it?

Just to throw something in to the Kollel conversation, in past generations people would learn for hours after completing their day’s work. Today it is rarely possible to grow and amass great knowledge in Torah.

isBack, is someone bothering you? Are we Mechuyav to tear down our Mechitzos because Reb Moshe Paskened that 10 Tefachim is technically OK?

    HaLeiVi
    Participant

    Twisted,

The Ohr Hachayim Hakadosh asks in Parshas Balak, how can a curse affect a person, is he Mechuyav Misa or not? He answers that Hashem is Maarich Af, that he pushes off punishment in case the person will do Teshuva. When there is a curse on the person it causes the actual Din, that technically exists on the person, to take effect. That is the idea here, too.

Please realize that the Tanaim and Amoraim who wrote the Zohar Hakadosh and the Arizal and all other Mekubalim spent their time studying Hashem’s ways. How, and why, do you feel free to dismiss their words with the wave of a hand.

Nothing to do with being a Gadol Hador. Reb Moshe said that it is a Hetter but there is good reason to be Machmir. Not everyone took on his Hetter, either. When someone takes something upon himself, why does that eat you up? Although the Churban happened happened because of Sinas Chinam, how do you know that iyt is supposed to be our only focus? Many Sefarim say that our redemption will be in the Zechus of Torah. So let’s put more effort into learning more Torah.

It helps to separate and to quantify. To decide that the person was/is wrong, but I won’t remain angry. Often times I look back at those who have wronged me, as a fellow actor in a play. It is now in the past.

When you define something strongly it become academic and unemotional. When you think, he was surely a Baheima for grabbing that out of my hands, you can now stop being angry at that Baheima. You can even be friendly while being careful not to allow him to repeat his prior actions. You can be friendly toward, and even love, an animal, but you won’t trust a sandwich in front of it.

There are people to whom I carry no grudge at all, although I know that they were wrong. I know not to trust their judgement, and I’m also aware of their many fine qualities.

The Medrash (I cannot remember where, much to my chagrin) says, that every once in a while Hashem brings about some great natural disaster to show that He is boss.

Even though there are many who don’t believe in Hashem r”l, they also learn to realize that they are not in control and that they have to submit to a larger power.

The point is not to ask for Mechila. The Lashon you’ll find in Shas and Halacha is to be Mefayes him. Piyus means to apologize and to make the person feel better by explaining that you truly regret what you’ve done and you will try to make up for it.

Also, Shaas Kaaso does not count and is actually a form of Onaa. Shaas Kaaso will have to be calculated in each case separately. If the pinch is still hurting do not ask for Mechila. What did you you do for that person that he owes you a Mechila Gemura Beleiv Shalem? Not only did you wrong him, now he owes you for it, too!?

I was brought up with that as well, and I am careful about it. The reason for not cutting the nails in order (brought in Halacha) is also for the reason of it being the way of a Meiss, as well as sleeping with the feet towards the door.
