Everyone davens by “their” shkiah, the question is when do you hold shkia is? People that daven by Rabeinu Tam (like my husband) beleive that that’s when shkia is.

Health: For all those in denial -This is from Mass. General Hospital OCD clinic web site, under glossary:…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this probably means, picking because you’re trying to harm yourself i.e. mental illness (I have a friend who did this – she had bipolar)… not someone picking because of a habit that they enjoy, not EVERYTHING boils down to majorly deep reasons, it’s a plain old habit like any other.

NEVER talk about your husband to anyone!!!!

    1. If it’s negative – that’s self-understood, lacking in trust and loyalty

    2. If it’s posotive – why would you want to wave that in someone else’s face who may not be as fortunate as you, you wouldn’t want to be the cause of someone else’s lack of marital peace, whom will wonder why her husband cant also do/be xyz…

    3. If it’s neutral – what makes you think your husband wants details of his life being prattled about between woman.

Bootom line is don’t say ANYTHING, no good can come from it, that’s for sure!

I’m not talking about picking because your lips are dry, moisturizing them won’t help! I’m talking about it for the sheer enjoyment of getting off a good peice – ahhhh! It’s for the habit persee.

Health: get a life, you seem to think there are ‘underlying’ issues behind EVERYTHING!, not everyone has to see a shrink for every dumb thing he or she might do. This is a habit my mom has too and lots of us have caught on, it’s annoying, maybe even unpleasant, but there are no deeper issues behind it! I like pickles with most of my meals, there must be an underlying issue, maybe i have a fear of tasting things on their own, lest the taste be really horrid, it probably boils down to self-confident issues, no?

Well, I officially opened an account “January 31, 2008 (3 years)” as it says on my profile page, but I was around even before that as a lurker, until there was a “mailbag” (like it was called in those pre-coffeeroom days) that really touched something inside me and made me sign up to add my 2 cents!

But I usually just read, if I happen to be logged in I might comment here or there, but I’m not a frequent poster…

And I HATE when ppl offer to make something, cuz I don’t know how to get out of it, but I REALLY prefer making, serving and eating my OWN food, (but maybe I am a little OTT like that, especially if I’ve never seen your kitchen!!!) I’m inviting YOU, be a guest!

philosopher: I love gymboree, though I will admit their summer stuff are much cuter than their winter things. Also, are you shopping for a girl or boy? Their girl’s stuff is whats cute, the boys aren’t anything so amazing, but if there’s something nice in boys it’s worth buying it just for the quality, they wash amazing and will last you for a few children, hard to find that anywhere these days.

I know LOTS of young couples in israel with cleaning help. The floors here don’t get mopped like in America, they require ‘sponja’, which is more like man’s labor than ladies. For those that don’t want their husbands to have to do sponja (like is the case in many homes here and is very “normal” – dont tell the shvigger!!!) so they get some outside help, it’s not sooooo crazy! And once shes here doesn’t hurt for her to clean bathrooms too…

If you’re wife is feeling sick you might want to tell them for their help!!

Also, it depends what number child it is, the first child one usually says very early, so parents can rest assured that all is ok… but if it’s a subsequent child you dont have to feel rushed to share the word and can tell them when you feel ready.

No need to tell others (siblings, friends, colleagues…) until you’re showing, unless you just can’t keep a secret!

There is NO reason why a girl should have to give a picture of herself!! I mean… a little respect for her as a person and not a sale item! I’ve had shidduchim nixed because of this ridiculous request!

Secondly, I met my husband and as some1 said earlier, it was a real “shocker”, my first thought was NO WAY!! But it was too late and the date wasn’t so bad. After a few dates, I really enjoyed his company but could NOT get used to his looks, on the urging of my father (who convinced me that with time I will get used to it) I went ahead, and we are happily married for a few years with an adorable little son. Do I sometimes look at him and see the “first impression” again? certainly, does his looks bother me once in a while? yes, (maybe something lacking in my marriage??) but when it does, i think of the great middos he has, and the heart of gold… and i wouldn’t trade that for any looks! (had I seen a picture, I never would’ve agreed to go out with him)

(PS: When I was pregnant I was a little nervous my baby would look like him, turns out my baby does, but is absoulutely adorable and I wouldn’t have him looking any other way! (looks like his baby pix, i guess time will tell…)

As a girl, the kids were allowed to play but the older ones were expected to stay at the table, (that’s why each bathroom was occupied instead…!!!) At my in-laws it’s the opposite, really chilled table, i adopted their style, we have minimum one break a meal (couch is in dining room so not a big deal) I like it that way, it’s hard sitting on a chair so long!

in reply to: Take it outside!!!!!! #709397

If you live in Israel, you’ll know that even though they’re supposed to “take it outside” (smoking) they don’t! So it won’t work in this regard either!!

I know it’s not what the thread is about, but I can’t STAND when I walk into a store, take-out…etc and people (many times the owner) is smoking right into our faces, if you want people to patronize your store you can’t harm them! I’ve many times had to ask people to put out their cigarettes! (Some are respectful to my request and some just give attitude) I wish they would enforce things here!

If you want to harm yourself, go ahead, but what did I do wrong that I too must be harmed?

I heard it’s only a sakana if you step on the nail from the opposite gender. i.e. if a woman steps on a man’s nail or a man steps on a woman’s nail. (I heard this in seminary, when we were only girls living in the dorm, and a girl asked a teacher about it)

    3. ENSURE A BASSINET

It’s what will make or break your flight! I just flew with my 8 month old without a bassinet, and… you don’t want to know!! No fun! Last time I had one and the flight was a dream!!

Will never work, unless they convince the girls in seminary and highschool that these boys are worth something too.

There’s a reason why you find today that even boys not cut out for learning are still sitting and “learning” read: hanging around the coffee room; THEY WANT TO GET MARRIED!!

As long as girls are being doctrined that this is the only thing, and this is why women were brought down to this world – to support their husband in learning…etc it will never get very far.

    FYI:

“Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Lifshitz in The Bronx, New York, to Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants, from Pinsk, Belarus:[2] Fraydl (Kotlar) and Frank Lifshitz, a house painter.[3]

From a young age he started working after school to earn money to buy suits.

Ralph attended the Salanter Academy Jewish Day School followed by MTA (now known as the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy), before eventually graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1957.[4][5] In MTA Lauren was known by his classmates for selling ties to his fellow students. In a moment of spontaneity, when asked what he wanted to do in[6] his Clinton yearbook he stated under his picture that he wanted to be a millionaire.[7] During the summer, Ralph attended Camp Roosevelt (Monticello).[8]

At the age of 16, Ralph’s brother Jerry (who was his guardian) changed their last name to Lauren to avoid the unfortunate obscenity reference Lifshitz has in English (although Ralph’s brother Lenny retained the name). Apparently Ralph was teased about it in school.[9] [10]

He went to the Baruch School of Business and Civic Administration of the City College of New York (now known as Baruch College) where he studied business, although he dropped out after two years. From 1962 to 1964 he served in the United States Army.[citation needed] On December 20, 1964, he married Ricky Anne Low-Beer in New York City. The two met six months earlier, in an eye doctor’s office where Ricky was working as a receptionist.[11] He did not attend fashion school, but worked for Brooks Brothers as a salesman. In 1967, with the financial backing of Norman Hilton, Lauren opened a necktie store where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label “Polo.”[12] He later purchased the name from Hilton.”
