    Sorry.

in reply to: Whatsapp Calling #1067434

I just got it last night. Unlimited minutes maybe, (but this is over the internet and is better for international calls, which are free, and when you don’t have service), but its definitely better than the other voip apps, simply because more people are on whatsapp than anything else. All these calling apps require both sides to be members.

How about people actually connecting to Hashem through davening? Everything else is nice, but secondary.

Ny times was left in, but mine was edited? There’s no issur saying lashon hara about them. Their self stated purpose is to rake up the dirt on the frum community to try to prevent people from joining aka: baalei teshuva, and to try to bring us down. I think they can and should be denounced for being the hatemongers that they are.

Take it how you like it. Age is a one way street, so savor every moment of each stage. There’s no going back. Chap arein!

Just read it (the one about the fire and the one about hot plates.) Didn’t seem so bad. I would attach a link to the non religious Jewish one, but I don’t think I’ll get away with that.

    No. What did they say?

Barry LS1: I was actually once driving in Israel with a gps (garmin, this was before waze) on the way back from amukah and the gps directed us into a settlement. There was an automatic gate in front, but thankfully, someone was driving in, so we followed behind them and the gate closed behind us. The gps told us to drive around a path, and eventually, we ended up by the same (locked) gate that we started off by. Boruch Hashem it wasn’t Arab, but the secular Israeli kibbutznik we had to ask to open the gate didn’t seem too happy to see us. This same GPS tried to get us to drive down the steps to the Armenian shuk. It was a real Israeli driver. 😉

So in the end, it seems we both agree that we need to take practical steps to protect ourselves from fire, and must cleanse ourselves spiritually, because ultimately, its not in our hands. It seems that the crux of what we are left arguing about is if it is considered your fault if a tragedy chas veshalom happens in a place lacking smoke detectors. That is really none of our business.

(Sam2: whether or not I completely agree with you, I don’t think you meant to write before “of course Hashem ISN’T involved”.)

Health: if you are suggesting that every house should have an automated sprinkler system, that is tremendously expensive. For a private dwelling, that is very uncommon.

The goyish media was actually not bad when it came to the Sassoon tragedy. Look at edited article. You can feel the venom dripping.

Cozimjewish: don’t worry, nobody accused you of being adult. (Ages are often more apparent than genders.)

in reply to: ———–Reading Between the Lines————— #1070536

Btw you would have gotten more hits if you would have titled the thread “Bias in the secular media”, or something like that. The title is pretty vague.

in reply to: ———–Reading Between the Lines————— #1070535

They spurn the fact that we spurn their world. Being as we think they are wrong, it follows to say that they think that we are wrong. Disagreement tend to go both ways.

Gucci and ferragamo and lexus and infiniti and burberry and claire shaitels and the right bungalow colony and the perfect house and up to date kitchen and latest phone and keeping up with the cohens or jones isn’t the real world, if that’s the one you find a lack of meaning in.

in reply to: Tragedy has fallen on all of us #1070956

I’m not downplaying the need for smoke detectors. I’m downplaying saying that Hashem isn’t involved.

There are people that can’t conceive that a gadol would have the chutzpah not to agree with them.

in reply to: In Witch He Snorted #1115609

Do you people find a lack of meaning in the real world that you have to live in a fake one? (For the record, I read the books. They were well written. It ended there.)

in reply to: get rid of smart phone #1072416

Risking your life? Let’s not overdo it. And every timer you see traffic reports on waze, its from another waze user that’s stuck in traffic. So don’t think that wazers ate immune to traffic.

in reply to: Tragedy has fallen on all of us #1070948

Do you know anyone who’s house burned down? I loW someone, and she said the flames spread so fast there was nothing anyone could do. And she was standing there and saw when the fire started. If Hashem decides its time to go, you can take all your smoke detectors with you to the grave. (That could have been worded much nastier.) I’m not saying you shouldn’t have smoke detectors, but don’t think that not having them puts you at fault when there’s a fire, or that having them will protect you. Now maybe go do a bit of a cheshbon hanefesh. And whoever brought up maakeh, that was ridiculous. We are talking about a fire that already started, not preventing one.

in reply to: IT WASN'T ME!!! #1067250

Ok. Whoever it was is gone for days already. Can we just forget about its existence?

in reply to: NeutiquamErro's favorite thread with an obscure title #1147653

You’re all insane. A meaningless conversion, on a meaningless topic, with a meaningless agenda. And HP is kishuf. And is says befeirush in the book that the wand doesn’t matter so much, its all about the wizard behind it. It wad just rumored to be unbeatable. While powerful, it couldn’t compete with a superior wizard. Now get a life.

in reply to: Tragedy has fallen on all of us #1070909

You can develop all the fire safety plans you want, but if you don’t fix the the cause and only address the symptoms, tragedy may strike again. Maybe even to you. And you’re going to be shocked, because you thought you addressed the problem. But really, that thought was the problem.

in reply to: KTCRIM – Keep the CR Interesting Movement #1174247

Look at that! We’re arguing already! Mission accomplished! (“No we’re not!”) Btw,I don’t think out isreally machlokes, being as we don’t know each others identities. Nothing is personal, and there are no hurt feelings. We’re just trying to make our points.

    in reply to: GoGoGoGo #1105183

I don’t get why you are all convinced that if it was a current poster, the moderators would know. Its incredibly easy to open up a new account with a new name and email, and no one knowing the difference. It does make sense that it was someone here who wanted to raise ruckus, being as it only lasted a couple of hours. I don’t think any real person would give up so easily. I didn’t see enough of the threads stayed by (a non committal to gender) it, so I didn’t see any if the references to earlier discussions. (I just skipped anything I saw started by it.) I must admit, it was extremely annoying.

in reply to: Tragedy has fallen on all of us #1070896

The point is that we don’t know why exactly this happened, but obviously Klal Yisrael has a problem, and extra zchusim can’t hurt. The reason Hashem made this happen has nothing to do with smoke alarms. Unless you don’t believe in him, you should be doing more than checking your smoke alarms. People like rationalizing tragedies to explain why it doesn’t apply to them. From a non religious standpoint, they’re right. However, being as this is a site for religious Jews, they don’t belong posting here.

There was a big machlokes on the CR regarding the rationale of boycotting German products. I forgot who said what.

Ah, the great mysteries of creation. People were complaining that there’s no action here.

in reply to: KTCRIM – Keep the CR Interesting Movement #1174244

The Harry Potter thread started off good, but then morphed into a discussion of different questions and comments on the books. More appropriate for a Harry Potter fan club site than Yeshiva World!

I don’t think the real complaint is that there are no more controversial threads. I think you are saying that there is no content and the threads are about meaningless and non applicable topics. I second the motion.

in reply to: Naming A Child After Someone With Weird Name #1121214

Reb Yaakov Kaminetsky famously said not to give a name which would sound strange to the kids American friends. Its just not worth it. Giving every name anyone suggested and sounding like you’re reading the list of words that Reb Chaim said aren’t names every time you make a Mi Sheberach isn’t a solution either.

in reply to: My issue with the Israeli Chareidi parties #1066374

The draft is blocking the path of chareidim working, by making it illegal to work without doing service. I think the draft has a good chance of being canceled. Almost all senior military advisors think a volunteer army makes more sense to properly utilize Israels strategic strengths.

in reply to: Is It Important to Know Israeli Politics In Order To Be A Frum Jew #1065403

You hear seats, votes, and parties. They hear the future of Torah in Eretz Yisrael. Ours not shallow for them to talk about it, but it’s probably pointless, being as they are not gedolim whose opinions count. However, say it as you may,a tremendous amount rides on the election that has huge implications for klal yisrael.

in reply to: Will chareidim be in the next knesset? #1065398

Is unclear right now if Likud has 29 or 30. I guess we’ll know tomorrow.

in reply to: Has he called yet? #1065399

Who says Netanyahu won? Herzog may have an easier time prong together a coalition than him. If anything, Kachlon won, because the next government comes down to him. Bibi needs the chareidim and Lieberman, (or Lapid, Kachlon, and Lieberman), but Herzog doesn’t.

in reply to: room for personal expression in yeshiva #1065727

Popa: you need a new user name. Trolling doesn’t work if you’re a known troll. 😉

in reply to: I'm anti Zionist now #1158260

Bennet is responsible for the previous evil government. Netanyahu is debatable. The Bennet-Lapid bloc was 31 seats, basically the whole right besides for the chareidim. He still bears responsibility for doing nothing to block the decrees. However, he’s seemingly not as bad as Bennet. It will be interesting to see if the chareidim will enter a government with Bennet, after he stabbed them so viciously in the back; or if they will go with Herzog and Livni, a known chareidi hater. Lieberman would really be a natural partner with Bibi, but he’s having problems and might not enter with chareidim.

in reply to: The Demise of Jewish Music #1063473

Abie Rottenburg had some pretty heartfelt fast music, as does Yehuda Green. Btw, on the original post I meant to write *the words have no connection to the tune. Somehow it came out errors, and I wasn’t able to edit it, for some reason.

in reply to: Are Women Really Jewish? #1065126

Just because they’re not Jewish makes them akum? Maybe they’re an independent category. Btw PBA: you once said they if women say sheasanei keretzon, men should say shelo asani keretzono. Of course you never joke, but I think a modicum of greatness lies in that pithy statement. 🙂

I’ve heard from an Adam Gadol that Harry Potter is avodah zarah. Definitely not recommended reading.

in reply to: Any heter to not get drunk on Purim? #1219997

You started this thread because you wanted someone to say “Any heter TO get drink on Purim”. So therefore, I just said it.

in reply to: Are Women Really Jewish? #1065123

I’m glad someone finally came to the obvious conclusion. Of course women aren’t Jewish! But who ever said you have to be Jewish to make a good cholent?

in reply to: Any heter to not get drunk on Purim? #1219983

I pasken like the mishna berurah; to make sure that whatever you do is lshem shamayim.

Oomis: the exemption for men fighting for Hashem included people that did aveiros and were a liability for the army. I think that includes the IDF. A high ranking official once admitted that they drafted girls to get the boys to join. Enough said.
