I think my point was kind of lost. I was not looking for any reasons or excuses for OTD. Thats for another thread and another time.

During the 9 days we are suppose to be sad for a loss. Frankly for most its really hard to be sad. I want you honestly admit you are really sad for the destuction of the Bais Hamigdosh. It can be hard to be sad about that.

Its much easier to be sad about things we can more relate to and see in our everyday lives.

There is so much blame and sinchas chinum today, I was trying to pick something we could all agree on to be sad about.

Maybe the wording I used was incorrect.

But for this 9 Days and tsha B’av just mourn for the OTDers, The parents and siblings of the OTDers, Mourn for the children of OTDers. Mourn for the friends of OTDers. Mourn for the Klal Yisroel loss.

People who dont know anyone or THINK they dont know anyone dont understand.

Its not just why people react in negative ways, Its why someone would pay the price to go OTD. I dont understand it myself.

I know people who have gone to Meir Shearim and while dressed tzniut for their community were not dressed for Meir Sharium standards and were harassed by the Sikirum.

genenerally they enforce the standards on their own people and its not always true people are doing it for the love of the Mitzvah, Some do out of fear.

I read the aricle from YWN, the names listed are Yair Lapid, MK Aryeh Deri, Minister Yaakov Peri, Minister Naftali Bennett, and MK Elazar Stern .

Except for Aryeh Deri none are from Charedi Parties

@Health In non-charedi communities the lay people would come out regardless what the leadership says and the leadership would then come out against as well

In the Charedi communities the lay people very rarely come out without rabbinic approval. I think most people understand this. Thats why people expect the Rabbinic leadership to come out against it. And more so in Israel when the Rabbanic leadership does make statements on more general issues.

The difference between Charedi and Non-Charedi communities is very apparent in this incident.

The charedi communities are more homogeneous and want much more solidarity than non-charedi communities.

In general (but not always) you cant even join a charedi community if you dress differently. However the other communities there is much less uniformity.

Citizens of Tel Aviv relate to each other very differently than citizens of Bnei Brak. I describe it exactly but it is different.

Charedi communities tend to like the uniformity .

Thats why poeople might demand the Rabbis condem such actions but would not demand the same from the mayor of Tel Aviv for a mugging

Im not sure you really want this.

Its been asked many times about issues like Ramat Beis Shemesh why the Rabbanim havent dont anything.

If they “enforce” tzniut, One should expect them to stop the Zealots in RMS and Meir Sharim. One should expect them to control the abusers. One should expect them to control other scandals that have rocked us lately

BTW I think the OP was also referreing to

On the other side, you have those who work within the “orginized community”, and interface between the community and its leaders. These are the “Gaboim”, “convincers” and “Hockers”, who push the leaders of the community to do things they would not have done otherwise. They create a layer of separation between the leaders and the people, and those are the problem.

And not Hatzalah, Tomche Shabbos and Misakim

It actually was a conservative answer

Marriage was always controled by the states not the federal government, Take it up with Albany not the Supreme Court if you want the law changed.

The California Prop 8 wasnt decided at all, they just decided they litigants didnt have legal standing as was ruled by a lower court. Again dont like the law take it up with Sacramento or make another citizen prop

Without getting into the Rav Stav , Rav Yosef affair to far.

I was told a list of controversial poskenings of Rav Stav was published and passed around and out of context they looked bad. However upon further review they were reasonable.

They are murmurings that askanim gave these Pskaks out of context to Rav Yosef

We all know the Vilna Gaon put chassidim in Cherem .

I think we all also know that the Baal Shem Tov was a great Tzadik as were many of the early like Reb Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev. (They were all Tzadikkim)

Have you ever wondered why the Vilna Gaon put them in cherem.

An Askan went to the Vilna Gaon and told him he saw a Chassid eating on Tshia B’av with a female on his lap.

The Vilna Gaon then declared Chassdim Apikorsus and put them in Cherem.

The Askan DID NOT tell the Vilna Gaon the the Female was his grandaughter and it was Shabbos Tsha B’av (When eating is permitted)

My yeshiva called me for a donation. I told them they did not support my ambition to work then so I will not support them now either since my money should be considered treif and donating would be considered Mitzvah Bo Bavayrah.

I have heard similar stories to this and many times the persons reaction was similar

There is no correct path for everyone. For some people the Kollel path is the correct way and for others trade path and others College and then a profession.

You cant paskin from an internet blog and say one rav is correct or incorrect without knowning the individual

Apparently many of the bochrim wish to earn a few dollars during bein hazmanim. The writer lamted that such holy angels should not be lowered to work for a few extra dollars.

Frankly sometimes is not even Halacha, Its just presentation

A Chiloni just might feel more comforatable with a Rabbi who speaks Hebrew with an Israeli Accent as opposed to a Yiddish accented hebrew. And the Hebrew accented on might speak to them in a matter they are accustomed to in their venacular. (as opposed to constantly quoting posukim and talking indirectly)

We should allow them to produce mamzerim (whose grandchildren might marry mine and yours)?

Rav Moshe was generally very Makil on these issues when dealing with non-religious people. In some cases he probably made a bit of a stretch to prevent mamzeros. (Ie he claimed the Aidim werent kosher)

Why don’t you question why the syntax of Modern Hebrew is European, not Hebrew?

It’s the same reason. People use the syntax of their first language.

Because when one speaks english, one should use the proper syntax of english.

Since modern hebrew was basically re-invented and there was no syntax, the syntax of European languages was used

Because, in fact, the status if the marriages, divorces, and conversions of thousands of Jews lay in their hands.

The problem is you can be a makel ,Machmir or chumra machmir. When dealing with Chilonim (and I mean non-religious people as opposed to anti-religious) you have to treat them differently. many Chilonim might very well up to a religious wedding, but it doesnt mean they want to go overboard. Charedi control of the wedding beraeu has caused approx 20% of Israelis to marry in Cyprus. Exactly what was accomplished by being machmir?

Being Machmir doesnt always get your desired results

The Chief Rabbis is for the Chilonim and the government not for the Charedim

No matter who the Chief Rabbi is the CHaredim will look to their own Rabbis. Ger to the Gerrer Rebbe, Belz to the Belzer Rebbe, Litvaks to Rav Shteinmen, the Sefardim to Rav Yosef etc.
