Ptach I think is like Cahal where they dont have a School but rather have classes in various schools in the community depending on the grade.
You dont apply to Chaim Berlin you apply to Ptach and they will place you in your appropriate grade level. If your grade is in Chaim Berlin they will put you there, If it is elsewhere they will put you elsewhere
zahavasdadParticipantnusah18 +1
zahavasdadParticipantI should have defined what an IEP is
An IEP is a detailed report by education experts on your exact abiliites, where they are weak, what level you are on. How grade level your math, english social skills etc.
They can offer you extra help where you need it provide tutors (even in Yeshivas) They send the help to the Yeshivas FOR FREE
It provides solutions to help those weaknesses FOR FREE at taxpayer expense.
zahavasdadParticipantOP
You need to speak to your parents about the IEP, I dont think you can get it yourself, but they can. They probably went to a meeting at the board of Ed to get one and if they didnt they are leagally entitled to get it done (I am assuming you live in NYC) but I think IEP’s are done throught New York State, Its a State mandate not a city mandate.
The IEP’s give your exact disablities and full detail and then you can discuss with various yeshivas if they are able to deal with them
zahavasdadParticipantSo Nisht
How does being a Box Schleeper boss make you an expert on IEP’s and Special Education.
And my comments arent off the top of my head, Anyone who knows anything about special ed would take my comments seriosuly
zahavasdadParticipantMany More Modern orthodox schools are more equipped to handle special education and many do have resource rooms, but it still doesnt mean he belongs there. However every Special education child is different and there are a broad range where they are and without reading the IEP its impossible to know where he is on the scale.
A Yeshiva like Darchei might actually be a terrible place for him, if he has seriosus issues and cannot really learn properly he will get frustrated and may even act out and a Rebbe who is not qualified to teach a special needs child will unduly punish him and make it worse.
zahavasdadParticipantIn general its hard to comment on the OP’s specific case unless you read his IEP (Some School report on his disabilities)
So its hard to know if he needs just a resource room or needs a special school. Its hard to know even how much he can be pushed.
zahavasdadParticipantMost Yeshivas do not have resource rooms. Special Ed teachers cost money and have to be specially trained. They barely pay their own regular teachers. They are not going to pay for a Special Ed teacher.
Those classes need to be smaller which also costs money.
And its not a matter of you get what you pay for, very few people can afford $50,000 tutions even if you have a really good job.
I dont think Darechi takes special ed Students, however there is a program in the 5 towns Far Rockaway called Cahal that does and they place students in various schools in the area. They might have a class at Darchei
zahavasdadParticipantThere is also Kulanu in the 5 towns, It is also about $50,000
zahavasdadParticipantYou probably need to go to a school like Sinai in Teaneck, NJ. It doesnt have a dorm.
Be aware the school costs about $50,000
jewish Schools for learning disabled People are very expensive. Many such kids wind up going to public school because of the cost
zahavasdadParticipantRav Feldman did say that he belived that Dov Lipman was working L’Shem Shamayim (even if he disagreed with him)
zahavasdadParticipantI guess you know better than Rav Aharon Feldman the Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Yisroel where Dov Lipman got his Smicha from who while not agreeing with him only said he was misguided.
zahavasdadParticipantI read your statement perfectly
Do you consider Dov Lipman and Shai Piron “Fanatical Secularists”
zahavasdadParticipantIve met Chilonim in Europe as well (I had a hat on) and when I spoke to them in Hebrew they asked where I learned it and I told them I was Dati and they still spoke to me and kept telling me how much I need to come to Israel and what a beautiful place it is. And they were surprised to find a jew who speaks hebrew in Europe and they were happy.
zahavasdadParticipantAnd this happens in Dzengoff St
zahavasdadParticipantIve done it and it wasnt a problem. They dont bother me.
At some point they figure out I am american and they want to start to speak english to me
zahavasdadParticipantIts alot easier to frame as Rosa Parks when people are spitting and cursing you and shouting at you than when you are alone and noboody notices
zahavasdadParticipantThey have been there for about 10 years. Their PR has been a failure
zahavasdadParticipantI just noticed the posters name and Im truly sorry you are going through this
zahavasdadParticipantI dont think this is the place to discuss this.
You need to see a therapist who can advise you better
zahavasdadParticipantHad the Charedim totally ignored them and let them be, they would have done they wanted in obscurity and nobody would be paying attention and they probably would have stopped as nobody new would have come and people would have dropped out.
There is an old saying there is no such thing as bad publicity. NO Publiciy is the worst
zahavasdadParticipantYou obviously dont know what a Fanatical Secularist is.
A Fanatical Secularist is someone who files lawsuits against religion (Like Fighting “Under God” in the Pledge) who might sue a Yeshiva for discrimation because there are no women in charge or might sue a Rabbi because they wont marry a same gender couple.
Someone who drives to the Beach on Shabbos never goes to Shul , never speaks to a rabbi but doesnt care if other people do is secularist, but not a fanatical Secularist.
zahavasdadParticipantThere are very few “Fanatical Secularists”
Someone might be a Chiloni, but it doesnt mean they are a “Fanatical Secularist” Most people lives their lives and dont bother other people and dont want to be bothered
zahavasdadParticipantIf you had even the slightest inclination towards the truth, you would acknowledge that “we all” are not losing our youth to frumkeit in nearly the same numbers as “you all”.
Nobody really knows hoe many OTD’s there really are.
June 11, 2013 1:34 pm at 1:34 pm in reply to: Does anybody know a secular Israeli that was thanked for supporting Torah? #958123zahavasdadParticipantThe problem is that the Torah community kept growing and is jeapordizing the long term hiloni control over Eretz Yisrael. We aren’t will to reduce our numbers, and they can’t increase their’s.
And they are the ones working and paying taxes, As their numbers get smaller and smaller their tax rates are getting higher and higher to pay for the benefits. At some point they cannot pay anymore. They are entitled to feed their own families and pay their own mortgages too.
zahavasdadParticipantTristan da Cunha is 1800 miles from the nearest Island
zahavasdadParticipantAny group that holds a event against the wishes of the Gedolim , Publishes forged letters from them and allows signs insulting them are exactly the ones that need to do Tshuva
zahavasdadParticipantI do not know who you work for, but people with college degrees are generally unsuited for certain tasks.
I would not hire a person with a masters in Mathematics to shlep boxes.
If you desire to be a box shlepper than college is not for you.
zahavasdadParticipantOk, you are such an expert that you can tell who on an anonymous blog has a college degree or not. Its not like I went around shoving my diploma in peoples faces around here.
(and yes its on the wall of my house nicely framed I am proud to have it).
zahavasdadParticipantGrimms Fairy Tales except for the Anti-Semtic one
zahavasdadParticipantI thought I answered it, but Ill repeat
I have a real college degree from a secular university (Not Touro or YU) .
yes I have a job, I would not have gotten it if I did not have the degree as origianally I was competing with other people to get it and they had degrees. Employoers reading your resume will look for college degrees first in order to weed out unwated resumes.
The Degree got me past the original resume sifting area. You still have to be interviewed and show you know your stuff.
zahavasdadParticipantA college degree is the key to open the door to many positions in the counry.
You cannot even get to the door without one and I would not have gotten in the door unless I had a college degree.
You will not be called into an interview unless you have one.
zahavasdadParticipantYisro had easier access to Moshe than Yaffed has to the Rabbanim.
Its very difficult to get passed the Askanim anymore.
zahavasdadParticipantHow do you the message out, the only other way is Pashkavills, but Those would be either torn down , Defaced or pasted over.
So Im not sure that would work either.
Such a message would probably not get passed the askananim so that avenue is closed as well
zahavasdadParticipantHow else do you expect for Yaffed to get out their message?
Since the intended audience doesnt listen to radio or watch TV and Im sure their newspapers wont take such an ad. There is no other method.
zahavasdadParticipantI guess he is trying to get his message out. He probably feels like nobody would listen otherwise
June 5, 2013 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm in reply to: Does Someone Who Is Passul L'Aidus Have Legal Standing? #957170zahavasdadParticipantIf this was true a single woman (No Husband, Brothers or Sons) who is a landlord could not go to Beis din against a non-paying tenant for back rent
June 5, 2013 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm in reply to: What problems can you think of in this sticky Halachic case? #957490zahavasdadParticipantThere may be “Lifnei Iver” issues if you provide food (and otherwise she wouldn’t be eating then), since she will not be making brachos.
I think only Rav Elyshiv holds this way, otherwise there would be much greater issues in general, like if you own a restaurant or work at one and obvious non-religious jews come in
zahavasdadParticipantThe only reason it would not happend with Chreadi kids is they would unlikely be going on a class trip to Atlanta (Never heard of such a “class trip” before) from jewish kids
(I do see secular kids come from all over the US to NY for class trips)
June 4, 2013 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm in reply to: Admitting bad judgement: Is it seen as a sign of strength or weakness? #957382zahavasdadParticipantI dont understand why these people dont understand what a tremoundous Chilul Hasehm this stuff is.
In general society look at the scorn heaped up such people. Look at the damage at the Catholic Church, Look at the damage at Penn State. It brought down the Pope and the greatest college football coach. You dont think a R’Y could be brought down if they were found negeligent?
zahavasdadParticipantAnd the Moon Walks were Faked as its a spirtual place and not a physical place
zahavasdadParticipantSome anonymous poster here
I just felt it was important to debunk a poster on the internet for those who did not attend and might belive it
I was looking for them too, and I stayed until 3pm and didnt see them
zahavasdadParticipantHashomer Hatzair marches every year and they make a point of emphaszing their support for “religious equality”
Why hasnt that been protested
zahavasdadParticipantThere were 9 people at the “protest” they were about 15 policemen protecting them.
zahavasdadParticipantIll admit I thought the christians for Israel was a little weird, the man who was on the PA announce sounded like a Preacher in a Church
zahavasdadParticipantNK are allowed to protest because there is a 1st amendment in this country.
Contrary to whatever else might be posted, the counter-protest assembled about 9 (not 1000) NINE people and about 15 policemen to guard them.
I have the photos NK received their fewest representation that I remember, Ive seen in past years Pro-PLO groups protesting, even they were not there
zahavasdadParticipantpark a car in YOUR side of the driveway and leave it there.
He wont touch your car and will be forced to negotiate
zahavasdadParticipantActually I have a problem with ANYONE spending $180 on a pair of shoes.
And instead of trolling had you read my actual comments, I said specifically I have never and would never spend that money on MYSELF for such a pair of shoes, I hate spending more than $75 on a pair and Ill only spend that on something I can wear everyday to get the most use out of it.
However this was about using Tzedkah Money for $180 pair of shoes, If someone has the money and wishes to waste his own money that he earned it on such a pair, its one thing however its quite another if they are using Tzadekah to pay for it
zahavasdadParticipant$180 is Fancy Shoes for me, I have never and would never spend that much on shoes.
You need to learn to shop better and not learn to take Tzedkah for that
People need to lose the Gashmius if they are spending $180 on a pair of shoes
zahavasdadParticipant$100 for shoes???
Ive NEVER spent that much for anyone on a pair even at a better store
