Chassidus is a New Ideology no matter what you might think. Thats the reason the Vilna Gaon put its adhernts into Cherem. The idea of telling stories of Gedolim and singing and dancing instead of learning was very controversial in its time.

There are Chassidim who do not eat ANY Matza on Peseach except for the Sedarim for fear of it becoming Gebroachs and Hametz. There was an article about them on another site

The reason why people care is because “no man is an island” People mix with each other and Gebroach eaters and non-gebroach eaters will usually mix in some form either a family event. Shopping at the same store etc.

You are forced to pay more as the store for example needs to only stock non-gebraoch items which can cost more making it more difficult for people who dont observe to celebrate Peseach

I think we can all agree Rav Shlomo Zalman knows the Halacha and is a Yiras Shamayim.

I dont know who put out the Hagaddah since it was put out after his death, but it was likely his sons or grandsons (I am purely guessing here) or perhaps one of his big talmidim with the approval of the sons and grandsons, but Im sure the wet Matza was put in there with someone approval and that it was true

The point is whenever there is a chumra people say “Well chashuv rav So and So did it that way, dont you want to be like chashuv Rav So and So”

Well when a Rav doesnt do a Chumra people make all sorts of excuses why he did it . I think we can agree that Rav Shlomo Zalman did not take Culas and knew the Halacha well.

Its not in the regular Haggaddah, Its in the Haggadah of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auberbach. It came out after his death

In the Haggaddah of Rav Sholmo Zalman Auerbach, It talks about some of his minhaggim , like that he used to say the Mah Nishtana after all the kids said it or that he used to mix the Wine with grape juice.

It also says in his later years he would wet the Matza before eating it

I know people who were in such circumstances and they were all of a sudden treated very differently by the community, they were suddenly shunned and treated as person non grata and even after the problem was fixed, hurt feelings do not go away so easily

Lets be clear here, It is not a Kula or a B’Deved to eat it. It is Kosher. If you wish not to eat that is a Chumra. And the O-U unlike most Rabbanim actually went to Ecuador and Boliva to see the farms, did the research on the plant and how it is grown. You ask an expert on something, Someone who knows what it actually is . Personally I am not going to eat it because I dont like it, Its kind of bland, But enjoy your Quinoa if you want

Most non-charedi jews dont run for office and ignore the wishes of non-jews. Did Bloomberg or Schumer basically ignore every other group?

I am sure Bloomberg and Schumer got Anti-Semtic Hate mail (Bloomberg was especially hated for his anti-gun stance) and you did not see him complain

Not everything is anti-semitism. When you control the government. You are responsible for ALL citizens. If the Charedim want to be the Mayor and City Council of a city like Lakewood, they cannot ignore non jewish residents of the city.

I seriously doubt a Rav who really knew you would tell you that you MUST use the Hand Made Shumrah matza instead of the machine Shumrah matza ,if you really couldnt afford it. especially if you needed to borrow money to do it

It is not being Mekil using Machine Shumrah instead of Hand Made Shmurah. (Using regular Streits is being Makel)

DY What does the Machine Shmurah Cost. Last year it was about $7 or $8 a pound I think.

$5 a pound is alot especially for a large family

Gammit is correct, Its not really illegal, but Airlines do not allow it and if they find out they can disallow the ticket and cancel your account.

You are allowed to GIVE your miles to someone , so that is the loophole these places use, you give a ticket to someone and that person will then pay you.

Ive given a ticket to someone a few times, but I also flew with that person on the same flights so it did not raise a red flag, (Like you give your spouse or kids a ticket and fly with them or a friend and you fly somewhere together) however giving a ticket to someone and not flying with them does raise a red flag

There is no “Tragedy” in mass produced Matzas. In the olden days people starved and could barely afford the Matzas for the Sedar using the smallest possible shiurim. People litterally starved in those days. it is not a time to be fondly remembered

Today B’H most people can afford the Hand Shumrahs for the Sedarim alone. Its really only the rest of Pesach thats its an issue.

Regardless of what anyones says there is no Averirah to eat Machine Matza (Shmurah if you like) the rest of Peseach. You are not over a D’Oraysa for eating it.

You might be over a D’ORaysa of “Simchat Yom Tov” however if you worry about how you are going to pay for it or skimp on something else to pay for the Matza.

in reply to: HIGHWAY ROBBERY: Cost Of Shmura Matzah #1009093

Again DY Its a Chumra, If you are rich and can afford to eat the Hand Shumra the entire peseach, but most people CANNOT afford it. Pesech is expensive as it is already and people are struggling.

The people I know who eat Hand Shumra the entire Pesach get other people to pay for it because they cannot afford it (and these arent nessasarity poor people)

Ask your Rov,Is it better to spend the money on Hand Shumura for the entire Peseach or buy your wife a nice new outfit or spend it on better food Like a Roast that everyone can enjoy.

It is not a Zero Sum Game, if you spend it on Matza it wont be spend elsewhere

This does bring up another issue, There is no need to eat the Chazon Ish’s Shiur for everything. You can eat Rav Moshe’s Shiurim and its more than fine.

in reply to: HIGHWAY ROBBERY: Cost Of Shmura Matzah #1009090

Hand Made Shumrah is a CHUMRAH, The Machine Shamurah is more than fine, Almost No Posek is going to say you cant use it. And there is also no reason to eat Hand Shmurah the entire Peseach, you only need eat it for the Sedar. You can eat regular Streits Matza for the rest of the Holidays.

There is no reason for someone who can barely survive on Food Stamps and handouts to be spends $1000 or more on Matza (I know people who spend this kind of money on Matza and usually its someone else paying for it)

Machine Shumarah is cheaper than Hand Shmurah about 1/2 the price. It is perfectly fine and many say its actually better since human error is eliminated

There are “addictions” and there are “youthful indiscretions”

For example if someone in their youth went to McDonalds in a rebellious stage, that is not an addiction, that was an indiscretion, there is no need to tell someone you might have done such an act.

If you had gone to a casino a few times and played the slots dont worry about it and keep it secret. If you went regularly to Atlantic City and spent thousands of dollars there weekly, then that is an addiction and not an indiscretion

The Satmar Rebbe was known to be Anti-Zionist and after the 6 Day War many considered it to be a miracle. He of course did not and said Israel won in spite of Zionism and it wasnt a miracle.

Its clear most dont know what Linkedin is, Its not a site like FB where people “friend” each other and meet members of the opposite gender and engage in midless chatter. Its not a site where people send out 140 character messages to unknown people

Its a site for business networking. You go on that site to make business connections. when someone wants to connect with you on linkedin you can easily figure out if its a person you might want to connect with eithr now or in the future.

If you are not in business, its probably not a site you want to be on.

A Us senator cannot gurantee visas, that is the state departments authority under the executive branch of the government. Congress can pass laws allowing certain people asylum (Like Soviet Jews or Cubans).

Currently no such law exists for Israeli citizens and Israeli citizens unlike citizens of Europe need to apply for a visa to come to the US.

The Chilonim win either way, Either the Charedim are drafted and forced to work and get off government assistance or the Charedim leave the country and frankly I suspect the Chilonim (and many of the DL’s as well) would prefer they leave and would even help them pack.
