It is a big problem even if the skirt covers your knees. When I’m getting out of an SUV even if it has running boards no matter what kind of skirt I wear I always feel like its a problem. If its a loose skirt it tends to fly up. If its a straight skirt even if it covers my knee when Im sitting, getting out of a car is a whole different thing than sitting. You’re turning around and jumping down its really very hard to keep your knees covered and I try to hold my skirt down but it doesnt always work. Im still trying to figure out a solution.

What bothers me so much is the word “hey” that became the new “hello”. Hey Mrs. ___ how u doin’ or Hey Rabbi ____ are you busy now? The generations are changing so much. I dont think anyone ever said Hey Reb Moshe how are you. But I have heard people talk to Rebbeim like that nowadays i think its such a lack of derech eretz.

I sell perfume but for some reason i never heard of eau de Goq. Goq if you ever come out with your own scent let me know ill sell it to everyone in the CR! Chloe is very nice, J’adore, Versace, Gucci, D&G Light Blue, Daisy. I personally like Burberry Brit its very soft not too much. For all of you that were bothered by this thread perfume WAS created for a purpose and like everthing it can be used in the wrong way. It is assur for a man other than your husband to smell your perfume so dont overdo it.

eclipse i love the poem. We dont have the choice but if we did i would definately want to live in those times. The mesirus nefesh they had, like mod 80 said the respect for torah and mitzvos, the simplicity of their lives. They were really happy with their lives. We have 8 ft closets filled with clothing and complain we have nothing to wear. We kvetch when the washer load is done and we haveto switch it to the dryer. (They didnt complain when they had to wash it by hand!) Emptying the dishwasher is a major job. We may be living longer nowadays but what do we have to show for that after 120 years?

Mod Basic is your recipe with the meat of course. Each of my boys has their own “yeshivas” recipe that they like to make when they come home (one of them put red wine too its pretty good) but the one that everyone likes the best is the simple basic one with no bbq sauce or ketchup etc. Stick in some kishka and potato kugel before shabbos thats the best!

Whats wrong with curly hair?? Girls change themselves so much nowadays the guys dont even know what theyre marrying. They wake up one morning and she didnt have time to blow her hair they have the shock of their lives. Like oomis said keep it neat and clean. Its a very big turnoff when a girls hair smells not clean.

I ride bikes and I jet ski and I horseback ride. I wear a special skirt that is long enough and flarey enough and I wear leggings underneath. If done properly its not a problem. But the girls that wear short straight skirts and bike ride that is definately a problem. Do it but do it the right way.

Mod 80 if you add paprika and black pepper thats exactily my recipe. I went through years of trying all kinds of stuff my boys would add coke and hot pepper sauce and bbq sauce and we tried brown sugar and ketchup and anything else everyone reccomended. But after all those years were back to the basic. Cook it on a med flame for a long time and thats the best cholent there is!

estherhamalka i think you need to slow down a bit. You cant talk to someone like that no matter how strongly you feel about something. If a parent feels that they need to get away for a bit you cant judge them. Yes a parent is a parent but they are also a spouse. I dont think theres anything wrong with a couple having a bit of time for themselves and from what the op is saying its not something that happens very often. State your opinion if youd like but to lash out at her so strongly is totally inappropriate.

Feif Un your post reminded me of an incident last year that caused a tremendous chillul Hashem. I was in a park upstate with my kids and a huge group of girs around 4 or 5 busloads came by. They made a bbq for all the girls for lunch. I cant even begin to tell you what the park looked like when they left. Not only did they not clean ANYTHING up, they left burning grills all over the place. If you use the excuse that “they’re kids what do you expect”, what about the counselors? What about the head counselors? What kind of upbringing are we giving our children?? How can we expect them to be mentchen when they grow up if we dont teach them the correct way when they’re young?

I think its very nice to greet meshulachim with a smile. For the genuine ones who have to lower themselves to knocking on peoples doors and asking for money being greeted with a smile means so much. And if they are really in need of money theyll be happy with whatever you give them. But inviting them into you house is not always the right thing to do. I would always offer them a drink or something until the one horrible incident. One meshulach marched himself in and demanded a meal. I was very uncomfortable and i was home alone. He stayed way longer than he shouldve and acted very inappropriately. It was very close to shabbos and he asked a neighbor if he could stay for shabbos. In shul a few people recognized him as a known child molester from out of town. The Rosh Yeshiva paskened that even though it was shabbos he has to leave yeshiva lane right then. After that the Rabbanim got together & anyone collecting in that community had to have a dated paper signed by them. They would look into them and make sure they were genuine. Anyone that didnt have one we shouldnt let them in or give them anything.

Lakewood mom if there is no specific rate that she charges do what you can do. If the money would be a help to her then give her that. The shadchan that made one of our boys shidduch was a friend and wouldve felt bad if we wouldve given her cash so we found out what she needed and bought her a gift. Whatever works for you just something to show your appreciation.

Now that she got it she uses her “dollars” to save up for different accessories for the doll. I just wish we could go with the 25 cent coupon that worked 20 years ago with my older kids. Nowadays its a dollar coupon. Otherwise by the time she got her doll shed be using it for her children!

Popa i hear you. IMHO though i dont think american doll is really about looks. It doesnt have hair down to the floor or a shapey figure. Its a doll that the girls dress up and play with. All girls like to play mommy & dress up & im very makpid with what i bring into the house for the kids especially when it comes to dolls but i didnt feel this would be something to worry about chinuch-wise when i bought it.

Wow AZ you sure took alot out of those 2 little sentences. Yes she does exist she is a friend of our family. I never said anything negative about her i dont know how you got that. I do feel it is a very steep fee. Add that to wedding expenses its alot of money that not everybody has but then i guess they wouldnt use her if they couldnt afford her. What does bother me about it though is this: If a shadchan stands to make such a huge amount of money if the shidduch is successful i feel maybe she would be a bit to pushy in trying to make the shidduch work. Again this is just my opinion i am not at all saying this is the case but i would be hesitant to use someone that expensive just for that reason.

Wolf what you wrote is nothing to get slammed for but im probably going to get it for this one. Now just know that what im am saying doesnt apply to an emergency or to a handicapped situation.

I feel that someone who double parks needs to work on his middos. It takes a major amount of chutzpah to double park and to block someone who waited 15 minutes for a spot, went inside to shop and is now late but cant pull out because you are blocking her. And you are blocking traffic. And you are causing people to go around you into the oncoming traffic and that is putting so many lives in danger. I saw a horrible accident that happened when someone tried to go around a double parked car. And so what if you are late for mincha? That doesnt give you a right to do things wrong.

And the same applies to someone who cuts someone else off. Or goes through a red light. Or a stop sign. Aggressive drivers need to work on their middos first. What do you think someone says when he is cut off by a Frum Jew? I dont think it has any nice words in it. Besides the chillul Hashem it is really alot of chutzpa.

Chayav the point that you are making is a very good point. If a child is constantly told no he will go behind a parents back and do it anyway. It is up to a parent to know when to say no and when its really not so terrible and to let it go and tell the child yes. But when it comes to driving its a totally different story. There are many teenagers who are very responsible behind the wheel but unfortunately there are many who arent. And even the ones who are when they take their friends in the car they can be totally different drivers. There is a certain “power” a new driver feel when he has a wheel in his hand and when he has friends in the car that dont drive yet theres that urge to show off sometimes. When my kids first started driving i was very strict about not taking friends in the car. C”V if something would happen i would be the one that would have to answer to their parents.

Its not just the cooking. When you live in a dorm you have your 3 meals. When you get married you stock up your apartment and you have access to junk all day. My boys got married and both gained alot of weight. They did marry amazing cooks but when i saw the nosh closet and the fully stocked fridge i saw that had a huge part in them going up another size!

Why in the world do you think its worse than Barbie?? I have never seen one Barbie doll that i would let in my house. The American doll is not shapey at all. You can get plenty of normal looking outfits for it. What snobby about it? Like Real Brisker said its not any more snobby than a 800 dollar carriage. It is definately more expensive than a regular doll but the arm isnt going to fall off and the hair isnt going to shed all over your house. It isnt such a big deal. A nice lego set nowadays is just as expensive.

AinOd thank you for the advice. I am in Long Isand i dont know if the NYC laws are the same here. There have been a crazy amount of break-ins in Jewish homes here over the last few months. The police think its the same group of guys each time but they cant catch them. They are getting much more agressive lately. Before they would watch the house and only break in when noone was home but now theyre coming in any time of the day and night. A girl woke up the other night and a guy was standing in her room over her bed. There is a lecture tom night for the community on how to protect yourselves in these situations. Lets see what they recommend.

AinOd my father was killed by some loser that was not supposed to be carrying a gun. He walked into a store at the wrong time. My mother & some of my siblings do carry guns but they need it for their jobs. I was so scared after my father passed away i was afraid to walk out of the house but i dont think im the type of person that would actually be able to use it even if it was a choice of me or him. On a more humourous note i did once go to purchase a shotgun which is no big deal upstate if you have I D. Anyone can purchase one. I was upstate with 8 of the kids by myself and there was a huge black bear that kept coming to our bungalow every night. One night he ripped the screen down and came inside. The cops laughed when i called them they were walking around with their rifles out they’re like we didnt find a bear should we shoot a kid?? So i went to walmart the next day i told the guy i need a shotgun in case the bear came inside again. He looked at me and said would you actually shoot it? I was all like of course i have 8 kids sleeping in there! Then i thought about it and said no way i wouldnt be able to so i bought a foghorn and left. I guess it is helpful if you can actually use it. If youre afraid to use it you shouldnt be carrying one .

I dont know about halacha-wise but according to the law teachers and pediatricians definately have to report it if there is a suspiciion of child abuse. There was a case that we were involved in where a child called the police on a parent and the first question the police asked was if either one of the parents hit the child. I know a few of you guys here were saying that according to the law its not a problem to hit a child but at the first suspicion of physical abuse the children ARE removed from the home.
