Protests in Yerushalayim affects Jews in America who are traveling to Israel & have single and married children living there.

Let me ask the question this way: When a girl walks in front of a Frum boy, is she doing something similar to what the lady in your hypothetical case is doing if she KNOWS that there are men who will be deliberately watching her?

    Answer is NO!!!

Those who commented on this post,, have you ever spent time or spoken with a frum young married who is pregnant & with two or more children at home and whose husband is in the army or in reserves?

Well I have spoken and even spent time in Eleazar with such a group of women. Forget about the worry of your spouses safety and security, forget about doing all shopping, cooking, care taking, babysitting and combining this with a part time job – these women are completely overwhelmed, worried, and still the strongest branch on the tree.

My assumption is that most of the commentators did not socialize or even connect with those torah families whose husbands are in the army, so you are CLUELESS!

Two women had the EMT take them to the hospital since the husband did not return for the babies’ birth – many do not have parents, siblings or a support system surrounding them.

Forget about money!!!! that’s an entirely different chapter, its called borrowing and overdrawing from the bank.. Workplace whether its a yeshiva, school or computer job of their husbands pay them a minute amount of money when he is in reserves and will his parnassah be available when he return, is a good question,

During the last Gaza war, a friend’s daughter who lives in Ramot mentioned that during sirens – all the families went down to the shelter. This young lady’s husband was down in Gaza so each time she needed to get downstairs it was carrying 2 toddlers and an infant (Yes, neighbors were helping) & she mentioned that it is far quicker to descend to the shelter when you have a husband to help.

You are TOTALLY unaware of their overwhelming ‘Mesirus Nefesh’ and they are not looking for your sympathy or pity for sure!!

OMG — Ask all the Rabbanim how did the peace loving, angelic, friendly, kind, generous, ARABS of Chevron’s massacre of 1929, pogroms of the Galilee in the 1940s, & daily terror attacks during the British Mandate of Palestine become the murdering, stabbing, beheading, evil ARABS of today????

The mufti of Jerusalem was not a changed man because of the Balfour declaration or the doctrines of Zionism — he hated the religion of Hashem that stood in contrast to the emptiness of Mohammed’s religion.

To quote Rav Yaakov Kaminetsky zt”l in 1970 when the Rabbonim were on a plane hijacked by Arab terrorists, ” we do not negotiate with terrorists, this is a Milchamet Mitzvah which began in 1948 and will end with the coming of Mashiach”.

Houses are quite a bit cheaper.

As a resident the toll over the Verrazona bridge is in the $3 range and cheaper if you are carpooling. Shopping, parking, schools, shuls are accommodating and PLEASE DO NOT TURN into a Flatbush-Boro Park kehilla. We like to think of Staten Island more as a Far Rockaway/Queens kehilla.

This is a no-brainer. Just as Jews who lived in Europe davened for the Czar, his health and his army even more so should we as Jews pray for the IDF soldiers and their successes. Nowhere or no one said that they are the sole (soul) protectors, they are the “shlichim/messengers” of the one above.

IDF soldiers have saved Jews that were hijacked in Entebbe and they are on call for Jews in trouble throughout the world.

If we as Klal Yisroel would have been more attentive to Hakaras Hatov to the IDF and the government’s support of Limud Hatorah we would not be in the fix that we are in now!!!

ZAHAVSDAD You surely wouldn’t expect an American to move to the hotbed of Anti-Semitism in Europe. Belgium is now requiring schools to teach their core curriculum and France has the largest emigration to Israel, America or other countries. So don’t think that is an option.

Maybe a move to Houston, Dallas, Milwaukee or Minneapolis, Providence where cost of living and tuitions are much lower.

The letter to editor in Yated was honest, accurate and frightening. Especially when you need tutoring, therapies for your children, the sums are huge.

He neglected to include household maintance….my leaking toilet and broken boiler valve plus cracked window pane add much to the monthly expenses. You can adjust prices of clothing, food and recreation yet the other prices are givens especially with the new OBAMA MISCARE – how will medical expenses get paid?

Daven, have histadlus, train for parnassah and live simply.

Happen to love colorful and patterned socks on both genders. Guys do not have many opportunities to show style, so in CC its the ties and socks. Go for it!!!! Just don’t lose them in the washer they are expensive to replace.

Support is needed when marrying any Yeshiva boys.

BTW many parents will share support from both sides (girl & boy) plus many many CC guys do their histadlus in parnasah too. There are those that tutor, lein on Shabbos, selling esrogim, hashgacha, involved with Senior nursing homes and kiruv activities.

Also CC life in Queens is more on the simple side than in other larger Yeshivish kehillas. The cars, apartments and furnishing are nothing special and Jewelry is not abundant. Simpler life style in all.

Leather has always been in style. Our shoes are leather, our belts are leather our fall&winter gloves are leather, pocketbooks & attache cases are leather, billfolds, purses are leather.

Leather is a durable and stretchable material. Leather being associated with males is the Hollywood Motorcycle Gang look.

Tznius is tznius,,, stop adding materials (cotton knits, sweats, silks, lace, leather, seude) to the formula.

Queens, Bklyn, Touro, Sara Schneirer (Mercy College program), ITT, Bulka, Kingsborough (in Manhattan Beach), etc.

Best to live at home and have a solid chevrah to study and take classes with.

A child’s access to WIFI is a dangerous action, do everything you can to disable through password, filters etc., in addition a foundation of education, knowledge is a necessity for the youth.

If the device is for viewing children’s videos, playing games etc, you can buy a device that has NO WIFI capacity.

Don’t expect sincere & well-thought out answers on this chat thread, majority of responders are looking for a laugh or to show their ‘kannuos’ attitude. With success,

“Frum people at Harvard tend to go off the derech”.

There have been and are frum students in Harvard, Boston has many Chabad and other Judaic centers and serious learning programs. Since most religious Harvard students are serious and attending for academic reasons they are not the ‘partying bunch”. There is a Boston Kollel and families to connect to.

Many yeshivos including Chofetz Chaim, Ner Yisroel, Shaar hatorah, Torah Vdas (& others) have the ability to issue a BTL degree after usually 4 years of post high school learning (average age of 21-22). With this BTL degree, various Graduate Programs are available, some need additional prerequisites when you apply. This might be the easiest path for higher learning and professional degrees. Many of the online or CLEP courses in essential subjects are looked upon as garbage.

There is a time in every bochur/yungerleit life when they discover that learning full time in yeshiva has diminishing returns. That is DECISION TIME!! If the decision is to continue on a reduced learning schedule with time for vocational/educational/internship in a parnassah, then seek advice and plan for it.

Staying in yeshiva with no passion, desire or accomplishment is the worse decision ever. BH presently there are many mosdos, yeshivos, programs that combine secular and learning or Educational endeavors in a ‘workable environment’.

ONE MAIN POINT to the letter writer.

If you are looking to be published as a ‘letter to editor’ you can NOT submit a thesis, book long letter. Good luck to your future writing career. Try AMI they are more up your alley.

If you check Siyums that take place in other countries you will see that there are Nationalistic themes that are brought up. For instance in two Siyum Hashas that occured in Israel, a tefillah for Israeli soldiers, terror victims and those lost at sea (In the Dakar sub), these are Nationalistic concerns.

An anthem should have been said just as a special tefillah for southern residents of Israel should have been said.

It seems to be that most of the commenters here are less than 25yrs old, if that old.

Recreation, leisure and hobbies is and was always part of Avodas Hashem. Music from the time of the LEVIIM, running and jogging from Naftali and his tribe and boating, sailing from Zevulun crowd. Seriously our many gedolim were music composers, artists and poets. Isnt that leisure and recreation? As one who spend a few summers in camp bais yakov in ferndale, new york in the late 1970s (I know your grandparents werent even married then..LOL), the fierce daily and weekly RACKET BALL games that Rav Nisson Alpert ztk”L played against other Rabbonim (most still alive & physically fit)was super amazing, enjoyable and competitive. They all owned a good pair of sneakers and T shirts.

In Eretz Yisroel it is frequent for Rabbanim, Talmedei Chochamin to partake in heavy-duty tiyulim, with climbing, jumping and ending in a swim. In Slabodka and Europe, swimming was the most enjoyed sport and CHESS was played daily among talmidim and teachers. Have you see the pics of all the REBBE’s playing violin at hadlakos neiros? Woodworkcrafts (building shtenders, seferim shelves), silver smiths, and designing artistic windows for shuls was a hobby and parnassa. Horsebackriding, carriage treks were a knowledge of most. The interests (carpentry, silver designs, chess, swimming, horseriding) change with the times. Now it is basketball, tennis, keyboards & drums, jogging marathons, suduki, crossword puzzles & riddles, Settler & Card games.

Stop fooling yourselves and rewriting history into 24/7 sitting and shteiging. Its a new phenomenom, created just recently. There are yichidim who are dedicated to 24/7 schedule and they should be admired BUT not copied by others. Hashem gave us life, health, happiness and tremendous opportunities to find avenues to be an Aved Hashem through the physical, spiritual, emotional and artistic avenues. Find yours and excel.

The best way to learn to drive is to register for a DRIVERS EDUCATION course when in high school. I found the lectures interesting, informative and very useful for ‘real live driving’. The videos were terrific and covered material that is helpful till today. The lecture spoke all about the road test and what the point system is. DO you know that most teens fail for lack of observation? Remember 3 mirrors and the BLIND SPOT.

Open Rabbi Falk’s book on tznius – think it’s called “oz vehadar levusha” & you’ll be surprised. The same halachos apply to everyone.

This book is TZNIUS according to Rav Falk, not according to halacha lemaasah. He interjects much of his own ‘spirit of the law’. Following half of what he writes will have you look like an aidel bas yisroel.
