On the other hand, then there is no accountability and its easy to attack others, etc.

Which is precisely what you’re doing.

    LF, you’re welcome.

I think we should nickname this thread the mush room.

I did not mean it sarcastically.

If anything, I fell for the thread. I was intimidated by the OP’s implication of cowardice, and revealed much more of my identity than I usually do.

I am a plumber. I am female. I live in Kalamazoo (which, by the way, is not really a zoo).

I post here because it gives me a deep sense of satisfaction to insult anonymous people.

The fact that I (used to) post with no identifying issues says that I’m afraid of meeting popa in real life. This is a very healthy thing, almost as healthy as spinach (but with less of a chashash of tolaim).

Biased towards people with that view point.

    I know you were.

I suppose we can continue to debate my intent, but there’s really no point.

I wasn’t challenging his sense of reality, I was challenging his viewpoint of reality.

What does “viewpoint of reality” mean? If you simply disagree, you could have just said, “Hakatan, I (dare I insert the word respectfully?) disagree with you. I think that (the vast majority of?) most secular people would appreciate Mishnayos”.

And I find your defense somewhat humorous, if I may politely say so.

I think you must be misunderstanding me, because I am being serious.

Biased about what? I didn’t really express an opinion about Yom Hazikaron and how the secular would perceive Mishnayos. Probably some would appreciate it, and some wouldn’t.

I was addressing your response to Hakatan. It was clever.

At the same time, you probably could have expressed your disagreement without challenging his sense of reality.

But people claiming that aren’t out for blood.

No, for many it’s an understandable emotional issue (we’ve had threads about it, and I’ve dealt with their tayna IRL as well), but this solution, as well as the sheirut leumi idea, shows the illogicality of it.

I don’t think such a program will take off as the standard. You’re asking bochurim to decide at age 18(?) that they will never develop the hasmadah to learn full time. That’s too young, IMO.

DaMoshe, you misunderstand me. You said nobody called it a Yom Tov, and then called it a holiday (which comes from the words “holy day”).

I hear your point, but I have some doubts.

I hope it doesn’t give the impression that those who choose to remain in exclusive learning yeshivos aren’t doing their fair share.

I don’t know what the qualty of shiurim and learning will be.

I don’t know how much it helps those who have been unsuccessful at keeping sedorim, as it’s designed to be a serious learning program. In fact, I’m not sure who it is the best solution for; how many bochurim can keep two sedorim but not three? And what about the other four years?

It doesn’t answer the taynos that chareidim don’t put themselves at risk (the same way the demand for sheirut leumi doesn’t).

    DaMoshe, define “holiday”.

Sam, the terms mukdam and m’uchar wouldn’t be used for Yomim Tovim since we don’t push them off, except Purim, and we do use the word “makdimim” for krias Megillah.

“Yom Haatzomos” would be offensive to someone who thinks the day has kedushah, but I don’t see how it insults fallen soldiers. It’s not Yom Hazikaron.

I disagree with popa on two fronts. First of all, an aufruf is a simcha (and no, Shabbos kallah doesn’t compare), and I think it is proper for someone to attend and participate in his son’s simcha (I hope popa’s son treats his son-in-law as his own child).

Also, I don’t think popa should be telling his son what to do. If he is old enough to choose a husband for his daughter, he is old enough to make his own decision to go to the aufruf.

Dina diMalchusa is not pulling halacha from ones belly.

    The application might be.

Look, we live in a country which has been very good to us, and I don’t think we should be breaking their laws, I don’t think Jroot should be illegally broadcasting, and I don’t think having inspirational content is a valid justification. I just don’t like the fact that people are pulling the dina d’malchusa and geneiva cards where they probably don’t apply. Save them for where they do apply.

Even if you claim its not stealing, its still Dinah D’Malchusa Dina and would then fall under the same category as running a red light , blowing a Stop Sign because you are late to minyan

You shouldn’t use halachic terminology without researching if it really applies.

Would you also compare it to going 60 in a 55 mph zone?
