Nice.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTach V’tat may not be universally commemorated but it is commemorated and considered the norm to do.
I don’t understand your point. Are you claiming more people commemorate tach v’tat than the Holocaust? I don’t think that’s true.
And “the Shabbos is not a commemoration for the crusades”. Well we certainly are saying a tefillah about it EVERY shabbos year round, so if those Rishonim that instituted that, then SURELY the Holocaust which was multiple times more horrific should perhaps more certainly have a specific tfilah every shabbos. Just like the crusades.
So you’re making a new point – that we should commemorate the Holocaust every Shabbos just as we do the Crusades. I can’t speak for anyone else, but when I say Av Harachamim, I don’t specifically have in mind those who died al kiddush Hashem during the Crusades, I have in mind all those who died al kiddush Hashem throughout the generations, including in the Holocaust.

No, in the Coffee Room, people express opinions about subjects they know nothing about.

Maybe the question is on us – why don’t we value our children’s Jewish education enough to pay their rebbeim and moros a fair wage commiserate with the value they are providing?
As far as part time=low salary, tell that to professional athletes who work half a year and get paid millions.
Instead of bashing those who may very well be the ticket to our Olam Habo, perhaps learn to appreciate the tremendous skill and dedication which the vast majority of mechanchim bring.
BTW, most mechanchim I know take summer jobs out of financial necessity, despite the fact that the intense nature of their jobs takes an emotional and physical toll well beyond the hours they spend in the classroom, and they could really use the break to recharge.
July 26, 2018 7:43 am at 7:43 am in reply to: Yeshiva Tuition – question for executive directors #1565298☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantParents send their kids to yeshiva because they don’t really have a choice.
I think one could have a better attitude and view it as a privilege to give one’s children a Jewish education.
Of course, it is an obligation as well, but still, why does that put the impetus on the schools?
Someone gave an analogy of an ice cream store. Ok, poor analogy, because ice cream is a luxury, and a Jewish education is a necessity.
How about a grocery, a landlord, a clothing store, etc.? Are they required to operate at a loss because they deal in necessities?
Tuition is, for many families, a tremendous financial burden, and people are frustrated. I get that. But it’s really unfair to bad-mouth the mosdos which actually do give many parents breaks and educate their children for below the actual cost, because of a misguided perception that they are obligated to swallow even more.
Should parents have less kids because yeshiva costs are too high?Someone making that choice depends on their level of bitachon. Hashem prepares the finances for each child as they’re born.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAccording to an old NYT article, in the view of Dr. Max Weinreich, who “notes that Yiddish includes a few words from Old Italian and Old French…, Yiddish was invented by Jews who had arrived in Europe with the Roman army as traders, later settling in the Rhineland of western Germany and northern France. Mixing Hebrew, Aramaic and Romance with German, they produced a unique language, not just a dialect of German.”

That’s a really bad idea to call his predictions nevuah. If his predictions were nevuah, he was a navi sheker ch”v, because some did not come true, most notably the immediate arrival of Moshiach.
July 4, 2018 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm in reply to: The world is in a state of Geula- and don’t misunderstand us! #1552524☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat was the Rebbe’s fervent wish.

He should have reconsidered his thought that everything that was needed had been accomplished.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAt Mincha yesterday, someone’s ringtone went off. It was set to Hashem Melech (which is actually a goyish song), and everyone just stopped in the middle of Shemoneh Esreh and started dancing.

If it gets separated from its parents at the border.

Agreed. No one is happy about it.
Nobody in your circles can seem to be objective enough to admit that the Rebbe was wrong. He didn’t guess or speculate that Moshiach was coming immediately, he stated it as a certainty.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy suspicion is that Costco chiseled the price down to where Solomon’s makes very little per lb. Costco orders what they want, but Solomon’s only fills the order when they can fill all of their other customers’ orders as well.
In times of high demand, e.g. before Yom Tov, Solomon’s can’t fill all orders and will give priority to their customers who pay their regular price.
Again, just a theory.

I’m short of time now. Pull out a Yad Moshe and search, as I would do if I had time.
June 28, 2018 1:01 am at 1:01 am in reply to: Can following a Chumra become a Chilul Hashem #1548722☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAvi, read it again. You are wrong.
You’re also wrong to apply safek d’rabbonon l’kula to put yourself in the situation of safek l’chatchilah when it’s avoidable.
Furthermore, hechsherim don’t simply certify that something is kosher after the fact. They arrange that it should be produced on the best possible manner.
Technically, they can certify a non Jewish produced item with a small amount of treif in it, but the reliable ones don’t. Rav Moshe calls it m’chuar. Chazal say batel b’shishim, but that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to put yourself in that situation, even when technically, ein m’vatlin issur doesn’t apply.

…while the garbage today is surface level.
Another contradictory statement.
Just stop already. Just follow the Torah because Hashem commanded, and daven for Moshiach. Trying to force Moshiach didn’t work in the 90’s, and won’t work today. If he comes (hopefully b’karov), it’ll be because Hashem decrees that it’s the time.
Meanwhile, you’re making a mockery of the concept of geulah.
