Actually, it did. The economy has been growing since June 2009.

It didn’t. Of course the GDP grew – more government spending equals a higher GDP. I’m talking about actual economic growth not induced growth. With stimuluses of such magnitude,we should hit an all-time high combined with consumption and investment. If you want to declare Keynesian dead (and that means the liberal fiscal policy) because it’s an indication of severe complete crowding out and lagging, fine. I gave them the benefit of doubt and placed it in fear. I blamed fear for the future as the indicator for bringing down the economy and keeping it down. That is supported by the fact that companies are borrowing to stash away the money. Make America a better business environment and it will change.

The healthcare bill was basically a bailout of the health insurance industry. That isn’t anti-business. Neither was the bailout of the auto industry.

Bailouts are not pro-business – they’re anti-business. It means more corporation and capital tax (to pay for it), more regulation (well, you’re indebted!) and higher interest rates (deficit). A business that fails should go bankrupt. That will give other (small) businesses a chance and remember, capitalism is the way to go! Only an entirely free market can create competition and confidence.

No, it isn’t. Interest rates remain at historic lows. There is no inflation except for a few cartel-controlled commodities such as petroleum; the problem in much of the US is DEflation. We actually need some inflation to get homeowners out from under water and the deficit can help.

It isn’t? for the first time in history people are talking about a government default. Interest rates are lower than it should be because the feds are trying to create a monetary policy. Yes, Ben Bernanke fears a deflation but that’s not because of the dollar, it’s because of the economy. A dead economy leads to deflation but high debt leads to high interest rates. It’s common sense: If more people (or government)want loans, the stakes are higher! If China, the other lenders and bond investors will have less confidence in the US economy (and they will if things continue like this) – it will go up faster than a space shuttle.

There has yet to be such a tax cut.

Well, it just makes sense. That’s the reason why communism and socialism failed. Additionally, I gave you the numbers – look at them. The Bush tax cuts nearly generated the revenue it had before the tax cuts went into effect (while the economy increased immensely); had the banking (housing) crisis not occurred (because of the Carter/Clinton mortgage doctrine), it would’ve already made up the loss. That just shows that less taxes means a higher GDP which eventually results in more tax revenue.

This exposes your ignorance on economics. “Might” spend it??? Have you ever been unemployed, with no savings? The tax cuts to businesses and zillionaires will get stashed away (as you mention, companies are hoarding cash) while tax cuts to the poor and unemployment insurance gets spent, increasing consumer demand and giving businesses a reason to produce.

As I’ve indicated, an extension of the unemployment insurance (will get people to stay unemployed in addition to work off-the-books and) will just create a bigger underground economy. And yes, say they’ll spend it, but it still isn’t a direct effect on the GDP.

Charlie, I’ve put much in a nutshell. Obviously your (non-) questions were just some off-topic throw-balls to distract, that proves my point that it’s either tax cuts permanently extended or nothing.

Trying my best, some of them would indeed make good presidents, but let’s review their issues one-by-one:

    Jeb Bush

Had his last name been Smith, he’d probably be the front-runner for the GOP nomination and most probably our next president. Jeb, a former governor from Florida, a vital swing-state, is competent, intelligent and few in the nation understand politics as he does. He attracts the Tea Partyers as well as the moderates and can unify them to rally behind him. A former businessman , Jeb would bring business experience as well as executive experience to the Oval Office. The years he worked for his father as well as running his own campaigns, gave him the political experience needed to run a good and disciplined campaign (something an Obama opponent should have). This is in addition to managing Ileana Ros-Lehtinen’s campaign and serving as chairman of the Republican Party of Dade County. Bush’s education policies and legislation received high-marks throughout the nation (education might become an issue in the decade to come) and he has foreign policy credentials as well. Charismatic and an eloquent speaker, Jeb has the advantage of courting the Hispanic vote (because of his Hispanic wife) and is popular among Blacks (although it won’t do much against Obama’s popularity among them – talk about racists!). Jeb is an amazing fundraiser and is a sought-after speaker for policy. He also has high-approval ratings and strong name recognition. In other words: he’s just perfect to be president.

However, his name is Bush and that’s the problem. Although Obama might overshadow George W. Bush and improve his ratings (as he already did) many will still refrain from voting for “Bush.” Conservatives are still angry at “Bush” (41 & 43) for betraying their principles and although Jeb has more conservative credentials, he will have to make a strong case to overcome their suspicions. Liberals are also angry at “Bush” for ‘stealing the elections’ in 2000 with many liberals claiming Jeb actually orchestrated it. Additionally, people don’t want political dynasties any longer. Many claimed that Hillary lost the nomination because of her “Clinton” surname and Bushes hail from even a more prominent family. Many voters would rather vote for someone with a passionate story (like Obama’s) than someone that was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

    Bobby Jindal

    Bobby is another fabulous candidate.

A Governor with sky-high approval ratings, Bobby would be the youngest president in history, if elected (in 2012). His youth is also more attractive than Obama’s (in 2008) because Bobby has a whole lot of political and executive experience (serving as a Representative before becoming Governor of Louisiana as well as administration positions).

He would also be the first Indian-American to become president of the US and will most likely attract minorities. He will also attract both conservatives and moderates. Bobby will have a strong say on Healthcare (which will definitely be an issue in 2012) given that he has served as the DHH in Louisiana and did a great job increasing health services while cutting costs of Medicaid and was then nominated to be the assistant Secretary of Health under President Bush. Jindal has also shown leadership capabilities at the Hurricane Gustav and gulf spill disasters.

Perhaps Jindal’s main liability is his charisma and speech performance. Although he doesn’t lack name recognition, he isn’t very popular around the country and his lackluster appearances won’t help. He needs to perform well at the debates to capture the nomination and it might prove bad for him when debating Obama. Additionally, although Bobby has a business background and was effective in creating a surplus out of a deficit in Medicaid in Louisiana, some will rather have one with more economic experience. But, I agree, he’s definitely one to look at.

I agree with Moderator-42. This is the Yeshiva World and Kosher be it. I never joined a chat room other than the Coffee Room. I’m here because I know that it isn’t simply a chat room. There are no links to undesirable sites, no private messages option, no Lashon Hora and no personal attacks. I also believe that without moderation the coffee room would sometimes look like a Kindergarten.

However, I have one suggestion: When the Mods edit/delete a post, they should specify the issue. Whether it should be seen on his dashboard/profile or email inbox, doesn’t matter. I know that it sometimes leaves you thinking why? I recently posted my opinion about the bodyscans, it had no offensive material (maybe I used some strong language – as I sometimes do, but nothing offensive and of course no foul language) and I got a message like this: DELETED BY MODERATOR . I’m still wondering why. I believe that a message or notice will notify the member what the issue is and he will be able to correct it. It will also give us the feeling of the standard the moderators want and will eventually make the moderators’ job easier.

ronrsr, are you serious? Why would America elect an 80 year old to be president? And why would the Democrats nominate a looser as their candidate? It’s as if someone would suggest McCain on the GOP ticket!

Additionally, why would Hillary agree to be VP? If she has presidential aspirations she would seek the nomination (and would very likely win it), why would she be a back-seater with no political future (except if he dies in office)?

Ender, that’s actually an interesting choice. Marco Rubio, the upcoming star of the Republican Party, has the advantage of carrying Florida as well as getting much Hispanic support. He’s articulate, well-spoken and has a passionate story. A tough and effective speaker in the Florida House, Rubio would have more experience in 2012 than Obama had when he was elected president. Mike Pence, also a Tea-Party favorite, is one of the leaders in the Republican Congress and has been mentioned as a possible presidential contender. Pence also has the advantage of carrying Ohio, another important swing-state, given that his district borders the state.

The question here is: would the Americans want to do this celebrity thing over again? Would they be ready to elect another inexperienced leader and have a ticket with no executive experience? Additionally, although Rubio would probably be able to win the Republican nomination, does he have a good message and achieves high-marks in the Senate, he would probably opt for a more traditional candidate. Obama will likely try to paint him as a Tea-Party extremist and Pence as the veep would probably give Obama more fuel to his claims. I also think that Rubio, a freshman, would try to pick someone with more name-recognition than a Representative (as Obama did with Biden). Otherwise, I’m all for it. I just think I’d like my pick (to be disclosed soon) somewhat better.

As to your follow-up question: It really depends who the candidates are. If the independent is center-right, he’ll ruin it for the Republicans, and if he’s center-left, he will take more Democratic votes. If the Republican is a moderate and the Democrat is a liberal, the Democrat will most probably lose votes to the independent and vice-versa. I believe that in 2012 (with Obama on the Democratic ticket) and the election about the economy and anti-Obama, the Democrats will benefit from an independent (especially one like Bloomberg or Crist).

Joseph Farah’s (WND) dream ticket is similar to that of anonforthis’s pick: Demint-Bachman.

Talking about Limbaugh on a ticket, Palin didn’t rule out running with Glenn Beck.

I believe that most Democrats wish Obama drops Biden and takes Hillary as his running mate. The Democrats don’t want a primary; it’s a definite loss. A Clinton win would anger much of the Democratic base, most notably the minorities. If Obama squeezes a victory, he will head into the general election quite damaged. This would probably also be the first time an incumbent president would be challenged by his base and not by the extremists in his base.

As to a Romney-Christie ticket. It sounds good. They are both moderates that will appeal to the center while Christie has the Tea Party activists on board. Romney has a long resume and with the economy being the prime issue in 2012, a businessman in his stature has nothing to lose. However, I doubt Christie can sit backstage; he needs to sit at the driver’s seat. Additionally, both are northeastern politicians and they would rather want to balance the ticket. Romney also has the issue of Romneycare he’d have to defend.

A23, many Republicans wish they stay on the ticket as is. It would probably be their best chance to take the White House back.

I’m not seeking to incriminate this couple, I just want to highlight some of the many questions Rabbi Hoffman has left unanswered (or made). People out there believe a judge (that had the evidence in front of her and presented it to the camera) more than just another investigative journalist or Rabbi that disputes her claims (without showing us his proof). We are an Am Hanivchar and we should look to protect our image not tarnish it. We ought to give decent and adequate explanation if we seek to defend a Chillul Hashem.

Rabbi Hoffman made a silly and sloppy attempt to cover up the Chillul Hashem thus making it worse.

First and foremost, why didn’t Heidi (heidihud123) use this version on her attempt to defend herself on YouTube?

Why didn’t the couple say this story when the judge demanded an explanation as well as the reporter in the hallway, as many others do? Why would they use she is in France if they have a better defense? And to those claiming that you’re not allowed to question the judge on the program: Accusing the judge for being a liar, is permitted?

Why, when asked, didn’t Heidi say that the wig she was wearing was a replacement (as every innocent, Masiach Lefi Tumo, would say)?

If the judge used the receipt to call the company, why and how did she call the other company? And what company has no one in the office (with a computer and data) during business hours? Forwarded to a cellphone? Stinks!

If she did indeed have all information (presumably in her cellphone) why didn’t she have info on the other wig while having info on a prior purchase of $3,000 (and details such as the wig length)?

Why did they claim that the girl only spoke Spanish (why should a cleaners be hysterical when calling a customer)?

Why did their story about running down to the store contradict (and who doesn’t run down instantly when 3K is at stake)?

Why did Heidi try to indicate that the wig on her head (long one) is 5K while the damaged one was three?

Why didn’t they provide a second receipt that proves a purchase of a replacement wig (because that’s what you do at a lawsuit)?

Sent all her wigs to Israel, yeah right. Where’s her ‘special occasion’ wig?

Last but not least, if their loss was only $1,500, why were they suing for 3K?

Rabbi Hoffman, nice try but I Dont buy it, and no apologies.

For once I actually agree with Dr. Hall; however, I am suspicious of his refutation. Mr. Gestetner seems like an arrogant and incompetent individual who needs to do some homework before he blows his horn. His comment about the heroes of the holocaust underlined his inept understanding of history and facts. Where in Jewish history (out of Israel) do we see an uprising in the levels of the Warsaw Ghetto? Additionally, it is documented everywhere. One must be blind, literally, to miss it.

I believe that Mr. Gestetner’s comments were offending to me and many in the Jewish community and he needs to apologize. I wouldn’t bother with every individual making an offensive comment, but being that he has a following in the Hasidic community with an influence on those without means to news other that the phone hotlines and newspapers he contributes to, I am bothered by it. I understand that Mr. Gestetner wants an Al Sharpton in our midst, but we say: thanks but no thanks!

As to Charlie, I really question your sincerity here. I wonder if it was a liberal, how you would react.

Even if someone called Georgie and confirmed it (which I don’t believe – every company places a label) with them, the story stinks. A mid-range Georgie doesn’t cost 3K. It’s nearly impossible that this chic woman should only have one wig ten years after her marriage (and look at how she stumbles). They forgot (or had slightly different accounts) what had happened after the phone call with the cleaners (she said they ran down there). They lied about her language abilities (she spoke English quite well and why in the world would she speak Spanish?). They brought a false receipt (Georgie’s can’t answer the date question if she bought two wigs at their place – look at her response and see it for yourself). They made absolutely no attempt to answer her charge neither for the judge nor for the interviewer, and, yes, appearance and facial expressions speaks volumes!

We should denounce this couple for using the facade of Orthodox-Jews and tarnishing our image. There’s no reason to defend them. They ruined it for us. We lost our credibility for some time now. If they want to defend themselves, let them come out in the open with a sensible explanation or apology.

I really tried being Dan Lekaf Zchus but it’s nearly impossible.

While I do agree with the couple that it was a misunderstanding (I won’t accuse them of making this whole thing up), I agree with the defendants that the girl speaks a comprehensible english. Thus, making the language barrier an issue is disgusting and horrible. When a wig of 3K is at stake you don’t rely on sign language.

Additionally, did you realize how the woman suggests that they immediately ran over (as the judge wanted to know) while the husband sort of cut her off and contradicted her tale?

Notice how she only has one good wig (which she was wearing at the time) and a fall (which wasn’t in question), yet had another one that was washed. You can say that her confusion and stuttering came from appearing on national TV or appearing before a judge, but it doesn’t seem likely for someone that agreed to appear on the show.

It seems quite interesting and weird for the woman to make a claim that a mid-range wig costs $3,000 (as she muttered under her breath without confidence). While it’s true that a non-Jewish judge won’t know that much about wigs but it can be easily verified.

I highly doubt that a long wig washed in a washing machine (not dry cleaners) would shrink, it might tangle but not become short, especially when the net doesn’t appear to have shrunk.

I am horrified at their claim that Georgie was in France at that time. Regardless of how they had that information, Georgie is a company and its employees might very well know the inventory, sales history and products better than its respective owners.

For some reason, the facial expressions all along gave me the instinct that the couple was lying while the Hispanic girl was saying the truth. While the latter had a face of sincerity and a story that made sense, the plaintiff’s story had many flaws. I had the feeling all along that the couple was lying (and I believe that the judge felt the same) but I didn’t know it was that bad.

I will give them the benefit of doubt that there was some sort of misunderstanding originally (my guess is that she didn’t realize the wig was missing till much later. She, therefore, misunderstood that woman and told her to wash it. After she discovered she attempted to retrieve it only to learn that it was too late). The cleaners still had no business washing the wig. The couple realized that they don’t have the receipt so they replaced it with another one (that was purchased at Georgie’s in May for 3K. They figured that it wouldn’t be bad to get more than the original cost of the wig. However,a this is perjury and on national TV!

BOTTOM LINE: It’s utterly embarrassing and humiliating. This couple caused a huge Chillul Hashem and tainted us on national TV! There’s no reason to defend them. They are the rotten apples from within us. Shame on Mendy and Heidi! As to their last name, for many watching the show it was Orthodox-Jew.

Charlie, there’s no reason to wait another year and to predict what you call hypocrisy. Look back at the 2008 elections when the most inexperienced person in modern history, a person with absolutely no executive experience (unlike Woodrow Wilson) and hardly any elective experience was nominated for president on the Democratic ticket. Those hypocrites criticized the Republicans for choosing an effective governor with the highest approval ratings in the nation as their veep. Oh, I forgot. Obama did have executive experience – his campaign.

However, it isn’t only his inexperience, it’s his views and values. Remember! His approval ratings tanked long after his policies were denounced by the public. He forgot that a president can’t vote present.

I predict, however, that many Republicans will take her inexperience into account. You’re going to hear those claims time and again at the primaries if she decides to run.

Charlie, thanks for proving my point.

As to the recession (brought upon us due to the housing crash – Clinton-Dodd-Frank trio), I see actual numbers. I won’t wait to see the actual fixed GDP report to know that we’re in a recession, I already see the jobs report. For me a recession is when people can’t find a job. I don’t care about the GDP driven up by more government spending (expenditure). And all this is after the trillions spent to “stimulate” the economy. Charlie, I don’t own a TV either, nor do I listen to talk-radio; however, your spin of the news gives me the things I’d hear on the mainstream media and on Air America. What stimulated the economy after Bill Clinton’s recession if not the tax cuts? What brought us the prosperity for the past two and a half decades if not Reagan’s tax cuts. What did JFK claim as the best stimulation for the economy? What did FDR promote and promise when he ran for president?

And lest I forget, where was the bi-partisan approach all along? Are the Republicans those that ‘obstructed’ the economic growth or a bipartisan group? We had five Senators from the Democratic-caucus voting against President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their ‘remedy’ to fix the economy and deficit.

Indeed, being Menachem Avel isn’t just mumbling Hamakom Yenachem…, as Reb Moshe and many others say, you must actually console them with words. However, my suggestion is: don’t play psychiatrist. ConcernedMember, perhaps you can enlighten me. I’m still trying to figure out where I come into the picture together with Joseph, Helpful and Brisker?

Can anyone explain to me why this thread is important? What good will generate from this? Let everyone do what he feels is right (according to his Da’as Torah, of course) and everything will be just fine.

I picked one up in Pomegranate and I’ve been seeing ads on websites.

I also saw ads on a website – the YWN Coffee Room.

If you realized, the promoters of this new magazine (on this thread) joined the Coffee Room for this thread… We might be stupid but not blind… Let’s keep the CR for honest conversations not manipulating ones!

I don’t smoke and never smoked. However, I believe that taxes etc. is not the solution. It is just more bureaucracy and government in people’s lives. Mature people should be able to choose on their own what’s wrong and what is right. We can try to persuade them to do what is best but not force them. More taxes would create a bigger black market and smokers won’t stop. It is an addiction, period. The government can use methods such as graphic images and rehabilitation centers to rid them from their addiction voluntarily. I believe that graphical warnings would stop some people from smoking excessively as it reminds them every time of the danger. Reb Elya Desler ZT”L has a great explanation about the mind of a smoker when he takes a cigarette; it is basically that he forgets the danger at the time of the urge.

My wife says she tried all of the common American wigs but wasn’t satisfied. She recently got a wig from Israel (upon recommendation of a friend) and is elated. I thinks it’s called Miri Kapelovitch (or something like that). They claim that it is the top brand in Israel. My wife had a friend bring it in from Israel.

HaLeivi, I, actually, admire many democrats and have been influenced by many of them. I don’t consider the fact that a person can express his opinion and vote that way, a sin. However, I do consider someone that hates others’ opinions for unfound reasons, a sinner; liberals tend to do just that. Someone compiled a nice and creative list that highlights the differences between the ‘Am Hanivchar’ and the ‘Pere Adam’. Obviously, some of us didn’t like that idea. But to demand that he be shut up? That is liberalism!

Charlie, if you are ever to receive a nobel prize, would you want to be on the Jewish list or Muslim list? Your posts suggest the latter…

Finally. The time has come for us to discuss this form of Gezel on YWN. This phenomenon has been going on ever since and to my dismay has been largely ignored. I am deeply hurt about a story I had with one making claims about an “illegal driveway.”

It was about two years ago when I wanted to unload something from my car into my garage when I saw a car parked in front of my driveway. The heavy piece of furniture was to be stored in the garage at the very end of my driveway. I had planned to back my car into the driveway and easily hoist it from my car into the garage. Obviously, the luxury my driveway presented to the fellow with no ethics, got me to change my plans. I had to park at a pump down the block (as, it was the closest I could find) and carry the heavy piece down to my house and down the entire driveway. As me and my sons completed the task, that fellow (visitor) came out of a neighboring house with a luxury he afforded himself by ‘stealing’ my driveway. When one of my sons mentioned to him that he had parked in front of a private driveway, he flared up and threatened my son that he will call 311 and complain about the driveway, which he claimed was illegal. After my teenager came to repeat his ‘threat’, I went out to the fellow and told him that we can settle for a deal. You call 311 and I call 911. My home was built more than a century ago on a block that has a driveway near almost every home, I wasn’t concerned of any Mesira. What bothered me was the way people can justify their evil acts (yes, it is one) by maintaining presumptions. Claiming an “illegal driveway” is offending to one that maintains the law, only if you know for a fact that the curb was made without a permit can you charge that charge.

The OP mentioned Misaskim. Let’s put the Gezel of parking in front of a private garage aside. I’m appalled at those people who freely park in front of a garage that explicitly state that it has Life-saving equipment stored therein. Can you imagine if something would happen to your loved one but his life would be lost because someone is blocking Misaskim’s driveway? Would any of those people running into the Cafe to have a coffee or work/daven nearby decide to park a block down, in front of Hatzolah, at their convenience? Every time I pass that garage, I cringe.

Ludwigvanquixote, I thought you were trying to defend the liberals, dancing around in circles? Did the Rosh, Rashba, Ritva, Rambam and Shita also dance in circles?

    Talking about arrogant?!

I will not reply to this thread any longer as it is included in DA MA LeHashiv… This intruder is an outright Apikoras beating around the bush and lecturing us about the core beliefs of Yiddishkeit. Get a life, sir!

I am that orthodox Jew (and now I am assured from your previous post that you aren’t) and I want answers. Answers to my original post (that includes a quote from the same very Rambam you mentioned) and answers to my response. And what about my dreams (actually, nightmares) about the Democrats painting Eric Cantor as Hitler? And stop with those quotes about orphans and widows as well as stumble blocks. The Torah has more initiatives than just for them, we have charity. But, charity is by choice. Furthermore, Chazal initiated a 10% equal tax, similar to the tax the Torah demanded to give the Leviim, to support the needy. This is a fair tax to all. Sounds like the plan some ‘radical’ Tea Partiers have in mind.

Spinning the Torah into your radical agenda: do you have any answers to those that didn’t spin? The Rishonim (Rosh, Rashba, Rambam, Ritva and Shita) mentioned here: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/jews-ought-to-vote-republican-the-torah-supports-conservatism ???

Bribery: Do you know those that lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Did you ever bump into Charlie Rangel?

Equal: Yes! All people should have equal rights! No Reparations! No Progressive Taxing!

And… Did you ever hear of the term ‘Am Hanivchar’?

Race Card: Who demonized the GOP women running in this election. Who played the Sex Card against them?

Evil Eye: Yes. Those that have an evil eye to those that are more successful (aka Democrats).

All People To Heaven: Did you learn the Mishne (in Sanhedrin) that precedes the saying of Pirkei Avos: Kol Yisroel Yesh Lahem Chelek…

…freedom of choice is granted: Couldn’t spin this one, huh???

…account-book lies open, the hand writes, and all who wish to borrow may come and borrow: Why didn’t you spin this into the Frank-Dodd-Clinton Law that led to the Housing Crises?

…scorn any man, and do not discount any thing. For there is no man who has not his hour, and no thing that has not its place: Ma Inyan Shmitta Etzel Har Sinai???

He also saw a skull floating upon the water. Said he to it: Because you drowned others, you were drowned; and those who drowned you, will themselves be drowned. Doesn’t this remind you of the 2000’s when the Dems worked against Bush on every measure, from ‘stealing the votes from Gore’ to the Iraq War on to the Bush’s car into the ditch? Now is payback time!

If you eat of toil of your hands, fortunate are you, and good is to you: Did you read this before to copied & pasted? How does this fit with Socialism?

GOP attempts to gut public education: I would feel good. This would be the choice you mentioned before but omitted your spin…

This does not just mean bringing moshiach… I would just name you an Apikores! Pollution? How about… V’Haaretz Nasan Livnei Adam… it is for our dispense. Hashem can take care of the rest.

Pray for the integrity of the government; for were it not for the fear of its authority, a man would swallow his neighbor alive: Does that mean Social Medicine, Government Motors etc.? How does Free Enterprise and Capitalism make a man swallow his neighbor? Well, in communist Russia they did just that. We might need the Government for Police dept., Law and Order and Military, all which the Democrats defund and GOP pushes…

Deregulation means taking away the government that caused the cheats of all those things you mentioned. Additionally, half of the sponsors to these bills (e.g. Sarbanes-“Oxley” Act).

righteous one is benevolent and gives: If one is forced to give charity how do we get to choose being an evil heart? If charity is by choice (as the Torah suggests) you can choose. The Mishne says you shall choose good and be benevolent (note: not forced) and give.

Which is the right path for man to choose for himself? Whatever is harmonious for the one who does it, and harmonious for mankind: I see those that give charity while protecting others as harmonious to mankind while protecting his fortune as harmonious to himself.

divided and lukewarm in their support of Israel: It isn’t lukewarm support, it is strongly against!

It is to my mind that the Dems are tsdikkim, each and every one compared to the GOP: Hey! not one Republican signed this letter (http://middleeast.about.com/od/usmideastpolicy/qt/congressional-letter-gaza-siege.htm) 54 Dems did!

And do you include: Cynthia Ann McKinney, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, Charles Barron and many others that find/found an enclave within the Democratic Party?

Torah does not equal liberal socialism: The Torah DOES! The Torah is an higher authority that understands that socialism isn’t equal! Shame on you for such words!

Tebags: Mentioning this word tells me how extreme you are and how far you take YOUR views!

ignoring the strident calls of the Torah: Did you see the post entailing on what justice means according to OUR Torah. And our Torah needs commentaries. I stated everything before and here it is again: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/jews-ought-to-vote-republican-the-torah-supports-conservatism

As to support of homosexuality. I have yet to see on Democrat run on a “be gay that’s a great idea” platform: I haven’t seen one that isn’t. Isn’t Barney Frank enough for you?

And while you are correct in having some Tea Partyers mentioning Nazi’s or sayings, it is because they are regular people and not polished politicians that can disguise it. Yet, Eric Cantor refuted that individual, and, if you live in that district you can vote for his opponent. But they shouldn’t all get that title (Do you say that about orthodox-Jewish Joel Pollack too?).

Bottom Line: You’re a spinner that will do anything and everything to demonize the Republicans and claim the Democrats as the best. you will take money from others but never share anything. And let me tell you this: your post here was one big stumble block that you so-much felt comfortable with. If you are Jewish you are a modern day Maskil. Someone might suggest that voting for a Democrat isn”t against the Torah or claim that the earmarks and goodies overrule everything, but to spin the Torah like this is nothing but clear cut Apikorsus.

Ben Torah, with a post stating that the Torah supports communism on Yeshiva World News, do you still think this post wasn’t necessary?

And if you realized, all he did was elaborated on my words …the Torah is a big proponent of supporting the needy, having initiated multiple programs and commandments to assist the poor… Yes. We all agree that the Torah supports and encourages charity. The Gemara hails the Jewish nation as Rachmanim and Gomlei Chasadim, but that isn’t to be done by taking, actually stealing, money from others. Does the Torah support socialism and communism? Yes, It is hard to work, but that was the curse to Adam HaRishon… by sweating and toiling will you earn.

Number 3: Not to mention that most of the Tea Partiers are people that have a hard time paying their mortgages and bills and live off a day-to-day budget. If you are talking about the the needy, they are Tea Partiers. They don’t want career politicians making a living off them. If you like that way of living, speak to someone that survived Russian communism.
