why is he taking it off (in regards to tzitzis) is it because he doesnt like to be associated yiddishkeit? then yes it is

    conversely,

why is someone not doing the aveirah, is it because he won over his yetzer hara? then yyes it is a mitzvah

    very interesting

whats the difference between stopping and standing

nyc.gov says by no standing “When standing is prohibited by signs or rules, no person shall stop a vehicle, attended or unattended, except temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in expeditiously receiving or discharging passengers.”

my understanding of the difference (i could be wrong) is standing is putting the car in park, whereas stopping is just pressing the brake, and the way the cop can tell is if your brake lights are on or not

but you have to realize what might a rasha be doing at your seder

no one is saying you shouldn’t love him however you have to show your other children that his mehalach isnt correct, and probably the reason he’s there at all is to sway the other children towards his views

its interesting to note when the torah mentions the rasha it says a lashon of “yo’mroo” saying whereas by the tam it says “yishalcha” askd, in essence the rasha doesnt have a question hes making a statement

i saw a pshat, that it doesnt say beat him up rather “blunt his teeeth” take out the bite of his criticism annd tell him if he was there he wouldnt be redeemed but now that we have torah he could do teshuva (or something like that)

And of course it’s 1/4/2014. There is absolutely no sense whatsoever in the American insistence on placing the month before the day. If there is one justification that stands up to scrutiny I’d like to hear it. I mean, for years I thought there had been a terrorist attack on the 9th of November

this coming from someone that drives on the wrong side of the road

the logic is that its april 1st so therefore 4/1 makes sense

    whatever, inverse converse

there is a difference because he can’t be faulted for being fat if its hereditary and starving him won’t solve the problem

additionally fat people can die from starvation too, chain smokers wont die if they don’t have a cigarette

there are numerous reasons why an ani can be overweight (was rich or well off and became poor) or a genetic mutation so it wouldnt help

    secondly,

isnt it wonderful that we all have a rav to answer such questions for us?

that also works in the converse

in reply to: giving tzedakah to aniyim who smoke #1067150
    ??coffee addict
    Participant

That is not true. There is no halacha saying you have to do a background check when some ani asks you for a couple bucks on the street.

but if the “ani” comes with a sob story and one time changes his story it calls the “ani” into question and possibly could not be tzedakah at all (see previous post)

Dont worry if he smokes, you worry about being mikayem the mitzvah of tzedaka. Hashem will work out the rest. Of course if you have a question whether it is tzedaka altogether, that is why you have a Rav.

there is a differnce between speaking (saying a dvar torah) and asking, curious so wants to know whats going on

asking entails talking not speaking, theres a reason speakers are called that not talkers

what do you get out of arguing?

we should find as little as possible (outside of torah) to argue about
