As an addendum (As princess17 pointed out): Women were not made to support their husbands. You say you have a good mind and chose to pursue a college education while maintaining a shuir? You’re the gold standard.

(Ok all the kollel couples, bring it on lol)

in reply to: Guidance before Marriage #889239

Interesting you say this bec I strong believe that all couples should go to pre marital therapy. I usually get the “weirdo” look when I mention that.

I think people are scared of “shterring the shidduch” & don’t want to unearth any issues….we all know how that can turn out.

Syag, you would think….but it’s the average ones that fall through the cracks bec most are average..(just my humble opinion)

Hey MiddlePath, post anything good on soundcloud lately? Your other stuff is great!

Men: Why don’t you like curly hair? (& by curly I mean nice ringlets, not a frizzy mess)

“Are there shidduch dating girls out there that want a frum working/college bochur?”

Um, Yes. Me and every single one of my friends.

Bit of advice: Don’t date girls straight out’ve seminary….they all still think they are Rachel Ameinu..

    Medium Size Shadchan:

“oc, “MSS: I’m seeking a heavy wife.

How many candidates can you send my way”?

Many more than you need, unfortunately.”

I’m sorry, you don’t deserve to be a shadchan.

SaysMe: Thank you for your kind words. I do have a friend who I can confide in, the issue is that she is on the verge of getting engaged and aside from the obvious panic and fear of the ensuing loneliness; I also don’t want to bog her down with this…

Syag, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your insightful and thoughtful words! Yes, it’s partly what I guess we can call the “yetzer hara”, and it’s partly the awful dating world that is getting me down. I am tall and have a healthy curvy (Not. Fat.) figure. I strongly feel that a girl needs 1 outstanding quality to get ‘noticed’. It can be money, looks, brains, etc. It can be all too easy to start self-deprecating.

    *Feebly waving*

Hi. I know I’ve been MIA. I’ve been going through h*ll and have been laying low for a while. It’s nothing in particular. I thought once school let out for the summer things would brighten up, but I guess school was a ‘good’ distraction from life. Without that, everything became glaringly more obvious. I’ve been torturing myself with a question: How is it that a girl who has so much going for her (pretty, smart, good/balanced natured could have so little confidence in herself and her accomplishments.

As an aside, Jew or not, we live in America and should celebrate our country’s freedom and tolerance.

    God bless.

Health: “If I were you I’d look into Touro…”

I (respectfully) strongly disagree. Touro is not known for their strong academics or connections..

    Agreed, & thank you.

    Health, you’re absolutely right.

I just got so upset on another thread where someone posted that some therapists keep a client in therapy a lot longer than needed so that “they can bill the extra hours”…

    I mean….come. on.

in reply to: Settling for Less #880301

    Mammele:

“And last but not least, and I might get yelled at for this, but since you mentioned not making headway in therapy, be aware that some therapists may design this so they can profit from more hours billed”

Are you a therapist? No? Then don’t insult us all by making such an assumption. Our hours are long, the pay is terrible. Most of us are in the profession to help as many people as we can, even if it’s just one person’s life. By saying what you did you have undermined one of the most selfless careers out there.

Thanks MiddlePath and SaysMe (‘specially for remembering Wednesday night!) ! So far I’ve had some good sushi and watched some stupid TV. I really just want to take it easy this summer because I know graduate school will be tough. I do have a full time job, but after hours I plan to be more diligent in going to the gym and just plain relaxing, really just taking the ‘edge’ off (I’m kind’ve intense..)

SaysMe: I’m unsure of the situation, but perhaps you can just get away with saying “I don’t know what to say, I feel badly about the situation- if you need me I’m here, but only to the point that I don’t start to feel emotionally unhealthy because of the situation…”

(am I totally off base here….?)

in reply to: Congratulations To The Class of 2012!! #1051435

I just got home from graduation! Very exhilarating, but at the same time I feel a bit melancholy as if a huge chapter has closed. As joyful as the day was…there is an air of nostalgia that comes along with it…

in reply to: hat for shabbos #879179

OK, OK, OK…..everybody calm down and stop hollering ‘elitist’ at me.

I simply was wishing blackhatwannabe best wishes for the decision he has come to. His screen name clearly states that he has been wanted to do this for awhile and if he posted about it, it is obviously something that he is confident in, but at the same time asking our advice. I apologize if I offended anyone with my comment. All I meant to say is this is obviously a new level for him and I wish him much contentment in his growth. Is it spiritual? Yes, in a way it is. The black hat is NOT REPRESENTATIVE of inner spiritual levels. That is not something that anyone but the individual can judge. It is merely a symbolic to a new (read: different) level of doing things.

    That’s all.

in reply to: Congratulations To The Class of 2012!! #1051429

Yentingyenta: You graduated! That’s already a milestone, but 100%- much luck on the boards. I don’t know you, but you seem like you will make a fantastic nurse.

    “NOMTW, you forgot BFA :)”

Ah yes! There are many more that I forgot… NP, PA, Pharm.D, Au.D, BFA, Psy.D….etc.

    “How about Sc.D.? ^_^ “

    Do you mean Psy.D?

in reply to: hat for shabbos #879166

Wow, this is a huge step…I guess just be prepared to get some looks because that’s what people do, yenta…

Ignore it and bask in the spritual growth.

I’M DONE!! Thank you everyone for your endless support…

Although it’s just the first of the 3 degrees I hope to get, it still feels like a huge accomplishment and i’m so proud of myself. Talk about a confidence booster….

“Your father’s Reform “minhagim” have no bearing and are meaningless.”

Well that’s not a very nice thing to say. Regardless of whether or not it may be true….obviously these are the minhagim that he grew up with and at one point cherished. To completely devalue that is pointless.

    Please don’t go into kiruv.

Hey Mods!!! You awake? We have a jury verdict here!!

in reply to: ATT POETRY PEOPLE #1168316

I AM SO STRESSED OUT!! I’ve been studying non stop and preparing for my thesis defense (that is tomorrow along with my neuropsych final) I am literally counting down the seconds until Wednesday night (Dunsky!) – COFFEE ROOM CELEBRATION, ANYONE??

    Anxiety

    You come so fast

    You stay so long

    I try to run

    You have long legs

    Stress

    Pools of liquid

I imagine you to be clear

    Trailing down my veins

    Pulsing through every organ

    Tension

    The house reeks of it

    My back screams of it

    My eyes illuminated with it

    But they will leave

    They will run

    They will be trampled

    Anxiety, Stress, & Tension

My diploma offers you your fate

in reply to: My Shavuous Roundup #877891

“Not learning at night on Shavuous will not land you in hell. Heck, everyone staying up all night learning is a (relatively) recent phenomenon.”

Hey, i’m a woman so I don’t even have the mitzvah to stay up and learn, but considering that I was up studying a secular subject will probably earn me “points”..

in reply to: Two Opinions Which Is the Correct One? #877781

“MP, not only is it correct, but it is precisely when a wife eschews her husbands opinions that often a relationship turns bitter and abusive.”

Patri: So essentially what you are saying is that if a wife has an opinion and disagrees with what her husband is saying…the relationship will turn abusive….’cuz why…?

Husband will verbally or physically abuse his wife for have her own mind?!?

Please tell me I am reading into your words too much because my first instinct was to write something along the lines of what MiddlePath wrote..

    That’s great MP!

I went on the scale this morning and was not happy with the post chag pounds, but hey I’ll get back on my horse this week. The workouts help me both physically and emotionally.

Since tomorrow will probably be crazy hectic, I just want to wish everyone Chag Sameach! Shavous is a time of spiritual transformation, it is a time that hashem came down and crowned us as his chosen nation. It is my brachah to each of you that we all find inner peace within our hearts to heal, to smile and to love ourselves through the good times, the bad times and painful times so that we may serve hashem and keep his torah to our fullest potential.

    Keep strong!
