I happened to agree with him. (and I don’t think he took anything to heart)- it just shows thath the Chareidi community can be overzealouz about their views.

    popa_bar_abba,

If you marry someone who is not frum or wears pants, etc.

I think this thread was intended as a joke, but I still want to point out how close minded the Chareidi community is for equating a girl that wears pants to someone who is not ‘frum’.

By the way, you should be very careful when you speak out against people that are not wearing a hat and jacket.

There was an alter buchur in my Yesheva who was spotted Bain Hazmanim davening without his hat.

(I think the Mishna Brira says you have to wear a double covering on your head when you daven.)

When the Rosh Yeshevah found out, he was so angry at him that he started screaming, “I don’t mind if it wasn’t a borsalini, but chodsht (atleast) a baseball cap…it is an embarrassment for the yesheva, and if you belong to something, either a company, or a yesheva, you have to know that you represent it, etc.. The Rosh Yesheva was yelling at him, and the alte buchur was all red in the face, then the rosh yeshiva slapped him across the face, so hard, that his Toupee’ and yamike fell off. So the Rosh Yesheva asked him mechilla.

You should take a plane, because 1) it’s a lot safer and 2) there’s more chances that there won’t be a minyan on the boat, and 3) A lot of the boats look the same, so not necessarily are you on the same one they were on.

And also, where does it say that you have to daven with a minyan? If that was true, then if there was no minyan then that means you shouldn’t daven. But I have seen people daven by themselves (in the farm, etc.

Also, even if you wouldn’t daven, I don’t think you should deprive your family of a vacation because of your chumarot. I once heard in a shiur that you’re not supposed to be chumrot on other people, and that is also prohibited to do that.

Also, If you’re a man, and your going on vacation make sure to bring along your tephillin. I know many cases personally when someone who wears tephillin every day, forgot to bring them on vacation, by mistake- and it wasn’t even my fault, because it is not like clothing or food that is instinctual to pack along. It is very important to bring them along with you. And not to forget.

Also, very important is that make sure there is kosher food when you are there. Sometime you get there and you’re tierd and lo and behold, you end up eating whatever they serve. So be very carefull with that.

Also, when you are there, there is gorgeous scenery.

When I went to a different island, many people told me to take advantage of the scenery and use it to further your spiritual growth. You should meditate there, or else all that you see, the handiwork of g-d can be lost upon you. Which would be very unfortunate.

Also, you should say tefilat hadereck (a prayer for a safe journey)- even though nowadays it really isn’t a journey, nevertheless you should say it.

Also, are you trying to connect my story with that girl, Shopping613 who felt hurt by people’s comments? Because I wasn’t at all. It just reminded me of the story of Henry.

BTW, the story of Henry is NOT true. I even wrote so: This story is not true.

    The Frumguy-

Let’s improve our Tefillah during these Three Weeks.

Since bein adam l’chaveiro issues is the reason for the 3 weeks…Let’s be less judgemental of other yidden. We should concentrate on our own shortcomings than what others are doing.

So let’s point out the shortcomings of The Frumguy for pointing out the shortcomings of what others are doing. Since bein adam l’chaveiro issues is the reason for the 3 weeks. Right.

    just my hapence-

You have proved the OP’s point point in a most lucid fashion-

    Here’s why.

    In your story,

Bob had a family, people in his class that he could be socializing with, hobbies with which he could occupy himself with. etc.

    In my story,

Henry had just lost his wife to a debilitating illness…the pain of childlessness lurking deep in his heart.

    The point is the following.

    You just don’t know.

haifagirl- So the question is, why don’t you want to? The choice is sound like an intelligent person or sound like an ignorant person. It would seem to me the choice is obvious.

It’s time for some grammar lessons.

In your first sentence although the comma is fairly acceptable, it should be replaced by a colon. Also, in order for your statement to be more pointed, it should be changed to this:- So then the question is: why don’t you want to? Clarity is key.

    Next.

The choice is sound like an intelligent person or sound like an ignorant person.

This sentence connotes grammatical ignorance of the greatest measures, and should warrant the immediate revocation of your grammar-policing badge. It is incorrect and redundant.

Here are two correct versions of your sentence:

The choice is: sound like an intelligent person, or sound like an ignorant one.

    Or,

The choice is to sound like an intelligent person, or to sound like an ignorant one.

    Next.

It would seem to me the choice is obvious.

Your third sentence makes a different meaning of ‘choice’ than the second. You shoul have written:

It would seem to me the answer is obvious.

    Sincerely yours,

HaLeivi- Ruchnius is not the word for divine; Eloki is.

Nice try. ‘Eloki’ means godly. ‘Elokah’ means God.

kkls45- It is exactly like you said that you are a part and parcel of God. When you say “I am feeling sad, happy, etc.” the I that you are talking about is not your body, its your soul. And that’s the part of God that He gave to you.

    So I am partly god?
