January 31, 2013 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm in reply to: How Much Money Does the Israeli Government Give to Kollel Families? #927133zahavasdadParticipantJerusalem. Dont ask me which community there I have no idea
January 31, 2013 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm in reply to: How Much Money Does the Israeli Government Give to Kollel Families? #927130zahavasdadParticipantThe family members of mine who are in Kollel in Israel have jet-setted back and forth between Israel and the US more times that I have , They do it at least a year, if not more
If you can afford to fly back and forth to Israel, you dont need the money. I know I work and I cant afford to fly to Israel.
And when they come to NY, they are here for about a month and they are not working when they are here
zahavasdadParticipantWhat about a follower of Aharon and goes OTD and follows Zalman

I happen to have fairly close relative in Kollel both here in US and in Isarael.
I speak to them directly and indirectly , I do not get my kollel information from the news, I get it from family members and family news.
zahavasdadParticipantHe has a website where he posted it. He said that some friends showed him the posts about him here the other day, and he wrote it as a response. He submitted it to YWN, but also wrote he didn’t think they’d post it because he gets into some details they likely wouldn’t want to publish.
Nothing was ever submitted to YWN
He also told me they would never allow him to post a response on YWN
For the record, a request was never made
zahavasdadParticipantNobody really knows.
Kiruv organizations love to promote how many BT’s they made, but notbody mentions how many OTD’s there are in a community.
I am sure OTD people and organizations will promote and exxaggerate this number as well.
zahavasdadParticipantHe wrote it on his blog
January 31, 2013 12:28 pm at 12:28 pm in reply to: How Much Money Does the Israeli Government Give to Kollel Families? #927116zahavasdadParticipantAs the Charedi Population gets larger and larger, there will be less non-charedim to support them.
Fairly soon (20-30 years) they will be the majority of the population and in about 50 years they will be around 75% of the population.
How much can the charedim physically pay, how much taxes do you expect them to pay, You cant expect someone to pay over 50% of their income to a non-working segment of the population. They will balk at paying and for those who say to force them to pay, they will just leave greatly speeding up the demographics.
zahavasdadParticipantThere was no Kollel learning before approximatly the 1950’s or 1960’s. It did not exist in Europe
zahavasdadParticipantzahavasdad – did you hear anyone ask to replace the welfare payments with funds from the US? I didn’t.
—
Bear Said….
Jews the world over will take up the slack for those who truly want to learn. The rest will join the workforce and start a huge wave of kiruv that would completely change the face of the medine – which is why, in the end, little or nothing will happen. Lapid needs his charedi bogeyman to get in again.
Pick up the slack means (at least to me) that Tzedak will be collected or at least attempt to be collected
zahavasdadParticipant” What do charedim financially contribute to the state?”
What do chilonim spiritually contribute to the state?
You are making a false assumption that all non-charedim are relgion hating secularist, which is false.
Many Israels are either Dati Leumi, or Traditional (Sephardim who partially keep stuff, they go to shul, Eat Kosher and go to the Beach after Shabbbos lunch) and similar
zahavasdadParticipantYou cannot raise enough money in the US that will replace any lost welfare benefits, Most Charedim in the US are poor too, with large families. They cannot afford to give much.
January 30, 2013 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm in reply to: Insanity!! Netura Karta Sicko Forces His Boys Into Frum Girls School in Antwerp #928909zahavasdadParticipantyeshivas dont get complete gov funds like public skool. they get partial stuff like lunch programs etc..
That is only the US, in most of Europe and I think Quebec (NOT Ontario) the government pays yeshivas tutitions
zahavasdadParticipantThe person involved is an acquaintance of mine.
he has seen these posts and read them. He does not think the mods will let him open an account so he asked me if I would post his response.
If the mods will allow I will post as soon as I get it.
Its only fair if someone is attacked to let them defend themselves
zahavasdadParticipantAs a seller on Amazon, you are welcome to purchase from me
But my overhead is lower, I work from my basement so rent is free and I dont have any employees to pay except myself.
Also there is little interaction with customers so I dont need to pay anyone
zahavasdadParticipantPeople using Moser and Loshon Horah to cover up Reshaim
zahavasdadParticipantSomeone who says
We don’t need this kind of trash in our midst, or in our gene pool.
or
This is an attitude I have seen many times on the part of questionable gerim and BTs who later leave the fold after taking far more than they give
Should not really be commenting on Off the Dereach, Its suchs attitudes that we can “Throw out the Trash” that is causing people to go off.
Hashem Loves every Jew Equally , Even Barney Frank jews.
zahavasdadParticipantpurplicious I need a text-speak translator to read your posts
zahavasdadParticipantThis speech was NOT given after the election, it was given at Ono College in late 2011.
zahavasdadParticipantMy friends had problems, There is some Rabbi (I forgot his name) who helps american jews “prove” their jewishness.
January 28, 2013 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927662zahavasdadParticipantHow many Jews and Rabbanim voted for Cuomo?
He did alot more than Corzine did
zahavasdadParticipantIf you are an american and want to get married in Israel, you have to prove you are jewish which for most is almost impossible especially those who ancestors came to the US before World War I
January 28, 2013 6:12 pm at 6:12 pm in reply to: Israeli Chareidim moving to chutz la'Aretz? #942166zahavasdadParticipantAccording to most news reports Shas is out of the government
zahavasdadParticipantzsd: It certainly is halacha. The key issue is whether she had reshus or not, either implied or expressed. In the OPs case, it is clear she had no reshus from him. Not even implied reshus.
She had no Reshus in my example and it puts jewish businesses at risk, they will not ask, DO YOU HAVE YOUR HUSBANDS PERMISSION.
Instead of shopping on 47th St for the necklace, she can go to a store like Jareds or Macys where Beis Din has no power
or instead shopping on 13th Ave for the clothing, she can go to Victorias Secret again where Beis Din is powerless
zahavasdadParticipantanon1m0us: You completely misunderstood. Of course you can’t demand any compensation from your wife, as she has no assets, it is all yours. But you have a legal right in beis din to demand that other women your wife gave (your) money to, to return it to you, as it was your money and your wife has no reshus to spend it without your permission.
This is not he Halacha, otherwise, a woman could go into a Jewerly store, buy a necklace from a saleswoman. The husband decides the wife doesnt need a necklace and demands the store return his money. Never mind the item was marked down final sale.
The Husband tells the sales woman, give me a refund because I dont approve or I am going to Beis din.
Or even worse, A wife goes into a womens store to buy certain clothing items. The husband says No return them , Now there are sanitary issues to those items and if the store took them back they would have to throw them out
Stores would refuse to sell to women
January 28, 2013 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927655zahavasdadParticipantIt will be interesting what will be done if Christine Quinn becomes the next mayor of NYC.
What will be the postion then
zahavasdadParticipantMost of my relatives are “Programmers” and and not the computer kind either.
zahavasdadParticipantA wife cannot spend money without her husbands approval, since all the money is his. If she does, the husband can demand the money be returned to him from the person it was given to.
That’s what you should do.
Good luck with that
zahavasdadParticipantoh gosh.. so everyones just guna starve 2 death?? thats insane.. any jews there? i cud mail them foood!!
What difference does it make if there are jews are not, Someone starving is someone starving.
But you cant send food there anyway, the country is cut off
zahavasdadParticipantThere is no food there, that is known
Satellite photographs show the country as brown (meaning no green plants) likley because even the grass was eaten
zahavasdadParticipantI said ALL chareidim will stop paying any and all taxes. Working and non-working. Then they don’t have to fund our institutions and stuff.
Fair enough.
make sure you dont use any taxpayer paid items like the roads or use the buses. Dont fly as the airports also are run on taxes. Also make sure that they surrender their Israeli passports and only use a foreign passport (If they can get one)
zahavasdadParticipantThe Chareidim will stop paying Israeli income tax
They dont work as they are learning in Kollels. You need to work to pay income taxes.
VATS are automatically added to all purchases, its impossible to avoid paying it
zahavasdadParticipantFelix Mendelsohn was one of the founders of the Haskalah
zahavasdadParticipantA wise man once said, He who controls the kings treasure, controls the king.
As long as Money is accepted, there isnt much the Charedim can do, The money can be cut off. When you take somones money, there is always strings attached.
So if the draft (or national service) is refused, Aid will be cut off and a decision will need to be made either accept some sort of draft/national service or endure even more poverty than exists now even starvation
zahavasdadParticipantMost thing the compromise will be national service.
zahavasdadParticipantOpposition has bascially no power at all. Majority can pass any laws they want, but you have to realize because its a coalition not all parties have the same goal.
A simple yet example is the draft. Yesh Atid and Shas might be in the same co-alition. Yesh Atid is for the draft and Shas against.
It isnt as simple as you think, Parties in the ruling coalition have many things in common , but not everything
January 27, 2013 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm in reply to: Israeli Chareidim moving to chutz la'Aretz? #942155zahavasdadParticipantHatolah, Zaka, Yad Sarah, Bikur Cholim, Va’ad HaRabanim and more.
And yes this is a place to start, Most Israelis (Maybe there are some diehards who feel different) admire Zaka and are willing to accept Zaka volounteerism as service.
As far as weaker, Many compare Yeshiva to University students (for whatever reason) and say if students can learn in University they can learn in Yeshiva. In Universities only the best of the best remain after 4-5 years, Perhaps 5% of university students remain “Permanent students”
Let the yeshivas decide that 5-10% of the learners are the best, I am sure the Roshei Yeshivas know who are the real learners and who are the Not so good learners
zahavasdadParticipantYou need a coalition to pass any laws.
If the ruling party tries to pass a law and it fails, its called a vote of no-confidence and the government falls and new elections are required to be schedaled
January 27, 2013 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm in reply to: Israeli Chareidim moving to chutz la'Aretz? #942150zahavasdadParticipantEveryone agrees that national service would be an acceptable alternative to the army.
So why cant those who are “weaker” spend their time doing chessed for the state like working in Hospitals or cooking and feeding the poor or other acceptable national service jobs. Many of them are chessed anyway.
zahavasdadParticipantYou need a majority of 120 (61) to form a government
zahavasdadParticipantIsrael is a Parliment system based on Proportional representaion
They take the total number of votes divide by 120 and that how many seats you get, there is a cutoff point at 2%
32 parties ran for Kennesst. Most did not make the threashhold, those closest of those was Otzma B’Yisrol
Of those who got enough
Hadash 4
Unied Arab List 4
Balad 3
zahavasdadParticipantA bottle of wine. Since there are always Kasshruth issues, Wine is the safest
zahavasdadParticipantYou obviously have never been to a Hafganah in Yerushalayim. The Sefardim throw rocks like pros. And they know exactly how to start fires. Go to Kikar Shabbos and watch the show.
They are animals.
And let’s not mention the spousal abuse….. Ever see one of them beat their wives?
Talk about Moza Shem Ra.
Reminds me of an ex-girlfriends family. They were Israelis and they used to say A Frank is a Crank. I never got exactly what that meant, but I know it wasnt something nice about Moroccans.
Now I have Moroccan Neighbors and they are some of the nicest people you will mee. They are always trying to do the right thing and are very friendly.
zahavasdadParticipantA big Maaleh amongst Sefardim and I’m not Sefardi. They respect Rabbis, even if they aren’t religious.
There is a reason for this, Sefardic rabbanim tend not to be as harsh to non and less religious than Askenzic Rabbanim. You will never see Sefardim throwing stones for example
zahavasdadParticipantBibi wants Shas and not UTJ. Since he doesnt need Shas to make 61, Shas will have a choice to go with UTJ and be in the opposition or join the government.
I should have been clearer, Shas is seen as more moderate and willing to make a deal on national service(Which is seen as acceptable and the likely compromise instead of the army) which UTJ is not.
zahavasdadParticipantThe prevailing wisdom now is the following coalition
Likud
Yesh Aid
Hbayit Hayudi
Kadima
and possibly
Shas
Hatnua (Tzipi Livni)
Shas is seen as a litle more reasonable on the draft and might compromise while UTJ its a red line in the sand and not give in.
Many of SHAS voters are not Charedi, so this makes sense so the leadership might be hearing from the grass roots, very few UTJ voters are non charedi
January 25, 2013 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm in reply to: Israeli Chareidim moving to chutz la'Aretz? #942138zahavasdadParticipantSeriosuly would even the Arab countries welcome jews with large families who do not work
