I think we could learn how to balance a ball on our nose for a few fish.
apushatayidParticipantThere is no reason to look into car windows when walking in the street or when waiting at the corner to cross. There is certainly no reason to look into a car window AND down, unless one specifically wanted to.
Has anyone sees “sandrac” since alerting us to this horrible “crisis”? Am I the only one who believes this thread was started by a bored teenager who is laughing at the replies this “crisis” has generated? come on people.
apushatayidParticipantI think people should stop looking into other peoples car windows. It is kind of creepy if you think about it.
apushatayidParticipantshow-me-off? perhaps with the sprewel rims, the souped up muffler and paint job. otherwise, it is no more a show-me-off car than the new infiniti/lexus crossovers which seems to be quite popular in the neighborhoods mentioned by the OP.
apushatayidParticipantI must be overtired. This song is not from the Beatles. It is from Simon and Garfunkle.
Is one allowed to cross the 59th Street Bridge, since this song is associated with it? 🙂
apushatayidParticipantI’m surprised nobody has complained that YWN uses a line from The Beatles and has labeled this the goyishe music crisis.
apushatayidParticipantIn my shul, the rav is also referred to as “The Rav”. 🙂
apushatayidParticipantNow that I think about it, if this bachur was a baal middos and drove his car to 3 sedarim a day, did chessed with this car such as making deliveries for tomchei shabbos and was an otherwise good bachur, I wouldn’t care what type of car he drove.
apushatayidParticipantCrisis?
apushatayidParticipantI’m from Flatbush. I would have no issues with allowing my daughter to go out with a bachur who drove a Mustang or Camaro. In fact, I might be less inclined to allow her to date a bachur who drove a Lexus or Mercedes. Given that she is still in pre-school I’m not overly worried about this right now, perhaps as she got closer to shidduchim and I had to take this from theoretical to actual, I might change my mind.
apushatayidParticipantI would hope no shver would ever date a guy, no matter what car he drives. As for his daughter…..
There is an interesting story in the rereleased book “Reb Moshe” about a bachur of his who drove a Mustang (I’m almost positive it was a mustang) with tinted windows. He once gave his Rebbe a ride.and he told him it is the best car he was ever in. It had to do with the tinted windows, not the capabilities of the car.
apushatayidParticipantMembers of the press are calling for his resignation including Joshua Green a political columnist with the Boston Globe. This might get ugly, fast, especially in light of the allegations made by at least 3 women who have either come forward or been named in this sordid affair.
apushatayidParticipantIs your hangup over the use of the word that refers to a specific limb? The fact that they described something gruesome (even if it was an arm for example)? That your kids read the article?
apushatayidParticipantIts a good thing tisha bav doesnt fall out on shavuos then.
apushatayidParticipantI didn’t suggest otherwise. All I said was one who takes a lackadasical or cavalier attitude toward their diabetes is not a legitimate shidduch candidate and it has nothing to do with their diabetes.
apushatayidParticipantMod-42 makes a very important observation.
Can we infer there is no issue of maras ayin here.
apushatayidParticipantHe will have to resign if he gets pressure from the democratic leadership. If they feel he will be a drag come next election, they will push him to resign, if not, the ethics probe will be little more than a dog and pony show and they will leave him be. The republicans will probably find something else to keep them busy to worry about weiner, possibly keeping tabs on palin.
apushatayidParticipantPerhaps he could, but if the AC is on high, he may not be able to pretend very long.
apushatayidParticipantIts a matter of time before he resigns. The lack of support he is (and has been) getting from the democratic leadership of the house speaks volumes about what they think. Where is chuck schumer, who just last week said he is sure that this is a breitbart smear campaign against his protege? Schumer has never met a microphone he didnt like. Where is he now? Why doesnt he say anything?
apushatayidParticipantAllsgr8.
Even a “typical yeshiva guy” (or by girl) would (probably should) say no, if after speaking to endocronologist they find that the person does a horrible job of managing their diabetes, or worse.
apushatayidParticipantTake in a Blue Claws game.
apushatayidParticipantThe following statement is for the benefit of those who are prone to assumptions.
I’m not advocating anyone do anything except what they are advised to do by their own Rav.
apushatayidParticipantThats certainly your choice to make. I will stick with my Blackberry Curve and all its functionality.
apushatayidParticipantDY. So, have a seudas mitzva. at home.
apushatayidParticipantI did. You feel it goes to waste. Obviously it does not, if you take it home! If it goes to waste in your home, leave it on the table.
apushatayidParticipantIf the magazine is free and you find it objectionable throw it out. I don’t know what the local laws are in Lakewood, but in NYC, by law you may contact the publisher and tell them you don’t want unsolicited materials left by your home (the law does not apply to advertisements only). If the publisher passes the buck the the distribution company, call them and tell them not to leave it at your home.
apushatayidParticipantyou can download a new browser from the blackberry app store. I personally like to use opera mini with my curve. you can download opera from their website opera.com
apushatayidParticipantI once ended a date by saying, “this is awkward….” We got married 5 months later.
apushatayidParticipantIf your father is adamant that you dont wear it, dont, until you ask a shaila if kibbud av applies here.
apushatayidParticipant“Every year we put in shaimos around 25-50 bentchers…”
This is 25-50 things to many that you have taken home. Leave them on the table.
apushatayidParticipantRegarding benchers at a simcha. We have been zoche to make a number of bar mitzvah seudas, and had 50 benchers made (perhaps less, whatever the minimum order) and all were taken home except for the 5 we held back for ourselves. If people wouldnt want it, even for 3 weeks, they wouldnt take it. There is no mitzvah to take home a bencher either, if you dont want it, leave it on the table.
apushatayidParticipantPerhaps the whole “chasuna” as we know it is waste of yiddishe gelt?
All you need is a mesader kiddushin who can make sure everything is kidas ukidin and 2 valid eidim and. If people want to be come and be misameach the chassan and kallah, let them do so, after they have eaten their fill at home? Sheva brachos? Let a minyan of men eat together, and at bentching (out of a siddur, not chas vshalom a bencher) say the sheva brachos. Besides, there is no halacha that requires you to make a meal and bench and say sheva brachos, lets do away with that as well. IF there happens to be a minyan, then you can say sheva brachos. Think of all the money saved this way.
apushatayidParticipantAll phones are inherently kosher. It is up to the user to keep it that way.
apushatayidParticipantwhats punkchewaishin
apushatayidParticipantPBA. My wife has agreed to let me go out with any girl you set me up with, as long as we split the take 50/50. When do we start?
apushatayidParticipantRush.
apushatayidParticipantHanab. Whatever the publication, not a single person has responed with “me too, I also saw an article/photo/news item that was objectionable”.
Perhaps your standards are such, that you should consider stopping your subscription to all such publications.
Out of curiosity, did you voice your objections with the editors of this publication? Are you waiting for others to yes you, before you do so?
apushatayidParticipantDave Barry at his best.
apushatayidParticipantHaleivi. In light of the gemara you reference, how should someone eat an apple? the average apple is larger than a kzayis. Same is true of a hamburger a slice of pizza a danish, a bowl of cereal or a doughnut. Do you perhaps mean taking a bite larger than a kzayis as opposed to biting from something larger than a kzayis?
apushatayidParticipanta penguin playing with razor blades
apushatayidParticipantI find it very annoying. As it is you have the gabbai giving a klop, then you have the kids who like to klop (and the adults who act like kids too) before you get started with shemone esrei you already had 3-4 reminders.
apushatayidParticipantI would broach the subject of touching things on my desk generally.
apushatayidParticipantMosh3. Perhaps it is the father in me worrying a little to much. I have a teenage son, type 1. I would NEVER let him go to sleep away (or even day camp)camp without people knowing that he had type 1, understood what it meant, understood insulin therapy and understood how his pump worked and how to use it. I would even be sure there was someone who knew how to give insulin injections with a syringe in case the pump malfunctioned (which it has, several times, in the 7 years he has it) This doesnt mean that everyone in the camp must be told, but certainly, the director, division head, counselor camp doctor and/or nurse. I dont know how you and your family feel about “people knowing”, but my son has no issues with telling people. He doesnt broadcast it, but he doesnt hide his pump either (he wears it clipped to his belt like a cellphone). Do you wear some sort of medical ID (bracelet, chain, attachment to watch)? My son wont, but he does carry a card in his wallet with pertinent info.
apushatayidParticipantTry to go with a girl to someplace very busy. I used to take girl to anyplace in midtown manhattan and wing it from there. The advantage of midtown manhattan is that anywhere you turn you have something to discuss, something to see and you never know who you might see or meet (still remember the time I bumped into Michael J Fox, the comedian Freddie Roman and and a couple of NY Rangers including John Vanbiesbrouk – I had a roomate who came back from a date to the dorm with a napkin signed by mike tyson). If you still cant figure it out, you can always go into a hotel lobby, order a drink and talk about the things you saw outside.
apushatayidParticipantMeet the Rav and Rebbetzin together, and discuss.
apushatayidParticipantChanoch Linaar Al Pi Darko. For some kids, sitting with a chavrusah through recess might be very good for them, for others, it might be horrible. I have a neighbor who was from the learn through recess crowd, nobody stopped him, nobody ever spoke with him why he did it. He dropped out of yeshiva in 11th grade. Burnt out. His parents have someone who learns with him several hours each morning and he works most of the afternoon. Has a tutor who his helping study to earn GED so he can go on to college and earn a degree so that he will be able to provide for his family one day.
apushatayidParticipantCant wait for next years siyum hashas. Giants stadium. The Novominsker Rebbe on the jumbotron.
apushatayidParticipantYou can hear the musical version of this story on the album Touched by a Niggun, the song is titled, A Childs Prayer.
apushatayidParticipantI witnessed a high school bachur, recklessly riding his bike on Ave J, going way to fast, swerving around pedestrians and when he got to the corner, didnt bother to slow down. He hit a car. No he wasnt wearing a helmet. He was lucky in many ways except one. The driver whose car he hit was apparantly a neighbor who after asking if he was OK, and got a yes, promised to tell his parents how recklessly he was riding. (then again, it may be his lucky break if as a result of this his parents teach him proper bicycle safety)
apushatayidParticipantFor what it is worth, this is from a NY Times article about then President Bush hosting the Queen of England. I doubt the moderators will allow a link to the NY Times. The article appeared on May 4 2007 if you want to search for the articles in the archives on the NY Times site.
Here is a relevent snippet.
Later in the article, when commenting on a visit President Bush made to England…..
In July 2001, the Bushes had lunch with the queen at Buckingham Palace.
And the article concludes….
