If you realized that he meant to insult you,

then his attempt to be insulting was successful.

(As I understand it, the insult is the p’ulah of insulting,

not the chalos of the person’s being insulted.)

If you compare the percentage of Germans who supported Hitler, Japanese who supported the emperor, and Muslims who support terrorism, you will see that we have a very very big problem.

Actually, the percentage of terror-approving Muslims is far

lower than that of Hitler-supporting Germans (and probably

emperor-supporting Japanese). (Yes, I have watched By the Numbers: The Untold Story of Muslim Opinions and Demographics.)

Sufi Islam, for example (the more mystical version), is beshita against violence and jihad. They interpret jihad to be a metaphoric

    and spiritual battle.

Given the actions of Mohammed, it’s pretty easy to think they’re wrong.

Tzedaka is a matter of kodesh, and raffles are apparently

not considered gambling in halocho, or they wouldn’t be allowed.

The issue is with a shul hosting a Super Bowl party,

regardless of where it takes place.

It’s a nice vort, but if you take that as the definition of simcha

for this statement, it’s hard to understand decreasing simcha in Av

(which presumably uses the same definition as the Adar increase).

N.B. “Right” and “Left” refer to which side of the French parliament deputies sat during the Revolutionary period, which was BEFORE Jews were allowed to vote or hold political office.

Also, you shouldn’t use those words that way if your country

didn’t have a central government at that time. Those words

cannot be applied to the people of your country.

Regarding the Super Bowl and Jews, I liked R’ Dovid Hofstedter’s

guest column in Mishpacha magazine about two weeks ago.

The shul I daven at hosts a superbowl party.

Let’s be dan l’kaf z’chus and assume their intention is to prevent

people from watching the commercials and halftime show, or maybe

from attending parties with mixed company. After all, a shul is an

institution for matters of kodesh, and the Super Bowl is no such thing.

“Let me explain something to you. There is a concept of

daas Torah. What is daas Torah? It is a sort of ruach hakodesh

that exists today. When a person sits and learns, when he

immerses himself completely in Torah, then when he is asked a

question, he isn’t the one answering it – it’s the Torah within

him that’s answering. Today I’m old and constantly falling asleep

over the Gemara. I’m not immersed in learning all the time.

But your father [Rav Chaim Kanievsky] is constantly immersed in

the Torah. When he answers your question, it will be the Torah

answering you. It’s like ruach hakodesh.” – The Steipler,

as quoted by R’ Avraham Yeshaya Kanievsky,

as transcribed and translated by Mishpacha staff

(If I had to guess, “immersed” was originally “areingetun.”)
