☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Sometimes people buy things to look at and return if they don’t like it.
That would be legitimate use of the return policy.
Or there’s an online deal in which purchases over a specified amount are shipped free but you can return any of the items at no cost.
That would presumably be return abuse/fraud.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo you believe that it’s something which could realistically happen, but why do you believe it actually did happen? Do you believe that I’m a redhead? It’s not unrealistic, but you don’t have any reason to think it’s actually true.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow do you know it’s not fictional?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy would someone but something with the intention to return it without using it?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantStealing is dishonest.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI upgraded my windows to double hung.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSon, some stores have a no questions asked return policy. I was unaware of the law being that way, I will check into it. I agree that it’s a chillul Hashem when such behavior becomes associated with frum people, but otherwise (this is theoretical), how would anyone know your intention? This is also why I have some scepticism of that being the law; how can such intent be legislated?
Edit: Wikipedia does say it is illegal. How would this be enforced, though?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, not all hats have a tefach. Besides, the Sefardim who learn in Ashkenazi yeshivos often follow Ashkenazic halachah, e.g., eating non Bais Yosef meat. Is this even a Mechaber/Rama type of issue that Sefardim should davka follow Sefardic poskim? Also, do you know for a fact that no Sefardic poskim are mattir?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI actually wonder if the police would really respond as they did in the fictional story.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAs far as those things mentioned, lying about age for a cheaper ticket is pretty much outright theft. Buying with specific intent to return is probably not, but is something I’m very uncomfortable with, have never done, and have told others they should not have done.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo you’re saying that someone who didn’t post an objection to this on the grounds of shaker would probably also engage in actual theft?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey are what you said. They’re right there, black and white in your posts. If you feel so strongly about the middah of honesty, you should admit your error instead of compounding it.
I don’t know what you meant, though; that’s true.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAs always leading by example is a good start.
It’s more than that, it’s the ikkar.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy comment wasn’t about labeling people
Your comment assumed that anyone who commented here isn’t disturbed by the dishonesty, and that they must lead lives of shaker. I’m sorry you don’t have a problem with making false and offensive assumptions.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree it’s a bad idea but let’s be realistic.
Precisely. Not everything that’s wrong is rish’us
Syag, that is awfully judgemental of you.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJust because something could have happened doesn’t mean we should assume it did, when nobody is actually claiming that it did. It’s really beside the point, anyhow.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, I tried telling you why you’re wrong, but that didn’t work.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI have a very hard time understanding why Sefardim are allowed to wear hats on Shabbos.
???
Chukas akum?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs that a chiddush? Does it in any way back your assertion that frum men are fatter and unhealthier than the rest of the population? Or perhaps I misunderstood, and you didn’t mean to assert that?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOO generally don’t think rabbonim have any halachic authority.
Why do think that? As you well know, and have ably parodied, their “rabbis” write teshuvos…
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantplease correct me if i’m wrong
You’re wrong.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy wouldn’t a fat person need a bigger jacket as well?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBecause the level of inconvenience isn’t comparable.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat story is a Moshol and likely never happened, but that’s besides the point. The comparison is still very poor.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think the burden is on you, TM.
November 11, 2015 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm in reply to: DATI LEUMI AND CHAREDI- why is there such friction? #1112073☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe ones who are in yeshiva are in hesder, no?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBump
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHealth, I don’t understand the question. I think we should hate sinners (according to the Torah’s requirements), and not hate those we’re not supposed to. Don’t you agree?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs there any actual evidence that frum people are fatter/unhealthier than the rest of the population?
November 11, 2015 6:55 am at 6:55 am in reply to: DO WE REALLY HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE TO LIVE IN CHUTZ LA'ARETZ? #1112854☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe Brisker Rav noted: Two things are certain: Zionism is A”Z and all who live in E”Y stumble in Zionism.
So everyone who lived or lives in E.Y. stumbles in A”Z, including the Brisker Rov???
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat is a very poor comparison.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFeivel, you’re a fungi.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAnd why do you assume that I don’t make beer?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRY, why do you assume that I don’t make cholent?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s a bit extreme, no, CA?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t think that is the case. I don’t think, for example, that anyone hates the Arab who hid and protected the bochurim who got lost in an Arab village.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAnd that I use pearled hops?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you also assume that I make the beer I drink with it?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy do you assume that I make it?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI like cholent.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI didn’t say all Arabs. I’m talking about the ones who want to kill us.

As Sam says, it would just be history repeating itself.
And people complain about Open Orthodoxy???
Yes!!!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCharlie:
??”? ????? ?”?
????? ?? ???. ?? ????? ??? ?????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s one thing if he were talking about gefilte fish…
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHealth, I don’t see how that’s relevant here.
November 10, 2015 12:33 am at 12:33 am in reply to: DATI LEUMI AND CHAREDI- why is there such friction? #1112030☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow do we define continuity, though? Technically, reform and conservative still exist, although we certainly don’t have them in our tent. OO does, though, so what if the next version of reform/ conservative/OO comes along in 50 years and recognizes OO?
November 9, 2015 10:57 pm at 10:57 pm in reply to: DATI LEUMI AND CHAREDI- why is there such friction? #1112028☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY: What do you think of the paragraph I just wrote?
Did you see Yitzchak Adlerstein’s latest piece, entitled, “There Is No Continuity Without Authenticity”?
Let’s just say that I agree with the title, if not all of the article.
