OK, in the case of companies in which most employees are frum, you might be correct.
For individual buying insurance, though, or those who work for non-frum companies, the changes might be to their detriment.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA bit feisty today, are we? (good for you)
And for the record, being called an idiot by popa is nothing to be ashamed of. If I may say so myself, you’re in good company.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGoq, you’re right! 80 agrees with you that it was Mr. Mustard.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGoq, I haven’t a Clue what you’re referring to.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t think it’s a conspiracy theory, I believe they mean well and have accomplished a lot. I am just pointing out that they have in effect created a monopoly with their policies. Also, I still fail to understand the “normal” theory.
Same as I’ve done with NASI, I have never told anyone who to marry (except for my wife), I’ve just insisted that mathematically, they’re correct.
December 8, 2013 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991843☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantObamacare is actually going to make it cheaper for Frum people to get insurance
I’ve heard the opposite, that with the new regulations, the insurance companies will be able to limit the number of children included in the policy, and charge more for each additional child.
Let’s say what I heard is incorrect (it’s just something I heard and might not be true). Still, since until now a family health plan did include all children, how would Obamacare be any cheaper in this regard?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGoq, in which room?
December 8, 2013 1:49 pm at 1:49 pm in reply to: Yated article about barely making it financially #991839☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantZD, it would depend on how many kids you had in school.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, when I wrote that, I actually thought they test for about four things, but the fact that they actually test for ten things (I found a list online –
“For interested participants, a simple blood test screens potential carriers for 10 disorders:
Tay-Sachs Disease
Cystic Fibrosis
Canavan Disease
Familial Dysautonomia
Fanconi Anemia Type C
Gaucher Disease Type I
Mucolipidosis Type IV
Glycogen Storage Disorder Type I
Niemann-Pick Disease”
only slightly minimizes my point. IF (and I don’t know if I agree with the notion) being a carrier of a specific condition is a stigma, it would still be a stigma to be a carrier of an unknown dreadful condition.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAs it is, if she finds out that she’s a mismatch with Yosef, she knows he’s a carrier. The only difference is that she doesn’t know which specific condition he’s a carrier for. Do you think that this distinction is so important?
FTR, I don’t think the policy is for nefarious reasons as Dash’s cynical side does, but I definitely agree with Dash and writersoul that the effect is a monopoly. That’s not necessarily a terrible thing either, because at the end of the day, we have a relatively economical and efficient way of avoiding mismatches.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY: By fake seminary, I think he meant Michlalah…
Yes, I know; that was an attempt at humor. Also, welcome to the idiots’ club, joining me, and Dash’s cynical side.
Popa, what’s Facebook? Anyhow, maybe one of the HS or sem girls here (or yeshiva bochurim, ch”v) can verify my assumption that Dor Yesharim doesn’t let you independently test. Do they make you sign something?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHowever, people who are considering getting tested by someone besides dor yeshorim are not doing so with the intention to ever be retested by dor yeshorim
They’re certainly hoping not to have to, but what do they expect to happen if they test positive, other than Dor Yesharim?
and are highly unlikely to know of this policy
I assume that they tell everyone.
It is simply ridiculous to assume they are trying to target people whose intention was to be tested twice!!
I guess that depends what the purpose if the policy is.
Moreover, in your scenario the solution would have to be for the other person to be re-tested by an outside tester–which is a net loss of business to dor yeshorim
Not if it forces everyone to test through Dor Yesharim to begin with.
And this probably happens frequently, since people in the college world are generally tested by other organizations.
That us an interesting point. What happens when a Dor Yesharim tested individual wants to try a shidduch with an independent testee? IDK
I changed my mind, you can go to a fake seminary after all.
I already do.
December 6, 2013 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm in reply to: Giving Tzedkah to a Charity that uses Money for Expenses #992077☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree with Syag. The question could be construed as an attack on tzedakah organizations, or as a legitimate question about prioritizing one’s donations.
December 6, 2013 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: In this month do you take your kinderlach shopping… #991537☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid you ever hear the Marvelous Midos Machine song “Never Take Kids to a Store”?
December 6, 2013 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm in reply to: Giving Tzedkah to a Charity that uses Money for Expenses #992071☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCertainly there is value is running an event that makes no money , but gets your name out as the bigger money might give..
Asking people to just write checks doesnt work otherwise Ooorah would not see a need to run a Million Dollar Raffle
Then I think you’ve answered your own question.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantwe can never ever rely on any goy to protect us.
Or Jew.
V’ein lonu l’hishaein ela al avinu shebashamayim.
December 6, 2013 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm in reply to: Giving Tzedkah to a Charity that uses Money for Expenses #992065☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThen, of course, there’s the famous story with R’ Chaim Volozhiner (IIRC) collecting money for the yeshiva.
One year, he needed to hire a wagon and driver. One donor, who had given generously in the past, asked R’ Chaim how he knew that his money would support Torah and not pay for the horse’s food.
R’ Chaim answered him that just as for the building if the Mishkan, the money went towards items with more kedusha according to the intentions of the giver, so too with supporting the yeshiva. If one’s intentions are pure, his donation will support Torah. If his intentions are tainted, the money will go toward feeding the horse.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlso, if you figured out someone else’s status, that means you have the same status, so why would you tell anyone?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, I disagree with you. This policy prevents people from using independent labs to begin with. If someone is positive for any of the illnesses, they will want to match through Dor Yesharim, and not have to tell any prospective shidduch that they’re positive and will need the other party to go to a lab.
This itself might be a legitimate reason for the policy, but in theory, the policy could have financial advantage.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid you ever hear the song “Little Tree” from Journeys 4?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s why popa says he sometimes lies – to throw us off. I think I know when he’s lying, but I guess I’ll never know for sure.
For example, I think he’s a man, and if he’s married, it’s to only one wife.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, pba must be a big proponent of making personal sacrifice to alleviate the shidduch crisis.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOK, pet peeve time. Someone recently started sending me emails from his Blackberry. Every email ends with “Sent from My Verizon Blackberry”. What’s up with that? Can’t he remove that? Is it just laziness? Is it gaavah that he can afford Verizon? Is it that he wants to do free advertising for Blackberry and Verizon?
Maybe I’m just jealous because I only have the MetroPcs $25 plan.
December 6, 2013 5:55 am at 5:55 am in reply to: Your Teachers Were Also Wrong About Other Stuff #991325☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWIY, I guess you’re not in chinuch. There’s a mesorah for how these things are taught, and what to teach at what age.
December 6, 2013 5:52 am at 5:52 am in reply to: Your Teachers Were Also Wrong About Other Stuff #991324☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow many things which your teachers taught you were correct?
For me, 99%, at least. Pretty good, I would say. You can knock all you want, and some things are cute, but let’s not forget to have proper hakaras
hatov to our teachers, the vast majority of whom are extremely devoted and underpaid.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m not mekabel that Popa has trouble saying deep Divrei Torah.
Could be his wife isn’t chapping the amkus.
Or, one of his deep divrei Torah is about all eight days of Chanukah having a din of Motzaei Shabbos.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantdo you have any real advice?
She’s probably going to too many shiurim, and thinks she a big lamdan now. Whenever there’s a shiur which she wants to go to, offer to take her to some fancy new restaurant that night instead.
December 5, 2013 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm in reply to: People who quote opinions from the CR in real life #991369☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNeed seminary help, that was some compliment, mentioning me in the same sentence as popa.
Veltz Meshugener, I felt the same way, until I read your post.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf it’s deep fried, it’s definitely not hamotzi.
December 5, 2013 1:45 am at 1:45 am in reply to: People who quote opinions from the CR in real life #991355☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou should tell him to apply for a job giving shiurim in seminaries.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy, Sam?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopcorn
Put 1cp. popcorn in popcorn maker
Turn on popcorn maker
Buy flowers for when wife sees mess
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey check with Dor Yesharim to make sure she’s compatible.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant1. Ask in a hardware store
2. Ask popa
3) Ask a poseik
4) Ask popa
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMazel Tov!
That was very nice of you to keep us updated and share the good news.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, did they have this policy when they only tested for Tay-Sach’s? If so, that reason doesn’t make sense.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt should be watermarked on the photo.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat’s a cd player?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey really do have a door.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere was a video put out by members of the family, and in it, there was a clip of him singing a particular gemara. The video hasn’t been sold yet, but is available for private viewing. It was absolutely mesmerizing. There were ads, but I don’t remember the phone #.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow would I know? I never went to Sem.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa’s just jealous because his seminaries didn’t work out.
December 2, 2013 11:43 pm at 11:43 pm in reply to: Morons who put stuff besides jelly in sufguniyois #1004552☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, mine was jelly. What do you think I am, a r??e??t??a??r??d?? moron?
December 2, 2013 10:39 pm at 10:39 pm in reply to: Morons who put stuff besides jelly in sufguniyois #1004549☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, I want to thank you for your advice on how to eat a filled donut. It made less of a mess than usual.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTzaddiq, I don’t think so. That wouldn’t be sheosiso “l’avoseinu”.
I think HaLeiVi’s correct.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLF, I see I have more than you, but fewer than WIY.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLF, can you guess how many you had?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf it refers to kochi v’otzdem yodi, then it’s clearly not correct.
