☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
You can make your own definition of apikorsus, I suppose, but the halachah would call people who think you can only defend am Yisrael if you’re in the army apikorsim.
April 24, 2017 12:06 am at 12:06 am in reply to: Government Programs for Low Income Families #1260646☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe point was that if you consider anyone who has to take money from the government to be a shnorrer, then you should consider everyone to be a shnorrer including the government (Israeli) itself.
Do you really not see the difference between taking money for performing a service and taking money someone gave you simply because you couldn’t meet your expenses?
One is nahama d’kisufa, one isn’t.
If you want to minimize the kisufa because the person is contributing to society, fine, but don’t equate a subsidy with a salary.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo it doesn’t. My point is exactly what 25 wrote. Calling them shnorrers and putting it in quotes is meaningless. They’re getting paid to do a job.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantVlasic makes delicious “shnorrers”. I put “shnorrers” in quotes because they’re not really shnorrers, they’re pickles.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCompare the likelihood of each.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf they wouldn’t write “edited”, you (or someone else) would complain that they edited your post without making a note of it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo. I don’t want to have to fight with the apikorsim there who think they have a right to put my kids in the army.
April 23, 2017 12:03 pm at 12:03 pm in reply to: Government Programs for Low Income Families #1259148☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMeno is correct. It’s called supply and demand.
If there were an abundance of actors who could generate the type of revenue that the top stars do, their income would be lower, but there are few, so they take huge amounts of money for their work.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant“I have a dream that my two little monitors will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their screen, but by the content of their character.”

There’s no way to target correcting a mistake in an online shiur exclusively to those who listened to it, so as long as it’s done respectfully, I don’t see why a mistake can’t be pointed out, l’hagdil Torah.
April 19, 2017 9:08 am at 9:08 am in reply to: What if I don't want to buy back the chometz from the goy? #1255064☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe contracts are structured so that none of these shenanigans make sense for either side.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe משנה ברורה in רצ”ז explains that one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFor obvious reasons, I will not answer the question of whether the Chofetz Chaim was frummer than the Vilna Gaon.
That’s okay, you don’t have to answer it twice. You already answered in the affirmative in the OP.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs that a yes or a no?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo the Chofetz Chaim was frummer than the Vilna Gaon?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe chametz is sealed in the bag, so I would not be handling the actual chametz.
That’s called handling the chometz.
If you accidentally knocked over some chametz onto the floor in a store, would you leave it lying on the floor and make a Chillul Hashem?
If you accidentally turned a light off on Shabbos in a public place, can you turn it back on in order not to make a c”H?
If you accidentally knocked over a bottle of scotch in a store on Pesach, and the contents spilled, are you allowed to pay for it?
You wouldn’t be buying the Scotch, you’d be paying for the damage.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf it’s assur, it’s assur.
There are exceptions; perhaps this is another?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantמגן אברהם תמ”ו
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think it’s time for nitpicker to bump.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs it assur for one to rip his own hair out on chol hamoed?
Yes, especially since it could have been ripped out a long time ago.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOk, so if you daven Mincha at the zoo, don’t forget Morid Hatal or just not saying Mashiv Haruach, don’t forget V’sein B’rachah, don’t forget Ya’aleh V’yavo, and one more thing (I forgot what – nitpicker, can you please remind me?).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou stay on one side of the court near one basket, while they are on the other side of the court near the other basket, with a good mechitzah at half court separating.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI already bumped it in December.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, that wasn’t the question. I’m not arguing on the din of די מחסורו, but as a practical matter, as discussed six years ago, it’s not as easy to collect tzedakah for what is considered a luxury for most, and it is more basic mentchlichkeit for someone to try to live without them than it is for someone to live without what is generally considered basic needs.
April 9, 2017 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm in reply to: Yidden who like homemade Pesach cakes better than yearround cakes #1253444☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCeliacs
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy position hasn’t changed since we debated this six years ago. It would be praiseworthy for him to make Pesach at home.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJoseph, he addressed that in his discussion of די מחסורו
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, it was quite obvious.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLU, the article said high end. That means there are less expensive ones, no matter how you do the math.
ZD, they’re not all priced the same. I just randomly looked one up online, and it was $4200-$7000 per person, depending on the room.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSaying that some people are overdoing it is a far cry from being thrilled that people were stranded and programs had to close (which means the management probably lost significant amounts of money).
LU, OCD doesn’t require a high end program.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo wry humor is the same as a corny joke?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDon;’t forget, it is a minhag not even a d’rabbanan. In fact, some Rishonim thought that it is a foolish minhag and opposed it.
See above. Once the minhag was accepted, it has the force of halachah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantשערי תשובה

לפי שחכמי הדור מגדולי אשכנז חרדו לקראתם ועמדו בפרץ וקיימו דברי חכמים והחליטו האיסור
במדינות אלו☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBump
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat is the differnce between corn and Potatoes?
Remind me never to send you shopping for me.
Also, potato bread has wheat flour in it and is chometz gamur. The corn bread involved in the issur of kitniyos was not chometz.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe question is not at the institutional level but at the personal level, IE, in the barracks where for example they share a toaster oven. may one soldier insist his comrades do the same.
No, that would be a case of insisting that they accommodate his chumrot.
An example of forcing his chumros on them would be if he didn’t let them have their own toaster oven in addition to his.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised if the “chumrot” the army isn’t makpid on are basic halachos.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI click on your name and see it.
April 4, 2017 1:22 am at 1:22 am in reply to: Forgetting your learning if you leave a Sefer open, unattended #1249566☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLesschumras, what does this have to do with stepping over a baby? Are all inyanim Al pi Kabbalah dismissed because there are some wrong superstitions?
What yekke2 gave you was an impeccable source (not Rav Schach, THE Schach) quoting earlier sources. Challenging a Shach because you don’t understand supernatural cause and effect is not a good thing to be doing.
April 3, 2017 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm in reply to: Forgetting your learning if you leave a Sefer open, unattended #1249521☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLesschumras, let me get this straight – the Shach is not proof enough for you??
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBut it’s still the same reason, and not to attract anyone, as you insinuate.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere are also situations where the halachah is clear that it’s assur to hit your child, even for discipline. Probably, most situations today fall under that category.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantwhy are you wearing it outside the home to look good for street people, which you shouldn’t be going out of your way to do, rather than wearing inside your home to look good for your husband, as you’re supposed to
The same reason you might occasionally walk around in you bathrobe at home but not in the street.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey’re also not a state and community?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPizza, Diet Coke.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFree Pesach products? Seems of little use if someone does it at the end of Pesach.
They should make the prize a free sheitel.
