DovidBTParticipant
You mean well, but could get in trouble.
I trust Hashem to prevent me from getting in trouble for writing a simple B”H on another Jew’s NOV. But I’ll keep your advice in mind in the future. Now that you’ve “outed” yourself as a Census expert, I may bother you with some questions. 🙂
DovidBTParticipantIs it a volunteer job or paid?
It’s paid.DovidBTParticipantWhat kind of note was that? As far as I know, the only papers that we normally leave at an address are an Information Sheet and a Notice of Visit (NOV). Neither one has an address on it. There are a couple of other papers used for aiding non-English speakers.
Every day we get a computer-generated list of addresses to visit. I don’t know what their source is. A big part of the work is finding the addresses.
Two of the addresses I was assigned yesterday were non-existent.
By the end of the day I couldn’t even remember my own address. 🙂
DovidBTParticipantwould you take that vaccine?
Of course not. It’s obviously got stuff in it to turn you into a commie.
DovidBTParticipantActually we are often obligated to give up our lives rather than commit a transgression.
Actually that situation is very rare. When was the last time someone forced you to practice idolatry, commit murder, or be sexually immoral?
DovidBTParticipantThe problem with used furniture is that it may be filthy, with earwax and nose stuff all over it.
DovidBTParticipantThe Talmud says you do. Our judicial system does not meet even the minimal standards demanded by the Torah for Noachide courts.
We’re obligated to observe the “law of the land”, regardless of whether it’s consistent with Talmudic law.
The police executed him without trial, without due process.
He died due to his failure to cooperate with the police, who were required by the situation to use force. Whether they did anything unlawful will be determined by the on-going legal process.
DovidBTParticipantSome libraries allow checking out a digital edition of a book.
DovidBTParticipantjojo’s post was made in 2008.
DovidBTParticipantThe thing about testing, even if it’s an accurate result, is that it only shows your status at the time of the test. It doesn’t mean that you won’t contract the disease the next day, or the day after, etc. So I’m skeptical about the value of getting tested.
DovidBTParticipant@CTLAWYER
Do you think the blame for systemic racism lies with privileged white people, such as yourself?DovidBTParticipantBy a peaceful protest, even if it is after curfew, teargas is not needed.
That’s not a peaceful protest. It’s a mob of criminals.
DovidBTParticipantThe problem was that some cities deployed teargas at peaceful protests after curfew.
If the participants are breaking the law by ignoring the curfew, it’s not a peaceful protest, it’s a group of criminals. They should get a warning to leave, but if they fail to do so, the police are within their rights to use forceful measures to enforce the law.
DovidBTParticipantBut the topic should be why is there so much crime in the US?
I suggest posting that as a new topic.
DovidBTParticipantMaybe unarmed cops could wear a different colored shirt, so prospective shooters would know they are dealing with unarmed officers.
Do you seriously think that “prospective shooters” would avoid harming cops because they’re unarmed?
DovidBTParticipantthe body cam has to be on always when on duty and should be made available to the public
The question is WHEN should it made publicly available. The camera images may only provide a partial, misleading account of what happened. Releasing images early may interfere with the investigation.]
Also, the images might contain private information that’s not appropriate for public dissemination. But that can be handled by editing out that information.
DovidBTParticipant… he should treat him the way he would treat his own kid if some childish prank ended up with someone calling 911.
What if the person is adult-sized and starts fighting with the police officer?
DovidBTParticipantYes.
July 13, 2020 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm in reply to: Do our eyes tell us what happened to GEORGE FLOYD #1881959DovidBTParticipantOMG imagine how far the liberalised USA will go with anger and rage if the officers are found innocent of murder!
Our justice system is not based on YouTube videos or fear of thugs rioting. What happened to “innocent until proven guilty” in a court?
The way to stop the rioting is effective law enforcement, not giving in to the rioters’ demands.
DovidBTParticipantThis isn’t about the statues. It’s the thought police demanding erasure of anything that offends them.
Statues, school names, park names, sports team names, street names, books, movies, language, et. al.
People who say anything “offensive”, even if it was decades ago, are fired from their jobs and threatened with violence by the mob. And if you disagree with this, that in itself is “offensive”.
Removing statues is just the first step of a never-ending process.
July 3, 2020 12:14 pm at 12:14 pm in reply to: Anybody else suffering After Recovering From the Covid-19 #1879215DovidBTParticipantToo much exercise may actually not be ok at this point since your body is really still sick.
“Too much” exercise can be harmful regardless of your fitness level. If you’re recovering from a serious illness or injury, naturally you should check with a medical professional regarding exercise.
My personal experience has been that a reasonable amount of exercise, along with proper diet and adequate rest, is the best way of preventing and alleviating the bulk of physical aliments. And the older you are, the more benefit you get from exercise.
Prayer and Torah study helps too 🙂

July 1, 2020 12:29 pm at 12:29 pm in reply to: Frum non profit organizations disclosing financials. #1878478DovidBTParticipantDisclosure keeps everything honest
It’s not only about honesty. Disclosure also tells you whether the management is competent.
June 30, 2020 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm in reply to: Frum non profit organizations disclosing financials. #1878264DovidBTParticipantJoseph: The OP didn’t say anything about identifying individual charity recipients.
DovidBTParticipantWhat is more of a factor for inner city (black) kids. The disappearing middle class or, the biased judicial system?
Maybe the lack of proper values: cohesive families, education and hard work.
June 28, 2020 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm in reply to: If you’re curious about the board game “Bavli,” here you go #1877474DovidBTParticipantThis is apparently the game creator’s web site: bavli DOT org
DovidBTParticipantGemara can be learned effectively without Rashi.
Did Rashi quote himself in discussions with contemporaries?
Reuven: “Rashi, what’s the meaning of this passage in Shabbos 111b?”
Rashi: “Well, Rashi says it means ….”DovidBTParticipantTake a look at your electronic devices, such as computer accessories, and see how many of them are labeled “Made in China”. If our electric grid were destroyed, the market for those devices would be gone.
DovidBTParticipantCTL: Do you remember this?
Hey, hey, L-B-J,
How many boys did you kill to-day?DovidBTParticipantreligious exemptions was cover in the Mastercake decision last year, …
My understanding is that the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission decision had a very narrow scope, and basically had no impact on general freedom of religious practice.
DovidBTParticipantthat’s the problem if I’m in charge of a religious school …
The Supreme Court decision addresses that, and seems to imply that religious organizations are exempt. Of course, the existence of the decision also increases the likelihood that a religious organization will be prosecuted or sued, and be forced to spend the time and money defending itself.
DovidBTParticipantMaybe their training should be more like boot camp for the military
Military boot camp, at least in the case of the Army, is mostly focused on endurance for long walks and runs, and accurately shooting people with rifles.
For police work, I would think that intensive martial arts training would be more useful.
DovidBTParticipantWhy would being intoxicated matter?
DovidBTParticipantIn the 60’s, the need for police and the justice system was taken for granted by almost everyone. There were no responsible government leaders supporting violent riots. Violent criminals stopped by the police were not treated as heroes.
DovidBTParticipantThis isn’t new. Anything that doesn’t align with their agenda (whatever that is) is a target.
DovidBTParticipantCalling to “defund the police” is a scare tactic. No one really believes that it makes sense. It’s just a rallying cry by leftists to further their agenda.
DovidBTParticipantNOT ALL BLACKS LIVE IN INNER CITIES
But the violent riots are started by the blacks who live in the inner cities.
Why do the other blacks follow their lead?
DovidBTParticipantIf Democrats are in control of the big cities, probably.
June 3, 2020 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm in reply to: If N.Y. doesn’t allow summer camps to open, what’s your plan? #1867512DovidBTParticipantStart a movement called Summer Camps Matter. Implement it with street protests to keep it in the news every day. That’s the new American Way.
DovidBTParticipantIf you’re trying to control a cat who wants to bite and scratch you, an easy trick is to wrap it in a large towel or blanket.
I wonder why the police don’t carry big nets they could throw over a person and then secure. That seems as if would be safer for the police, and the person being detained as well.
June 2, 2020 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm in reply to: Dear Mr. President, Send in the National Guard! #1867112DovidBTParticipantSome of us are fortunate enough to live in a place with a Republican governor and mayor who know how to stop mob violence.
DovidBTParticipantM61 Vulcan
DovidBTParticipantIf you believe rioters should be shot, do you also believe that a counterfeiter should be strangled to death, while in handcuffs screaming “Help! I can’t breath!”. Please think before you post insensitively.
No one deserves to die. From what I’ve read, he was a felon who had served prison time for armed robbery. He was resisting arrest for trying to pass counterfeit money.
If he had cooperated with the police, they wouldn’t have needed to use force, and he wouldn’t have been harmed.
DovidBTParticipantPeople can work online.
Less than 30% of people can work online.
DovidBTParticipantWithout flour there is no Torah.

What’s the normal cost?
DovidBTParticipant… whether noon and midnight (and hence the following day of the week) technically begin at …
They’re instants in time. They don’t “begin”, they occur.
DovidBTParticipantWhat about starting a sentence with “So …”? That’s a common trend these days.
