What about starting a sentence with “So …”? That’s a common trend these days.

Aside from the English grammatical atrocity, can you provide a Torah or Talmud source that defines the word “girl”?

Would anybody like to contribute to – or simply read – a topic that posts a daily bit of information about proper English. For many posters, English is a second – or third, fourth or fifth – language, and it shows in the English mistakes they make in their posts. English is my first language. I learned more Yiddish from the Borscht Belt comedians on TV than from my parents and grandparents, and I can read a siddur and daven in Hebrew, but when I visit Israel, I cannot read a menu or the labels on the products in supermarkets.

The first sentence should end with a question mark rather than a period.
The fourth sentence is a run-on sentence and overuses commas.

In the meantime, these two [others came by the marketplace]. [Elijah] came [again and] said to [R’ Beroka]: These, too, are destined for the World to Come. [R’ Beroka] went up to them, [and] said to them: ‘What do you do?’ They said to him: ‘We are comedians, [and] we go to cheer up those who are depressed. Additionally, whenever we see two people involved in a quarrel, we strive hard to make peace between them.’

The only way to stop this is to stay at home. Stay at home. Don’t go anywhere. Don’t touch anyone.

    Good advice.

Permanently seal your doors and windows. Never go outside again. Even after Coronavirus is gone, the world will be full of other hazards.

What about giving a Shiur or Dvar Torah in Loshon Kodesh? The reason that was not done is because Loshon HaKodesh is very hard to use in a speaking manner – its much more suited to writing. Would you start a sentence with “hinei”?

It would be an interesting experiment to spend a month speaking nothing but Loshon Kodesh, possibly limiting it to actual verses from the Tanach.

My understanding is that if you drink water for pleasure, you say shehakol. But if you drink water simply to keep yourself hydrated, you don’t say a blessing.

Does the same logic apply to coffee? If you drink it for pleasure, you say shehakol, but if you drink it simply to stay awake, you don’t say a blessing?

About 50 years ago learned both COBOL and Fortran using mainframe computers with punchcards

Punch cards were great. A stack of cards was a tangible result of your work. And old cards made good book marks for the computer manuals.

Why does it have to be banned, why can’t there be a trial stage to see how people will be affected (maybe big supermarkets should have the ban but the little Chinese food restaurants can still use bags) and see what people say

That would be really complicated to enforce. A ban that applies to all stores is simple.

I’m reading Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography. It’s actually fascinating. He talks a lot about his belief in G-d and support of religion, from the ethical perspective. He also discusses his systematic approach to improving his middos, which he calls “virtues”.
