“You are truly ignorant of the realities of the legal system…”

CT Lawyer: I’m certain R Yosef is fully aware but is just getting off on eliciting his usual trollish responses. As noted elsewhere, Kavanaugh’s concurrence today was explicit on the right to travel out of state for abortions in states such as New York and yours where it is entirely legal. In fact, a law just enacted protects medical providers and patients seeking abortion care who come to Connecticut from other states along with expanding access to abortion in Connecticut.

UJM: Your application for EITHER model would likely trigger immediate legal filings by CR posters under Article 63-A of the NYS Civil Practice Laws and Rules (“Red Flag Law”) setting forth the facts and circumstances justifying the issuance of a temporary extreme risk protection order by a State Court when there is “probable cause to believe the respondent is likely to engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to himself, herself, or others, as defined in paragraph one or two of subdivision (a) of section 9.39 of the mental hygiene law.” Yesterday’s SCOTUS decision had no effect on such laws.

UJM: Thanks for the clarification…..assuming you lived downhill from the cheider, you would have to walk “uphill” in the morning but in theory, that would result in a “downhill” walk to return home, unless your parents moved during the day to a new home further uphill from the cheider, which would reflect TWO uphill barefoot treks in the snow, but only for ONE day. Perhaps you are speaking metaphorically in terms of your raising up your neshama through the time you spent learning your alfeph beis, harassing the girls at the adjacent beis yakov during recess or building LEGO models of the beis hamikdash such that every trek in the snow was an uphill spiritual journey.

“No other president has garnered so much attention while outside of office..”

True, but consider WHY. Historically, FORMER Presidents don’t continue litigating election outcomes once they leave office. Go back and look at every modern era President and you will see a uniform pattern of allowing their successor to govern w/o daily commentary via call-ins to major TV morning shows, much less a constant stream of news releases on what looks like WH stationary engraved with “OFFICE OF THE 45th PRESIDENT”, news conferences from behind a podium with a presidential seal and political rallies as if in the final weeks of a presidential campaign. The Donald can’t stand being out of the public spotlight an HE is inserting himself into our daily news cycles.
Would there still be a degree of TDS if he suddenly shut up, shut down the MAGA rallies and took up painting like GWB or teaching Sunday School like JC. Of course, but nowhere near the
circus show he himself creates and continues to sow turmoil wherever he goes.

Even if you disagree with R’ Tendler on many issues, perhaps still show some respect by referencing him as “Rav” (an omission that I’ve been guilty of on occasion as well). On many issues where his views are not widely accepted, I’d still give his analysis greater weight given his vastly greater intellectual understanding of the underlying science relative to most of his peers.

Improved efficiency through robotics and AI will partially offset the declining work force issue. For EY, its a tension between having higher population growth but finding socially and politically acceptable programs for assuring younger men and women are at least working part-time and contributing to GDP growth rather than being net recipients of social welfare and transfer payments funded by a declining workforce.

“I expect the naviim who post here will have a definitive answer”.

We do. Economists define a “recession” as a decline in industrial activity using the standard measure of the value added created through the production of goods and services (GDP) in two successive quarters. Currently, such a decline in GDP appears likely for Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 based on multiple forecasts but reverting back to positive growth by Q2 or Q3 2023. Thus, we are likely to have a recession, but relatively short-lived within an overall secular growth trend.

“Brandon strifled the domestic gas production hence less supplies…”
As someone observed, the level of ignorance here is breathtaking…
The mods prefer we don’t post URL links but if you go to the DOE website (EIA.gov) and luse the dropdown menu to link to “U.S. Natural Gas production”) you will note that the monthly natural gas production when Trump left in January 2021 was 2.876 MCF…..the most recent monthly production for April 2022 was 3.187 MCF.
Conventional wisdom suggests that 3.187 is a larger volume than 2.876. The figures for May and June will be even larger since producers ramped up marginal production capacity when Russia invaded Ukraine in March 2022. As world prices spiked over the past 90 days, foreign demand made it substantially more profitable to convert U.S. production to LNG exports to Europe where it was priced at $30/MMBTU (including conversion and transport costs) compared to domestic commodity prices (Henry Hub of about $9/MMBTU).

Oil companies are neither public utilities subject to cost of service regulation nor charitable organizations focused on public welfare. They function in a global market where prices for crude are set largely by OPEC production decisions and distillate products by refining capacity and short-term demand. We don’t tell sellers of $300 esrogim from Italy to “be patriotic” and sell their products for $50 so the poishete yid can be mehader mitzvah like his affluent brehthren. Their current prices aren’t even the highest (in real terms) relative to prior supply disruptions. Biden’s stupid comment to “be patriotic” and cut prices is indicative of the political and market economics naivete on BOTH sides of the debate.

With the exception of a relatively smalll (35K b/d) refinery west-Texas refinery built in 2019, there hasn’t been a major new refinery built in the U.S. in nearly 50 years spanning both Democratic and Republican administrations. Existing refineries are running near 100 percent capacity so even if we had additional crude imports, they couldn’t be processed in the near term. The combination of a post-covid surge in demand and the loss of Russian distilled product are the primary cause of recent price spikes and it has little to do with Biden. In the longer term, however, when demand levels return to normal and Russian product is back on the market, Biden’s policies could keep prices at above market levels since his “excess profit” rhetoric and constraints on new pipelines will limit incentives for expanding U.S. refining capacity. Refiners don’t want to invest in new capacity unless they are assured of reasonable returns and those assurances are sorely lacking.

a m Condensate splitters are distillation units that process condensate, which is lighter than crude oil. Splitter capacity is included as atmospheric distillation units in U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.

However, the newest refinery with significant downstream unit capacity is Marathon’s facility in Garyville, Louisiana. That facility came online in 1977 with an initial atmospheric distillation unit capacity of 200,000 b/cd, and as of January 1, 2021, it had a capacity of 578,000 b/cd.

Whatever one may choose to believe with respect to the Ebeshter’s “long-term plan” for the the olam he created, there are frequently immediate adverse environmental effects of human actions ( or shorter-term cumulative effects) that pose risks of pikuach nefesh and/or material property loss that make it insanity to rely upon some abstract notion of “shomer pesayim Hashem” to inoculate them from those effects. Nor are we permitted to “dump our garbage” on the goyim and simply ignore the adverse consequences we impose on others.

On a serious note, the incidents of cheating among students in Yeshivos is relatively rare and isolated. The majority of these cases, as reported in the media, are among computer savy public school students who get access to exams which have been distributed to some schools prior to the test date. Even then its more difficult since the sequencing of questions is frequently changed and some entirely new items dropped in.
Over the longer term, these standardized exams are being used less frequently, especially those like the SAT, LSAT etc. which historically were a primary tool for college and grad school admissions. Other tests like the Regents exams which are designed to measure proficiency in certain subject areas for advancement or graduation will probably continue, but even those are being refocused in the name of “equity”.

Not clear why the concept of “extinction” of certain species is not compatible with a belief in a dynamic evolution of the world with all occurring in accordance to bio-physical principles promulgated by the Ebeshter. New species evolve over time as old ones go extinct. New technologies allow for reintroduction of biological clones of what are believed to be extinct species. Its not apikorsus to believe in some overall plan for these dynamics.
