Midwest, you’re saying that only Muslims kill, and not RCs?
I’m sorry, too many lost lives from illegal immigrants from our southern neighbor, and they are RCs.
Please keep in mind, that if someone from those countries operates a successful business, they won’t be moving to America. Only the ones with problems seek a new life, and “they’re bringing their problems with them (us) “, and, “they’re not sending us their best. ”

No, Midwest, I’m sorry (and I’m also a Midwestern, shpitz rachmonus), but they are *not* as clean as you make them out to be.
The young girl from Germany last week can prove it all. Was it worth her precious life?
How about all the drugs that our southern neighbors bring in? And the murders and rapes they commit?
Is it worth all those innocent lives, when applying rachmonus to those who take advantage, and bite the hand that feeds them?

i’m sorry, but no rachmanus, even for 1000’s of people, can equal the loss of EVEN ONE INNOCENT LIFE !
what you did in 1956 was much different. you were not b’chezkas rapists, murderers, drug dealers, etc – that are killing so many innocent americans, germans, french, and other people of the world

the only thing that’s inhumane is having those people come in illegally, and do terrible harm to the locals (rape, murder, etc.)
a guest CANNOT take over the host’s home – PERIOD !!!

part of the problem is that we’re forced into a Catch 22 situation.
One one hand we *have* to get married.
on the other hand, we *can’t* do it on our own (boys and girls meet freely on the street)
so we’re at the disposal of the shadchanim
not every husband/wife combo are a good shadchan (you have to know how to present things, how to “bend the truth”, etc. etc.) – so the REAL shadchan does need to take an active role

training girls not to get married?
the unfortunate results of that is that they could become “frei” rapidly.
it is easier for an older boy to remain frum. he can either stay in yeshiva longer, or even in working, he goes to minyan 3x daily, has night chavrusas, shiurim, whatever.
but for an older girl the opportunities are sadly limited

look, i’m a huge opponent of smoking, i’ve been around this world for over a half a century and never put a cig in my mouth (and IYH for the 2nd 1/2 century too 🙂 )
BUT, i must say this, that i believe the issur of v’nishmartem is only if the person will die that minute, like jumping off a cliff, or whatever
but if it’s just a disease that accrues in one’s body based on poor habits, it’s certainly not a good idea, but i don’t think a person is specifically “oiver” on v’nishmartem
ALSO, how can we justify the weekly intake of kugel, kishke, cholent, and the like (besides for the lack of regular exercise) ?

Any sefer that’s written but a mechalel shabbos, you can tell immediately by the connect that it’s not pure Torah, so hopefully none of them will ever wind up in the beis medrash

gavriel613, we have to get a bit more lomdish here.
if it’s shavuos, maybe the poster is in EY, where there’s no 2nd Day YT.
BUT, if he’s in EY, you have to prove that he’s indeed a Ben Eretz Yisroel, and not a Ben Chutz Laaretz who’s staying in EY, and is obligated in 2 Days, but is still posting.
so, if he’s posting on YT sheni, is there an issur of accepting his post? maybe we hold that electronic devices are d’rabonnon, and posting on YT2 is תרי דרבנן, which we can be meikel with

The last time the losing candidate received more popular votes than electoral was in 2000 when Al Gore lost to George W Bush.
Then Senator Hillary Clinton said, “We must do something about reforming this outdated system. ”
Guess what? In sixteen years she didn’t do a thing, and it came back to haunt her.
Exactly what (candidate) Trump was saying, that she’d be a terrible president.

I, as a computer programmer, take your comparison to a lawyer as a compliment. Maybe my boss will see this and give me a raise 🙂

Obviously all limud haTorah is supreme, but there are lower and higher levels, and the girl should be able to seek out what she wants.

if a girl wants to marry a boy who’s “into learning”, and you’ll ask her to give an example of what that might mean, she’ll probably answer something to the affect of “a bochur who learns deep gemora and halacha” (i would imagine the sems explain what real talmud torah is)
so, how disappointed will she be when she finds out her chosson is only capable of learning chumash/rashi & kitzur?
same thing (lehavdil) with working at a store vs. a higher level job

experience has it that they DO know what Shabbos is, and all the learning/mitzvos they had before are still with them

the best thing for them (and you too) is to keep on being friendly to them, take them out to ice cream, etc.

often times when ppl go otd r”l it’s because they feel isolated. if you show them the true colors of a friendship, they’ll go back to being frum simply by osmosis

here’s a quote from that article:

“With regards to the exact date and time of Rabbi’s Weil’s ‘petira’, Mr David Seldner contends that there are differences between the local council’s version and the universally accepted version. The date on the Korban Netanel’s tombstone is 7.5.1769, which was on a Sunday (30 Nisan 5529, Erev Rosh Chodesh Iyar). However, according to Jewish sources, he was niftar 15 Iyar 5529, which was the 22 May 1769 and was on a Monday. To compound matters further, it is a well-known historical fact that Erev Shabbos was the day he was niftar. In fact, the levaya was attended by many gentiles, who regarded him as their ‘wunder-rabiner’.”

torahis1: you’re completely missing the point what doc’s trying to say. Imagine your spouse (assuming you’re married) repeatedly telling you “I love you”, and then a minute later physically slapping you. Those love words are meaningless. Same thing with Hashem. If somesone says “G-d I love you, I’m a good Jew at heart, etc.”, and the next minute’s he’s driving on Shabbos – well you get the comparison.

Doc, you’re 100% (not 50%) correct. This “live and let live” smecks of American liberalism, which is very foreign to authentic Yiddishkeit.

dd, you don’t know the rules of gimatrias. Each word can count for 1 point, and the “kollel” (total sum) can be worth another point. (Note I say “can be”, since it’s not a MUST.) So therefore, add 2 points to each word of “pere adam”, and add 1 point for its “kollel”, and there you have it: 329=329

It has a lot to do with how the parents raised the kids in the USA, and their level of gashmiyus. Yes, if you’re the type who has 3 cars, a huge room in the house for each kid, Florida vacations every winter, etc. etc., then you’re truly running a HUGE risk. but if you’re “down to earth” you have a much better chance of success.

notpashut, it’s not poshut what you’re saying. It all depends on your line of work. Many if not most olim from North America come with white collared experience, and earn on the higher level of EY salaries. And of course, with the falling Dollar, it doesn’t help all that much to earn American salaries

And besides, I think you missed my point about Switzerland. What I was saying is that, granted, in EY you don’t earn as much as elsewhere, but you automatically get EMUNAH points while living here (or at least they’re easier to acquire here), and they’re “???? ?????” (as written in this week’s parsha Chayey Sarah).
