    Dear Ben,
I could not find the interview in text. I listened to the original interview. She is discussing that BLM does not need to be centrally controlled as a movement. That should dispel any notion of anarchy being their stated goal.

The theology of Marxism has nothing to do with revolutions, genocide, or even governments. The entire chiddush of Marx, was that the future is always more about the class struggle, than the will of the rulers. This has been thoroughly played out in the last 150 years. It could now be stated, that today’s political platforms are yesterdays class struggles. And today’s class struggles will be tomorrows platform. The scientific method has found that this applies throughout history without many exceptions. (Yes, I am totally ignoring the Leninist variation of Marxism. Every anybody does.)

    Dear Two,
There has not been a clear match in the wild for this virus. There are currently two theories as to what this means. 1) The virus was circulating in remote parts of China for years. 2) Maybe it did not originate in Yunnan Province. These are only guesses. It is still mainstream opinion that it emerged in humans in China sometime last year.

I was not going by the data from China. If you look at the whole region (South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, etc.) there is no comparison to the western hemisphere. There are other factors also. But there has been significant research that claims the strain in Europe was more contagious.

    Some science:

1)It is no longer absolutely certain that this virus originated in China.

2)This specific coronavirus was unknown in the Wuhan lab. It is unbelievable for it to have been genetically manipulated and not been discovered after this much scrutiny.

    3) China had a less infectious mutation than Europe.

    4) The data from Jan-Mar is lower because of less testing.

    5) There is a gigantic amount of information coded into each virus. Of all the data that was decoded to this point of history, none of it is political. Absolute zero.

    6) Viruses are part of our existence. Blame whomever you blame for your own existence.

Why do you say iyun is the ikkur? I never met someone who learned real iyun who thought iyun is the ikkur.

The purpose of learning in Brisk is primairily to bekoine seder kodhsim by roshei yeshiva who have devoted their lives to this seder,

If this was the primary reason to go to Brisk, there would only be a dozen bochurim. There are other roshei yeshiva who fit that billing more than the Soloveitchik. In reality, if Brisk would offer the regular mashechtos there would be more of a clamor to attend.

Not sure what you meant. Anyway I read it, it is not true. And the Rambam makes no mention of it there.
If you meant the Rambam quoted by the next poster, it has nothing to do with how he dresses.

    Dear Ben,

America’s moral climate does not depend on politics. I’m the moral sense America is a true democracy. Meaning, that the country’s legal morals are produced by the citizens moral judgements. Identify with an American political party because of moral issues, is not Torah. It is not even politics. It is falling for politicians using religious sentiment to bait voters. You can blind yourself and say it is just democrats, but the truth is America has a serious failing of religious leadership. Our culture has been left to rot because of religious neglect. Not political interference.

There, I answered my question for you. And Charlie’s question as well. Though it is according to my opinions and not yours. Your points are clear and understood. I disagree with them. And you do not show how this answers the questions put to you.

There is no obligation to put techeles on tzitzis. There are two types of tzitzis. Lavan with techeles. And only lavan. Just because one wears techeles on his tallis kotton, he is not obligated to wear it on his tallis gadol. This can be evidenced by the many talmidei chachamim who only wear techeles on their tallis katan.

Hi Ben, I missed you on this thread!

I am aware of all that you posted. And, could use it to source my previous posts. It seems like we have the same picture of Socialism, just we are stressing different parts. It would be two tedious to haggle over each line of the article above. So, let’s try something else. I see you ended with line about environmentalism etc. That gives me an idea.

Suppose an environmentalist comes to our town. He asks us to conserve and protect our natural resources. We are fine with that. But that would leave a lot of access to our natural resources at the mercy of the public. Naturally, the question arises as to who would supervise that the protected resources are maintained and not stolen for individual profit. He answers, “I am a socialist”. I take that to mean that, he believes that it is up to the people to defend what they have left unowned for the public, just like they protect their personal property. You take it as, he does not believe in the right of the individual to what has been put there by nature. Even at the expense of the resource itself. (It will be left unprotected.)

    Dear Ben,
Even if behind (no longer fully) closed doors Clinton is more perverse, if not for him being under the microscope as president’s are, it would be unknown to to the masses the true nature of the former Arkansas Governor. Compare that to Trump who acted in public in a boorish manner for decades. You are putting a lot of specifics into the truth to get it to be a denial of reality.

But you did not answer his question. Do you see a conflict between the Torah’s moral outlook, and supporting Trump? Also, you did not answer my question. If you identify with the Torah’s values, why would you move away from such a timeless ideal to support the fleeting knee-jerk morality of a political party?

    Dear Health,
I only have an old print with me. Too tedious. Same with online. IY”H next time I have a new print handy.

I do not see a reason to get into the believing the witness versus clarifying through witnesses, question. By mortals, a witness is by definition a bystander.

Similarly, a judge would have to hold office. Judgeship is also relevant as matter of prestige, like a king. One has to actually be actively recognized as a judge. It cannot be an ad hoc tribunal. If you could just hold spurious court, what prevents the defendant from presiding over the ‘judge’? If you would say that, yes, the defendant can simultaneously judge the ‘judge’, that is lawlessness. Which makes the whole idea of having a courts more redundant than this paragraph.

But even in your fantasy, at what point did the cop judge the case? While he was getting out of his car? Restraining him? The next day? Today? Did he talk to the clerk at any point?

The clerk told him it was not good, after he left the store. At the time of the transfer it was given intentionally.

    Dear By,
I do not have an answer if this treatment saves lives or not. Even if it does, there are medications that have been demonstrated to be effective in treating CoVid-19. Even if this one is more effective than those, (which seems to be unlikely) it would not be enough to halt the pandemic. Thousands of people are being infected daily around the globe. And a great many of them cannot be treated with this medication. [Those with blood deficiencies, a certain allergy, and alcholics. Additionally, the patient needs to be closely monitored for irregularities.] So, please stop with the “hundreds of thousands could have been saved” thinking.

    Dear Not,
This medication has been repeatedly brought back into the public discussion by Trump and some of his supporters. Nobody (as far as I know) has advocated for it to be discontinued. Medication does not work along democratic lines. It’s effectiveness is not based on public outcry. Why has there been such an outcry that a medicine is /could be such ‘a game changer’?

    Dear Simple,
You keep switching. You agree that yeshivishe clothing does not have any meaning before it is worn by yeshivaleit. Then it can not have an “inherent chashivus”. Then you switch right back to only an “expression of religiosity in wearing it”.

I disagree with that also. There is nothing being expressed by yeshivishe clothing. It just is that way. The fact that people perceive some symbolism in the black hat, does not change what it is. A dress hat. No more, no less.

To quote what I wrote above. #1880070 “I heard directly from one Rosh Yeshivah (He was as highly regarded as a yeshivshe daas torah as one can be.) that there is no reason to where a white shirt or a black hat. [Of course he expected his talmidim to wear them.]”

    Dear OCH,

It is possible that Dr. Zelenko had good results with his patients because of his care, and not the treatment per se. Therefore, it is unable to be replicated in trials. In your post, you require specific details that would be difficult to replicate in a hospital setting. This alone would force the medical community at large to search for more effective alternatives.

    Dear Som,
Major epidemics are not brought to heel through medication. There is no medication that would have saved thousands. Medicine does not solve ‘contagious’ or ‘overwhelmed’.

On this site, it is the supporters of Trump who kept bringing it back up. It would have been forgotten among all the other medical statements from the President. Nobody should think that his handling of the pandemic hinges on if he was right about one treatment.

    Dear Health,
No manipulation here. Rather, a two line biography may be helpful. Rav Yosef Babad wrote a comprehensive manuscript on the laws of the Noahides. He quotes it often in the Minchas Chinuch. It was never published, and is assumed to be lost.

I could try to look it up.

It is a safe assumption that a human witness must be a bystander, not a participant.

Do you think anyone could just appoint themselves a judge? (In real life. Not a coffee room judge.)

Direct theft, as in taking by grabbing without permission is (included in) gezel (for a goy). Why would counterfeit money be forbidden, without the added isssur of oinaah? (Etc.)

This was my response to that.

“There is no reason to make a case for an applied meaning here. It just clothing. Just wear it. In Yeshiva one is (At least should be.) identified by their studies. The fact that their clothing was constructive at some point, does not imply anything beyond that point.”

I am agreeing with your point. There are times when it has a positive effect. The same could be said for a raincoat. [It helps people stay dry in certain situations.] There is still no reason to wear a raincoat when it is not raining. But if that works, (Everyone else wears them or whatever reason.) then go right ahead and wear it. But it still is the same raincoat. It is a lie to say clothing is an expression of how religious one is. I did not think you meant it like that.

There are dozens of medications being tested for covid. Anybody has a good reason why only one is a public debate? Does anyone think that the (majority of) public supporters of a certain medicine that I cannot spell correctly, are being scientific about it?

PS I put in the parenthesis because it seems like one of our own posters [Health] discusses mostly the scientific angle. Additionally please consider, it is possible for one doctor to have done good work with a medication that cannot be replicated by others. Because it was more about the doctor than the treatment.

    Dear Simple,
Having a white shirt rule, does not mean the Rosh Yeshiva thinks it has a meaning. Some things just are the way they are, without any idea behind them.

There is no reason to make a case for an applied meaning here. It just clothing. Just wear it. In Yeshiva one is (At least should be.) identified by their studies. The fact that their clothing was constructive at some point, does not imply anything beyond that point.

It could very well be that Rav Miller zt”l intended the opposite. The levush has no meaning. Since people tend to look for meaning in random places, he made up some positive thinking that could go into our standard clothing. His point is that they should think more. Not just dress the part.
