    Ofcourse:

Why? Are wealthy people better at shidduchim? Or do you think they have more free time? Or do you just have a grudge against that entire segment of the community?

HaKatan: What’s your source for ” Rabbi JB Soloveichik created Modern Orthodoxy to institutionalize compromise of the Torah seemingly based on what he felt (against the gedolim of the time) was necessary for then-modern America, and on his mistaken assumption that traditional Orthodoxy would become a museum piece.”?

If the winning ticket was bought last Thursday afternoon in xyz store, and that is common knowledge, I’d venture that most of the people who bought tickets there that afternoon have already looked at their tickets. I don’t know the amount of tickets sold that afternoon, but if it was, say, 100, and 97 of the people checked and weren’t winners, your odds of winning are very high. So don’t sell.

What do you think of this?

Let the boys, who will be learning their whole lives, start dating at 18 (ben shmonah esrei lechuppah), and the girls, who will be supporting their large families and don’t have the obligation to marry early, get good serious graduate degrees and be earning decent parnassahs (maybe already owning homes) before they start dating. That would take them to late 20’s. Then the girls (sorry- women) would with Hashem’s help be able to pay their children’s tuitions, etc., and the boys could sit and learn with yishuv hadaas.

I’ll take a wild guess: They escorted the chatan to shul for his aufruf that morning and got a little overheated. So they loosened their ties, and opened their collars. Loosening the tie pulls up the ends (remember this is a guess), and if they loosened the knot that would make it look fuller.

guess number two: Someone in their crowd heard that a full Windsor knot is more formal. So they all decided to wear it. Now, by it’s nature this knot uses more material in the knot, so less is left for the ends. Hence, the short-looking ties. Also, a full windsor should have a spread collar shirt, and since the guys didn’t have one, they opened their collars to accomodate the wider knot. They also wore their loudest ties to show off their knots.

I might as well bring up the point that I think some people don’t hold by this kind of knot on Shabbos, considering it more of a permanent knot.

It looks to me like OP really would prefer to make the down payment a loan rather than a gift. That way you can get it back and do with the money as you wish. If you need security, why not look into putting a second mortgage on the property.

also, the date July 19th wasn’t any special date, so it’s really stretching it to already say it was 1/365 chance of Paul being born on that day ( it is 1/365, but it’s also 1/365 for any day he would be born, and 100% that he would be born on a day). Note that in any random group of 23 people, there’s a 50% chance that two people will share a birthday, a statistic that jumps to 99% with 57 people, and of course 100% with 366 people. see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem

Thanks for the advice SJS. They have a depot where we can bring our garbage but I’d still like curbside pickup as its a big chore to lug all the garbage to the depot. But I think I’ll call the mayor. We do have a large Jewish population (about 57% Jewish). But I asked our Ward Councillor, and he said it’s “impossible for both cost and logistical reasons”.

JayMatt19, I have a couple of tips: The lefty scissors make it easier to cut, they’re worth buying when he starts using scissors. If you’re not sure what hand he will be most comfortable catching with when playing baseball, try out both kinds of mitts before buying. And if there is any question about which hand he should lay tefillin on, ask a shailah early. There are people who are lefties for some things and righties for other things.

Of course, if he logged in on one clock and logged out on another, it would be theft, not owning false scales. Here, I’m only talking about owning false scales.

How could it come to theft? One could be talking on their portable phone and say, “oh, it’s four o’clock” without remembering that the clock is wrong. Or one could take a call in one room and walk around talking, then think they were on for forty-five minutes when it was only a half-hour.
