One does not discuss practical Halacha in an internet chat room

One discusses pratical halacha with his own LOR

    That marriage is exaggerted./

But its not uncommon for a woman to marry a man 10 years younger than her, Its also not uncommon for interacial marriages (Obama is the offspring of an interacial marriage as is Yankee Derek Jeter).

Catholics will Marry Protestants, Protestants will marry Athiests etc

Ive seen it on many blogs, and they take the most outrageous statements. You can google and find some. (They also do it to VIN as well)

As far as OP goes you dont go into someones house and spit at them, If you dont like their house, dont go it and you wont need to spit

Buddaism and the especially Dali Lama actually have a following in the united States and those people read very good english.

This website site actually has quite a large lurking population and people quote it all the time especially the negative comments.

How many Yeshivas in the US deny education to kids IN THE USA because the parents “Arent Frum enough”

So what Gadol says its OK to dispage Buddaism in a public forum that will likely backfire and make jews look bad.

It does not make a K’H by disparaging someone else belifs in a public forum. You dont have to like other belifs and you can strongly disagree with them, but dont post them on a public forum, say so at your private table

No because the dating pool is much larger.

Think about how many Chasredim (And MO) are in the dating pool at a time and the number is small and add in the fact that who you can date is an even smaller number (IE Satmar wont date MO) so a small difference seems alot larger.

In he regular world you can just increase your dating pool by dating people out of your community, ie interaccial dating, Interreligious dating, Different social strata dating etc

For the record YU is officially non-sectarian (As are many Jesuit colleges in NY like Fordham and St Johns) , which it needs to be in order to get state and federal funding.

If you are officially non-sectarian you must obey New York laws on descrimination , and there is a law saying you cannot discrimate against “teoviah” people. There is no law saying you cannot descrimate against adulters

Christianity is not monolithic. Much of Halacha on it is based on Catholicsm which is because jews lived mostly in catholic countries

However the US is a Protestant country (regarless who lives in NY area which is mostly catholic) and many Protestants have different beliefs especially the larger ones in the US Southern Baptist and Methodist. They do not have icons. Some dont even believe in the trinity (Unitarinism)

Someone once asked a Rav what was the Zmanim for the land of the Midnight sun, The Rav told him the halacha was for him to not be there and to leave ASAP.

If you are so concerned about dealing with Buddists, dont be in that country. Leave ASAP then you wont have this problem.

I am sure most seminaries do not send personal throught the world except to places where they have alot of applicants (Like NY, Miami, or LA)

There is no excuse for seminaries to charge more than Columbia and FYI Columbia is on the high side for admission fees, CUNY is $65

I went to a public university and never had any classes on Shabbos either and since in college few people want to go on Friday, there were rarely any classes on Fridays after 12:15

The school was closed for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and you just took off for Succos, (Pesach might or might not be spring break) and Shavouth

You never know 100% off the bat you are not marrying that person, who knows you might get to know the person and like them

And BTW the reverse holds true, you might think a certain person is perfect for you and cant wait to go out with them and find out they are NOT for you

We actually dont know how long Methusaleh lived, The Chumash says 969 years, but whats a year? There is no indication that a year for Methuselah is 365 Days 5 Hours and 49 Mins. Which is what it is today.

Isn’t the best answer to not use a telephone (which, after all, can connect with anyone in the world, no matter how much you would rather not talk to them), and rely on sending letters (or even better, walking over a talking to people). People got around reasonably well for years without using electronic communications. It can be said with certainty, that neither the Vilna Gaon nor the Baal Shem Tov ever used a telephone or any other device capable of being connected to the internet.

I doubt the Gra learned by an electric light and learned by candlight. People got around reasonably well without electricity and wrote great seforim. If the Gra, Rashi, Baalei Tosafot learned without lights, so can you

Public advocate is a relic from the Old Board of Estimate which ran the city until the 1980’s when it was delcared unconstituional. It was called the president of the City Council and was quite powerful

Today the job is basically a position if something happens to the Mayor , the public advocate is next in line.

There are proposals to eliminate the position

Beis Yaakov rents its space for bas Mitzvahs.

I dont think anyone here is advocating a huge over the top party

Ive seen the gammut of Bas Mitzvahs from nothing to Home partys to Beis Yaakov lunchroom , Shul/School Simcha rooms to halls to over the top with a DJ and dancers and fancy food.

Nothing wrong with giving your daughter a special day, She will remember it for her whole lifetime.

The only argument I have against a home party is you have to setup cook serve and clean for all the guests. You cant enjoy the party and the nachas. Let someone else do the setup cooking serving and cleaning

There is no Halacha against having a Bas Mitzvah, Maybe in your community its looked down upon and thats a Hashkafa issue.

There is nothing wrong HALACHILY with a party as long its done properly (Like no mixed dancing) and nothing untzniut. I know plenty of very Hemish people who had one for the daughters and not in the house either.

If you cant afford a Bas Mitzvah dont have one.

And BTW I also think if you cant afford a wedding, have a much smaller one. There is no need for $50,000 weddings

you can google it, Association Football and Rugby became popular in the UK about the same time in the 1850’s and Soccer became shorthand slang for Assocation Football.

Funny the British dont want to admit that Soccer is a British word and not an american word

As charedim take over the regins of some municipalities in the US (and Israel), you have to realize you are the leaders of everyone not just those in your community.

That means dealing with issues that involve everyone like Homlessness, Public Schools, Police , Fire , Libaries, Street repair (Imagine a huge pothole or sinkhole in the main thoroughfare that needs to be fixed now or presents a great danger). Snow plows etc

Either accept these reposibilies or dont hold these offices. You cannot kick the issues to other communities who might not want these issues either

Where does the “dumping of chumros” stop?

Chumra mongering is a very recent innovation and I know many in the charedi world would love to say DAYENU.

It started recently and it can be stopped. It can be as dangerous to yiddishkeite as mixed seating. Remember we are not to veer from the torah either the left or the RIGHT

In previous generations alot less was known and many things with simple explainations were labels Ayin-Horah , Shaedim or Dybukks.

for example Mental Illness sufferers were labeled as a Dybukk

People who were sick were labeled as having the Ayin Horah and told to do segulashs when simple Anti-Biotics can cure the person of the infection
