Surprisingly I rarely get censored or edited, I would have thought I would be censored more, but I am not. . The mods dont censor as much as people think they do. The only posts I ever get censored are ones where I suspected before I posted them that were a bit iffy.

Posting here you need to think a bit before you post and if you think a bit and dont rush to post, and post from your head and not your heart, you should be OK

I do belive the torah is the proper roadmap, However When travelling between 2 places there usually is more than one way to go and each way might have reasons not to take that direction

One way might have more traffic and another might have no highways and a longer travel time

I think the problem here people are told there is only one way to get from point A to point B and all other routes are wrong. If the direction you are given does not work for you for whatever reason and you are told no other routes are valid, You just decide not to make the trip and give up.

And Unless we stop telling people There is only one route from Point A to Point B, nothing will change and for some people that might require a whole new route (New Routes arent wrong, just different and serves differnt needs)

As a side note, Its not clear to me how old the girl is in question, However it does seem to me she is at least 18 and probsably older. She can make her own decisions and the parents have less control anyway

Gambling is legal in most parts of the country and Vegas realized this. There was no need to go to Vegas to gamble when you could gamble in Atlantic City, New Orleans or even NYC

They realized if they were going to survive they would have to expand the business and offer things like shopping and shows. Atlantic City did not see this and the main focus was gambling and AC is dying while Vegas is thriving. Only about 60% of the income in Vegas is from Gambling

And finally there is a KOLLEL in Las Vegas from Chofetz Chaim, I am sure their rabbanim felt differently that you did and they are big talmidi Chachamin there

There is a Casino in NYC, Should we all move out of NYC.

Atlantic City is not far from lakewood and Casino Gambling is coming to the Catskills right near the Bungalos. Should jews stop going to the Catskills?

They sell Lottery Tickets in Meah Shearim with frum Lottery tickets tickets at these Kiosks that sell that lottery tickets

perhaps jews should move out of jerusalem as well

Why would it rub you the wrong way? If someone doesnt want to be Charedi, why should they be forced to do so. They are not “doing Kiruv” but rather offering people who are miserable in the charedi lifestyle a way out rather than totally leave

I have seen him directly blog that he was not allowed to see his kids and he posted an entire pictorial of him crashing his daughters wedding (Which I think was very wrong).

He also blogged about his first kids wedding (Not sure if its a male or female) and how he wasnt even allowed to go and only got clandestine pictures

He doesnt seem like a very nice person, but that doesnt mean he should have been cut off

And if you suspected there would have been a negative reaction, for sure not you should have said nothing.

Project Makom is an attempt to keep some of the charedim in the fold (Its more complicated for many)

I think many of the Anti-Kiruv-nicks have been so hurt by some in the frum comminity that they are so angry a them , Its a tough battle. The Main propnent who has written a book, was expelled from new square and is not allowed to see his kids. He harbors much bitterness and even crashed his daughters wedding

    DY is correct

Project Makom was founded by a frum woman who runs a kiruv organization who was making Slick videos explaining orhtodox judasism to many in a way more palatable to the non-frum

Many people would comment on her videos and give their “criticism” however most of the criticism was just trolling, but one woman was a former chassidic woman who said, she left being chassidic because she couldnt take that lifesyle and tried to become a modern orthodox . However she could not integrate into the more modern community as they were not so nice to her and she totally left. The woman who runs Project Makom then heard about some similar stories and got some seed money to help those from chassidic backroounds who wanted to be frum, but just couldnt live the life as a chassid.

    many Chaddish women dont drive.

But I think you missed the point, there are things that are really takanas not Halachas and they do drive people away. We are not supposed to veer from the torah from the left or the right. People have no problem not veering to the left, but the veer to the right all the time and sometimes too much

Some of the people who go OTD , go because they have no other option. They want to be relgious, but they dont want to be Charedi. for whatever reason. The men dont want to wear Peyos and a Beard and maybe the women want to drive.

By basically saying that more moderate versions of orthodoxt like MO are basically reform, you are totally chasing these people away.

One can be a frum man without Peyos and one could be a frum woman who drives , but according to some this is not the case and a slipperly slope ensures and they totally leave.

There was really nothing wrong with the survey. Unfortunatly many are unwilling to accept the survey or its results.

Of course there are flaws, any survey has flaws. Its impossible to make a perfect survey.

You cant make a survey with the following question either, Its just as flawed

    Q) Why did you leave Yiddishkeit?

    1) I’m Lazy

    2) I was abused

    3) I want freedom

you will also get a flawed result

I had nothing to do with the survey. If you dont like the survery. You are free to go through the trouble and make your own survey.

Its easy to critize the survey. Its much harder to correct it of any flaws you perceive it as having

it has to do with logic. Since it’s impossible to prove that G-d doesn’t exist, some say that it’s impossible for someone to “know 100%” that G-d doesn’t exist (kaviyachol).

We have Faith not logic. You have to prove a positive, not a negative. “Prove to me I wont win the Lottery tommorrow” . You cant prove such a thing. However I can prove to you that I won the lottery, if I show you a winning lottery ticket

We have emunah in hashem existance

I really dont want to defend the atheists position, I am only giving what their position is from people who have told me they are one

That’s why some say it’s impossible to be an atheist – because how can you be sure that G-d doesn’t exist?

I said generally against relgion. its the Atheists who want to remove in god we trust from the bills. Its the Atheists who run Pork Festive meals on Yom Kippur.

Agnostics want to eat at home on Yom Kippur and go to the mall on Shabbos, not run a shuttle bus to the mall on shabbos.

Most people are not Atheists, they are Agnostic. There is a big difference

Atheists are generally anti-religion. Agnostics are just non-religious.

Before the Enligtenment (General enlightenment not Haskallah) it was illegal in Europe not to be religious. You had to belong to a religion. However In France the church was seen as corrupt and when Napoleon conqured Europe and you were no longer forced to worship in a religion as Napoleon conqured Europe. And unfortunatly not all Rabbanim of local towns were so on the up and up either and people left because of those who were not up to the job

The reason its a larger number than before is because there are more frum jews than before and another reason is that issues that might have been issues swept under the carpet and people lived with, they are not willing to live with anymore (IE abuse)

OTD is not 20 years old, jews have been going OTD since the days of the Golden Calf.

It did reach its heyday in the 19th and 20th Century due to external factors in the greater world (The Haskallah was just basically piggybacking on them). That 80-85% of jews are not religious today is a testament to that factor

There isnt much difference today than there was 150 years ago except because of technology we are more aware of things outside our normal sphere of knowledge. There is a video from 1933 from Munkatch of various scenes from Munkatch and one of them is the Munkatcher Rebbe giving Tochacha to american jews for not keeping Shabbos. You can see the video on Youtube.

If you think most are coming back, you are probably only fooling yourself. Most do not come back and unless we are willing to admit to ourselves why the left in the first place , not much will change

Lots of frum jews go to the National Parks (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite) for example, and there arent minyans and Kosher food there.

Its only very recently that you could go to most major European Cities and go to a Kosher Restaurant

Ever hear of the term “Sunday Drive”

They make plenty of vehicles that are fun to Drive (A 15 year old Mini-van with 50 dents is not fun to drive)

They wouldnt make Mustangs ,Camaros , or Jeeps if people didnt want cars that are fun to drive
