We had a vocabulary test and one of the students claimed he didnt know how to spell a certain word. The teacher then gave him a dictionary (ON A VOCABULARY TEST) in order to help him spell the word (since of course she didnt know how to spell it?. The whole class then began to ask to borrow the dictionary.

If there is a concept of tznius for men with regards to clothing, then what should a man do regarding swimming with regards to bathing suits and keeping a shirt on or not?

I once saw a guy in davening who was sporting peyos behind the ear, big black rimmed glasses, shorts and a t-shirt with tzizis over them and a black hat and black jacket-little strange, no?

I just saw a shpitz yeshivish guy check out himself in a mirror for a long time, especially fixing his hair. Isnt that a little strange?

When u think its gross to eat from the hefker table.

When you actually go to a barber for a haircut instead of just getting a cheap buzzcut from another bochur.

I think that wearing a hat for Davening or Shabbos is important and can be used as a statement for oneself that he is looking to grow in his observance and the level of his observance. It does not necessarily achieve a spiritual growth, but can help create this statement.

“No One mourns the wicked”-why is there so much spiritual growth from just a hat-soemthing which just affects your outer appearance? I see the maalah to wearing one-but what spiritual growth is there?

I am thinking of getting one-need to find a store like in the Five Towns-black hat (not dtraw :)) and just need a hat for Shabbos and Yom Tov.

Many people keep their sideburns down to the bottom of the ear lobe which seems like the more machmir shitah-would this be the same length as if he grew his peyos behind his ear?

    in reply to: Peyos #874112

Interesting-nothing Halachik-just cause they dont want to stand out amongst the goyim with hair in front of their ears instead of behind what is the length of the peyos behind the ear-is it up to the cheek-bone?

So why do people have peyos behind their ears-is this just a style or Halacha?

If there were special privileges for Jews and we would be allowed to keep Halacha and Torah and mitzvos, then it would make things easier if we had no choice. Of course, none of us actually want to go to the army, unless we are forced to do so. Maybe I would move to Israel (if the Tal Law is reinstated).

Is the yeshiva he is going to in Yerushaliam-if so, then he can have a “base” in yeshiva and get meals by friends. If he is wearing white shirts and pants all day, then he usually doesnt change so much-sometime even coasts from week to week without showering 🙂 Name tages can only help to make sure things dont get lost Everyone adjusts to yeshiva and sem life

Fashion for a guy at least is the “shpitz”-pointy shoes, thick big black glasses, tight shirt and pants, hair spiked up in front, black hat put on the right way. Thats Yeshivish fashion.

Well, it is not Assur for a women to look at a man in his bathing suit. It is not proper though for her to be looking and for a man to be in front of her in such a state. The only tzniyus issue for a man is the makom ervah. If one is wearing something tight over the makom ervah, then there is for sure an issue for both parties. If it is baggy, it is not an issue but it is just not proper. It is like he is not properly clothed.
