On Purim we say ארור המן ברוך מרדכי on Chanukah there is argument between Beis Shamai and Beis Hilel how to light. Is the destructiion of our enemies or salvation of us greater? The gematria for Purim is the same, but ארור is greater than המן indicating that he diminished, whereas ברוך is less than מרדכי indicating he was elevated. The Beis Hilel emphasizes the elevation of the spirit whereas the Beis Shamai the dimishment of the phisical and material. The Maasei Hashem says on the Haggadah of Pesach on והקב’ה מצילנו מידם and HKBH saves us from their hands, saving is greater than destruction. Saving proofs that Hashem loves us, but their destruction does not prove we are good only that they are bad.

The dreidel has גשנה – נס גדול היה שם gematria משיח what about EY? נגהפ – נס גדול היה פה gematria צמח.
Purim is Kabolas Hatorah for Torah Shebeksav (GUF) where as Chanukah according to the Yaaros Devash and Chasam Sofer is Kabolas Hatorah onTorah Shebaal Peh (Neshomo). The tuma was a tuma derabonon which through the neis was reinforced.

It is the question of the Taz why on Purim the emphasis is on mishteh vesimdha whereas Chanukah lehodos ulehalel? He explains, that on Purim, Haman wanted to destroy their body but Chanukah, the yevonim wanted to destroy their soul. It says in Pirkei Avos, wild animal comes to the world for swearing falsely. Asks the Binah Leitim, why it says comes to the world? He answers that the person not speaking properly, himself, turns into a wild animal, so it is important for us on Chanukah to cleanse ourselves spiritually by cleansing our mouths.

I think the Ran was an add on with the Rif. Many gemoras don’t have it. The Rosh is earlier in time than the Maharsha. The Maharsha is primarily on Tosfas or Agodas of the gemora complicated to learn because of its conciseness. The other meforshim came later in time. When it comes to halacha, when two of the three, Rif, Rambam and Rosh agree, Rav Yosef Karo, the mechaber of the Shulchan Aruch, paskens like them. The Rosh escaped to Spain, so the sefardim accept him also.

When it comes to bechira will say what Reb Moshe ztz’l said in his teshuva when it comes to raising children, rewording it, it should be half perspiration and half inspiration. Put in your effort and daven that it should bear fruits. So our bracha is that after you put in your effort in your desire, it should bear fruits.

To have a happy marriage, think of the mezuza. Some say to place it vertically and others say to place it horizantilly, so we make a compromise and place it slented. Similarly, marriage will need much compromise. It is called nisuyin meaning elevate. To have a happy marriage, you must place each other on a pedestal.

The custom to relight candles in the shul in the morning according to the Sheorim Metzuyonim Behalacha on the Kitzur is based on the above Rambam. Even though it might not be seen in the light, but it is done for zecher lemikdash and not for parsumei nisei, I explained.

You should use new wicks for hiddur mitzva. In the Beis Hamikdash there was a mitzva of hatovas neros to replace the old wicks. According to the Rambam, Hilchas Temidim Umusofim 3,12 if it went out, ithey would clean it, replace it and relight it in the morning, but the Rashba holds that they would relight it in the afternoon.
