We just learned this year that if you put dryer sheets around the perimeter of the sukkah on the floor, the bugs will disappear from the sukkah. We tried it and it worked, just do it next year before you get bitten like crazy from the mosquitoes.

I don’t have an English name and my name has the “cha” sound in it and yeah some people can’t pronounce it and it takes until they say my last name when I turn around because they come up with weird sounds instead of it. Overall though, a lot of people nowadays can say “cha”, you’d be surprised.

Another option is to give them a middle name that’s easy to pronounce. Then the kid can just be call me (fill in the blank) instead, it’s easier.

Thanks a million everyone for answering so quickly!!

pascha bchochma – I should’ve figured that out earlier lol thanks! Does coffee qualify as a hot liquid because I can’t drink tea or hot milk?

Lia – we had zinc lozenges in our house, but do any come that you can swallow?

Sacrilege & oomis1105 – I know this is a random question but what does Cold-Eeze taste like? And oomis1105 there must be something wrong with my mother’s chicken soup as I had it every night of yom tov and still got a cold 😉 Guess I got to wait till Shabbos again. 🙂 Does tradition soup chicken flavored work as well? 😉

yankdownunder – How long do you have to keep your head under the

towel/inhaling the smells? And what should I do with all those herbs? Eat them in food or put them in hot water and inhale them?

The Best Bubby – Can I put the Propoylis Extract 20 in water or grape juice instead? And can you make me some chicken soup since my Bubby is MIA right now 😉

thanks amichai for that advice but I can’t do it anymore. I took it when I had swine flu last year and now will throw it up if I do it again (I’ve tried). The honey on the challah I almost couldn’t do.

Thanks a million for everyone’s answers!!!!!

Wow! First of all this thread is about Shidduchim for kids of BT’s not marrying BT’s themselves.

Second of all if you don’t want to marry a BT, fine don’t but BT’s are not 2nd rate citizens.

3rd of all if you anyways are talking about all the hardships that marrying a BT involves, why don’t you actually ask someone who is married to one and is involved themselves. And if you don’t want to live that kind of life, then don’t, no one is forcing you.

4th – for those who said BT kids go off more than FFB kids. I would think that is not true. Of all the kids I know that are OTD, they come from FFB homes and I don’t know one kid from a BT who is off. If a kid has a question about Torah and G-d and anything, the BT asked it and knows the answers so can give them to their kids. Whereas in a FFB home the parents for the most part probably don’t know the answers and yell at the kid for asking.

And I agree with emoticon613 – some of those comments that people made are hurtful. Their is no point in saying them.

My friend just told me about the spray (they sell it in Sephora) that keeps your make-up on. Does it really work? Can you re-apply it after the 20 hrs. and it’ll still work? Are you able to put it on, on Shabbos or Yom Tov.

But yeah, by the third day, most people don’t look their best in terms on make-up and hair.

I just want to say that just because something is called one thing, that doesn’t mean it is. Just because a school is called a Bais Yaakov, and I’m not even talking about the girls, but it doesn’t mean that they run the school like a Bais Yaakov.

Don’t believe everything the administration says, they want you to go to their school and can be two faced liars. Talk to girls but don’t ask them in general how the school is, ask them if they would switch out, about a regular school day, how they like the principal.

    Be very careful!!!!!

everyone is always on their blackberrys 24/6, its a good thing shabbos exists.

Sadly to say a lot of people are so addicted to texting that they will text their friends on Shabbos. 🙁

better off…. communacation has become alot easier and more efficient and you talk to more people than you would if you didnt!

Yeah that’s true but on the flip side most people don’t have real relationships and don’t communicate because it’s so much easier to text someone than to talk to them…then you don’t have any awkward pauses in your conversations.

Yes it also strengthens relationships, but that’s only if you use it properly.

In my shul they auction off all the aliyos on Yom Tov but I just heard that except for Psicha Neila, most people buy aliyos for someone else.

If its going to cause discomfort or its not safe than you don’t have to. Also, since you are supposed to live in your sukkah but a woman has no obligation to, and normally in a home the husband sleeps in the same room as his wife then he doesn’t have to sleep in the sukkah.

My mother bought big foam balls and small flowers and covered the balls in flowers, then took a ribbon and hung it up from the ‘ceiling’. They look very nice.

We also cover the bottom half of the walls with fabric and then drape some more from beam to beam which looks really nice too.

I tried this by Rosh Hashana and it really worked- after each seuda i took a walk around the block, as it gave a chance for the food to digest before i went to sleep. I felt lighter the whole Yom Tov, not that nauseas and heavy feeling i had s/t had.

For some odd reason, every Shabbos and Yom Tov I have to walk. I go crazy sitting inside all day, and this never happens during the week. I guess that’s why I never feel nauseas or overstuffed on Yom Tov. 🙂

Try making more poultry for main dishes instead or roast and meat. It’s lighter for sure but I don’t know if healthy.

    Portion control always helps. 🙂

I was walking home with a friend on Motzai Yom Kippur and we heard a group of Hispanic boys/men coming up towards us. We quickly crossed the street, but were still nervous. What comforted us was the fact that two Jewish men were standing outside talking.

My sister was walking home from a friend’s house and it was dark outside. She was being bothered by a group of non-Jewish teenagers. But when she told us the story she said she saw a Jewish boy walking and felt safer.

That I think is how to help everyone get along. Instead of judging them because they are different from you think that if you were scared/nervous in a not such great place and you saw them would you feel comforted that they would help you.

And visa versa, if you saw this Jew in need of help (and I’m not talking financial or whatever. You are just walking by and see a problem) would you go help? Would it matter if he was wearing a streimal, black hat or baseball cap? I don’t think so.

And remember, Hitler yimach Sh’mo, didn’t care if you were Chasidish, Litvish, MO… and neither do any non-Jew, they just see us as Jews with no labels. We should also see everyone as Jews.

I think girls dress nice to be noticed by other women and then they’ll add a few touch ups for the men.

When they buy something new it’s like I have to show (insert girls name) she’ll be sooooo jealous!!! or something to that affect. When they buy it, for the most part, they first think what will other girls think of me and then will men be attracted. But I don’t think men are the first thing on their mind while they dress or when they buy something.

Be realistic. If someone is 200 lbs overweight don’t expect that Barbie look alikes will want to go out with you.

Be true to yourself. Think you want to marry this type of girl. Would that type of girl want to marry me? If the answer is no then what do you have to do to change yourself so you can make the answer yes.

Don’t focus on superficial stuff. It could change any day. Focus on middos and personality.

myfriend – tznius should not be a litmus test for if the girl is a good girl or not. I know plenty of really great girls but tznius is their nisayon. You can’t judge a girl based on her mode of dress.

I agree with minyan gal. When I try something on in the store, I don’t think what will others say. I buy it if I like it and I think for myself if I look good in it.

If people are dressing for what other people think, maybe their should be mass self-confidence boosts. Nothing to do with tznius just self confidence and once someone feels good about themselves they wont have to wear non-tznius clothing.

These are all very good ideas for the most part but I think people should clarify what is halacha and what is extra. All you have to do is cover A, B, C, and D and all the rest is chumros.

If instead of someone coming over to you and embarrassing you in public for wearing a short skirt or whatever, focus on the positive on what the girl is wearing and don’t mention the negative. Like, where do you find such tasteful clothing that is tsnius too?… If you build her up a little, she will want to live up to that standard.

If there were some tznius women who were with it and stylish so you had someone to look up to. So that it isn’t that being tznius is equated with frumpy.

As for the question as to why BY graduates and students don’t dress tzniusly, there could be a million different reasons. A few I could think of off bat is:

    A) the BY just teaches stuff as rules, do this and do that and none of the beauty, so why should I?

    B) A teacher or someone gives a speech that you’re gonna burn anyway and you aren’t frum if you are lenient in something. So their attitude is why do I have to do all this, I’m already gonna burn. (this does happen btw)

    C) There are so many other areas that I have to work on, tznius I’ll do last.

What inspires me and makes the biggest impression on me is when people tell me what the outside world thinks of you when they see you dressed tzniusly. How special they think you are…

I didn’t read any of the other ideas but A) maybe fine yourself or have someone close to you fine you. Every time you bite your nails you have to pay yourself/them a big amount (not like a quarter cuz that wont help but like $10.00.) You might think twice about biting after that.

B)Cut your nails often so there is nothing to bite.

    Good Luck!!!

cherrybim – You do that and let me tell you, you will have a lot of girls going OTD. I know, I for one would go OTD in the tznius sense in a minute if some random people think they can tell me what to wear.

Speeches for the most part don’t work because:

a)they speak way to much about it so no one listens after a while.

b)people feels like oh that’s just a chumrah and I hold differently.

c)everyone makes sensitivities assur. Be clear when its Halacha and when its not. A red shirt can be permissible on one person, and be totally tznuisdik.

It’s also hard to find skirts long enough. Many frum stores do NOT sell tznius clothing but since it’s from (insert Jewish store) it’s ok.

There’s a problem out there, but I don’t think pressuring people is the answer or speeches either.

Don’t necessarily take them as fact but take precautions. You know like when someone tells you that someone else is going to harm you, you can’t believe them but you should be careful.

so u never listen to their warning and when they say there will be a 3 foot snow storm, dont believe them

My take on this is if they say there will be one during school don’t believe but if its coming over the weekend or when there is no school, it’s true. 🙂

I don’t think it’s necessary, per se. But that being said, if you are able to take it, why not? If you have to pay extra for them I could see why not but if you don’t, then the class is geared towards the AP test and if you don’t pass, at least you don’t have to take a final for that class for your report card 😉

Most people are forgetting that these prices are JUST tution costs. In my siblings school tution is around $4000 a kid, plus building fees and book fees (which the books are 20 years old) and the dinner, and you have to get X amount of people to buy raffle tickets and you have to spend at least $1000 on school cash, plus all the trips and activities and school shabbatons which are mandatory and at least $100 a kid…

    Everything adds up!!!

Also, Helpful, you wrote All of these sunset, nature, etc. photos, can be downloaded as stock photos. What is the benefit of taking them yourself?

I was thinking about it and it’s the natural tendency of people that when they see something gorgeous (or hear something good) to want to share it with others. So when you see a stunning sunset, you automatically want to capture it and show it to others, or even to just look at later.
