It is well known in anthropological circles that Aschkenaz was the Hebrew word for Germany. Aschkenazic jews in fact, hardly migrated to turkey at all. Turkish jews never spoke yiddish. yiddish is well known to be a corruption of the german language. The yiddish language itself mutated into various dialects as jews migrated from germany to Poland, Russia, and the other European countries.
The term Aschkenaz is hebrew for germany. The jews of turkey are sefardic heritage.

I met my wife on Rosh Chodesh Av. I asked the mashgiach of Torah Vodas, Rav Wolfson what to do. He said if she doesn’t understand, then she isn’t what you’re looking for. Of course she understood. And we got engaged on Rosh Chodesh Elul.

The term Gaon is being used very loosely as a title. The minimum knowledge should be all Shas with all Rashi, Tosefos, Maharsho. All Chumash with Rashi ans Ramban. All Rambam, all Tur and all Shulchan Orech. Thoroughly.

each chasidic sect has different ways of referring to previous rebbes. Ger for example called the Imrei Emes, the rebbe of Poland, frierdeker rebbe until the Bais Yisroel was niftar. In Satmar Rabbeni Yoel is just called the rebbe zl or rabbeini. There isn’t a set name anywhere. Its just something that pops up.

the original concept of a college education, liberal arts and sciences, was to give the individual a well rounded education as a member of a human society. it was not meant as a stepping point to a job or profession. that was in another educational setting, such as law school or medical school.

according to the chasam sofer, moshiach won’t be an obvious living tzadik but rather a dark horse type. he says that the geula is supposed to be like yetzias mitzrayim. moshe wasn’t the obvious person. after all, he was an egyptian prince, king of ethiopia and married a shiksa. thats moshiach? so keep your eyes open.

Telz yeshiva in america was founded by rav eliyahu meir bloch ztzl, son of the telz yeshiva rosh hayeshiva maharil bloch ztzl. together with his brother in law rav chaim katz ztzl. it was founded according to the spirit and style of the lituanian telz yeshiva and is still operated in that path. telz chicago and riverdale are off shoots, also operated along the original telzer deredch by telzer talmidim of rav bloch and rav katz. although cleveland isnt as big as it used to be, chicago and riverdale are thriving yeshivos, among the best in america. those are facts. anybody cotradict that is basically complete not in the know of what telz is.

in reply to: How can a woman get schar for learning Torah? #1196070
    theprof1
    Participant

In the time of the gemorah, women in general, in all socities, were considered second class. However, the Zohar says that women have less mitzvos because they are on a higher spiritual level than men. Although the Torah is eternal and Torah life is the way we go, times and cultures change. In the early 20th century, girls were not happy with their place in society. They felt empty. This caused terrible departures from yiddishkeit. Sarah Schnierer saw this and recognized the need for educating Jewish girls in Torah so that they would fel meaningful and that yiddishkeit would be relevant in their lives. All the Torah gedolim of Poland and Lithuania and Germany agreed with her and gave her strong support, especially the Gerrer Rebbe ztzl. Result: we have generations of Torah true girls becoming strong supporters of Torah learning. Yes, women can have their own schar for learning Torah.

The Satmar rebbe felt that the gemora and medrash say that the jewish nation made 3 oaths after the beis hamikdosh was destroyed. one ws that there wouldnt be a medina in eretz yisroel. the problem was that the early zionists were actually apikorsim, like hertzl. they were purely cultural nationalists. that’s why the european gedolim instituted an agudas yisroel. to work on behalf of frum jws and to counteract seculr zionism.
